Yeah. MLS reached out to them about being an expansion team a year before NYCFC, and they rejected because they didn't like the prospect of a salary cap.
Want to guess how that's worked out? I guess their fans are still mad so they're re-directing anger |

The NASL is run by a joke anyway. Their commissioner said they "aren't a 2nd division" and that they will "rival MLS"
Yet the Atlanta Silverbacks average 4,000 fans and Atlanta's MLS expansion team got 12,000 season ticket sales in two weeks.
Not to mention their biggest markets Minnesota, Indianapolis, and San Antonio are actively trying to join MLS.
The Cosmos could have been NYCFC, but instead they're playing at Hofsta University, averaging 5,000 fans a game

| i think it would be cool if they set up a relegation/promotion system between the two leagues, but that would take a lot out of the american side of the product. plus the talent gap is massive |

Promotion/relegation in the U.S. is the day the sport dies Plus when you have inept commissioner's like the NASL's, that isn't a possibility
Plus the USL Pro is doing fine in it's partnership to field MLS reserve teams (see LA Galaxy II) and take players on loan |

Because Columbus Crew and FC Dallas fans are going to stop showing up when their team gets relegated to the NASL.
Also, what happens when NYCFC gets relegated and Carolina Railhawks FC with 3,000 fans gets promoted?
The league would lose massive amounts of $$$ in TV markets because they now no longer have their biggest audience.
Now Carolina with 3,000 fans are in the league.
Also, with a few exceptions, MLS teams are the only ones who actually have stadiums, and state of the art stadiums at that.

| well wouldn't an average carolinian (?) become interested in the league and the sport if he hears that his local team is now a massive deal? |

@tato
Regardless, the league still loses millions because they no longer have NYC as a TV market, and now ESPN, Fox, and Univision wants to cut it's ties with them because they will lose money. You feel me?
And even if Carolinian's now become interested in their team, their stadium still has a capacity of 10,000. |

| Also, not only does Carolina not have a viable stadium, another issue comes up with their owners. They're not rich enough to spend the money to be able to compete in MLS. Parity is not a thing anymore now that you have promotion and relegation so you have to spend to compete now. Carolina likely goes bankrupt trying. |

| So what are we going to do about the poor owners and small stadiums with football lines on the field that have a capacity of 5,000? |

Exactly. Those unanswered questions is why promotion/relegation is not viable in the United States/Canada. At least not for a very long time.
It would be interesting to see but it's not very realistic. |

Well first off, the manager of that team should be hired to take charge of a top club for climbing the ranks with such a small budget.
Sure, it's not fair that they aren't being allowed in La Liga, but isn't the league already in millions of dollars of debt? A club in a town of 27,000 with a 6,500 stadium capacity likely won't help that

| well it's the idea that sports should over take economics. SD eibar paid their players and stayed out of debt, something that hasn't been happening all over spain. why should they have to suffer, while real madrid and barca bask in the billions of TV dollars and still be unable to pay off their debt? |

| Because like Real Madrid and Barcelona, La Liga is also in debt. Admitting Eibar into the league would worsen the situation. |

Actually, I take that back. I was going to say they would lose money in TV viewership, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be interested in watching that town of 27,000 with a 6,500 capcity stadium in La Liga |
