Hello, Mark. The the seas roar as waves crash the side of the ship, but you are at the stern, looking on as you approach Leno Island. A new journey awaits you. As the galley shudders. You momentarily lose balance as it scrapes against the beach. The rock walls of the inlet tower above you as the other galley lands.

People begin to stir and land on the beach.

Counting the colonists under command, you notice a few of your old associates from back in your merchant days.

Kindove the Sailor, a hardy man. He has good gun skill from his days fighting pirates for Cuillon. (sailing skill, navigation skill, +gun skill)

Cres the Shipwright, a fine woodworker. You know him from your days managing sea trade routes. (sailing skill, navigation skull, +builder skill, +woodworking skill)

Teft, a former sergeant from the Cuillonish army. He was framed for desertion and thrown into prison, but his skills will still be of use. (labour skill, +leadership skill, +sword skill)

Jesl, a former strongarm of yours who did your dirty work. He was thrown in prison for a murder. (labour skill, +random skill)

People begin to pour off the boats and congregate on the beach, set on unloading cargo from the boats.

What do you want to do?

I order my settlers and convicts to begin chopping down wood.I then tell my builders to get started on some houses with the wood that will be chopped down. For now I order my sailors to go fishing for food, and my miners to search for any visible caves or places they could start mining.I also request for my farmers to start tending the land and growing crops from the supplies we have.

You are not sure if you have the tools or means to do this yet.

Would you like to check the cargo?

While unloading your cargo, you go through a check of all the supplies and tools you brought overseas with you.

muskets
pistols
swords
mining tools
farming tools
domestic tools
construction tools

points: 120 (Your expertise as a merchant allowed you to bring more supplies)

Choose your supplies wisely.

Looking over the list,I count the following.

muskets:15
pistols:5
swords:15
mining tools:30
farming tools:25
domestic tools:10
construction tools:20

I reckon the things we brought should be good for now,but one of the first tasks on my agenda after establishing homes and a steady supply of food should be making more tools for everything.

Your colonists all make it on shore and anchor the boats. In time, you will need a proper dock, but for now you head inland.

The inlet ends off on a hilly plateau choked with thick coniferous forests. You can see a vegetation-covered mountain in the north, towards the center of the island.

What do you do?

I order my convicts and settlers to begin chopping down the trees of the plateau. As soon as one of the larger hills are cleared I will order my miners to begin a quarry into the hill. For now they shall assist the builders with building homes for everyone to live in.I order my farmers to begin tending the flattest nearby land to grow food on for now, while I order my sailors to fish by the coast.

The convicts are quickly shackled by their ankles in a line to form a chain gang. Teft helps order the rowdy lot. They are each equipped with an axe (domestic tool) and assembled. The settlers are uneasy around the convicts even though they are chained.

Your miners, along with the builders, help measure out some open ground. Markings for houses are dotted along the hill adjacent the markings for a quarry. It will take some time before each is done, so you should put up some basic shelter.

Your farmers ask you what kind of seed you want them to plant and if they should square out plots like the builders.

"Sir!" Kindove walks up to you, concerned. "Er, no mean to disrespect you an' all, but we're seafarers, not fishermen. There is a big difference between the open ocean and the coast. If you want, we could still take a stab at it."

(these initial roles branch out into specialized sub-roles eventually)

Turning to Kindove I calmly say,"I understand it is not your profession to fish from the coast, but I thought it would help with the food supply if you did so.Once we have a dock set up we will be able to send the ships out for the actual duties of a sailor such as yourself." I then tell the farmers to also work in squares like the builders are doing.Meanwhile I pull 6 of the miners away from their jobs helping the builders to construct some makeshift huts out of the wood and weaved conifers of the plateau trees.

Kindove nods. The sailors begin to try and fish. Kindove gets them to sharpen sticks, and they all go down to the shore to try and haul something in.

The farmers take farming tools and begin squaring out plots for rye and barley seeds. You have arrived in the spring--it will take about a year until these grains can be cultivated in winter.

The miners do not know how to build huts.

Giving the builders command of the miners again,I instead pull away a third of the builders to con.struct the makeshift huts.

(The huts I'm talking about are similiar to this:ht(delete this)tp(semicolon)//www(dot)fielda(delete this)ndstream(dot)com/files/i(delete this)mage(delete this)ca(delete this)che/ph(delete this)oto-ga(delete this)llery/leg(delete this)acy/10002(delete this)34456(dot)jpg)

(In other news, roblox filtering is a pain in the rear.)

The miners decide to have half of them work on the quarry while the other half go digging pits for the huts. The builders and the miners begin working. Giving word to Teft, you see some settlers bringing back pine branches. The rest of the convicts have worked on felling the first tree, which they split and pile into a slowly growing stockpile near the tree line.

I take the pine branches and a quarter of the stockpile back to the site of the huts to work on them, but only before I order the settlers and convicts to make two separate piles of chopped logs, one for building and the other for tool making and firewood.
