| I have a question, why did ROBLOX allow use of copyrighted audio clips in user's levels? wouldn't this be copyright infringement under chapter five, act 501.? This is an issue that I have found due to DEVEX, in hindsight ROBLOX would probably get the smaller end of the stick based on prosecution, but that would mean the user's who make great quality games and do not give credit to copyrighted audio that they use could be sued. They are profiting (DEVEX) off somebody's product. Please clear this up for me, thank you. |

ROBLOX respects the intellectual property rights of others. That means if the copyright holder notices that the audio has been infringed without the copyright holder's consent, ROBLOX has to be forced to take it down before legal actions are taken by either the user uploading the copyright material or ROBLOX Corporation itself. This is in compliance with applicable provisions of the DMCA( Digital Millenium Copyright Act). Notably the user or ROBLOX will be in legal trouble or will have their account under serious moderation action if that occurs.
ROBLOX is serious about this which is why audio are moderated for safety of the website, to make sure the audio is appropriate, and to make sure it does not infringe any copyrights. I am guessing that the copyright holders of the audio are contacted before the audio you uploaded is released - I am not 100% sure but that is what I would think.
Hopefully that answers your question. |
