YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED, WITH A SMALL TEAM OF INDIVIDUALS, TO INVESTIGATE A DISTURBANCE IN THE STARBASE D4-MN3D, A LARGE SPACE STATION LOCATED IN ORBIT OF A GAS GIANT. IT IS PRIMARILY EQUIPPED AS A RESEARCH AND LIVINGS STATION, BUT DOES CONTAIN A FEW SMALL ARMS SECTORS, PRIMARILY FOR SECURITY - LOW CALIBER AT BEST. ONCE AT THE STATION, YOU MUST SET UP A TEMPORARY BASE AND INVESTIGATE THE COMMUNICATIONS BLOCKOUT WE HAVE RECEIVED. YOU MAY USE THE STATION HOW YOU WISH DURING THE OPERATION, BUT THE CURRENT SECURITY KEY IS NOT IN OUR IMMEDIATE POSSESSION. BACKUP MAY BE SENT, IF NECESSARY, FROM COMMUNICATIONS OFFICES OR IF YOU SEND AN ENGINEER TO SET UP A TEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS FACILITY. PREPARE FOR YOUR JOURNEY IN 2.9435 DAYS.

Hey there, Commander. We're sending you in with a squad of guards and a few engineers to try and fix the communications hiccup. You can select what the guards are taking, but we're talking at maximum a lethal sidearm. Engineers can be slightly customized, but not much for this mission - you need to fix the hiccup.

LOADOUT SELECTION:
6 Guards avalible: Each has room for a sidearm and 1 equipment slot. Automatic equipment are given without cost.
- Sidearm: Stun Pistol - Fast acting but noisy and loud / Light-Caliber Lethal Pistol - Deadly, but incredibly loud / Suppressed Tranquilizer Sidearm - Near-silent, hard to detect - immediately injects painkillers to avoid detection
- Equipment: Disorientation Canister (Releases a spray of blinding gas) / Disorientation Spray (See above; can be used multiple times in a smaller area / Stun Baton (A basic melee weapon with non-lethal attacks)
- Automatic Equipment: Radio
2 Engineers available: 1 sidearm, 1 Equipment (automatic), 2 Equipment
- Sidearm: Stun Pistol / Nail Gun (Low damage, but can help in building processes)
- Automatic Equipment: Repair Torch
- Equipment: Remote Listener (a remote communications bug) / Remote Uplink (a center for Remote Listeners, and increases radio range) / 3 x Building Blocks (general use building material) / Energy Core x 2 (A general-use power source)

(Ah, have fun getting the secret message. ;) )
The ship shakes from side to side as you may your way to the station. You see it in your sights now; a large, metallic structure which looks like something out of a sci-fi. It gleams, reflecting the harsh light from the sun, but there seems to be a certain air of gloom around it. None of the lights are flashing, most of the docking bays are closed and even from this range no communications are detected.
There's a few places to set down. You could go for a Cargo Hold near a Research Facility, a Docking Bay next to a Small Armoury or a Lieutenant's Docking Bay near some living quarters and a smaller, backup Communications Facility. |

Armory.
And there is no way to translate that unless you gave the site where you got it, there's literally hundreds of websites that do that... |

(Not a translatation, but whatever. It was hidden in the jumbo ;) )
Your ship, a basic freighter re-equipped for light transport, heads through the oxygen field and slowly lands in the docking bay. There seems to be a significant lack of ships here - there are a few drones, broken, scattered here and there - presumably from the electricity turning off and them falling down - but no ships are anywhere to be seen in the jumble of crates around the bay. There are a few doors, but they are all unpowered.
Your six guards head out first, calmly looking around. They seem a bit confused, but are generally just fine about the situation.
---
NEW LEVEL: CALMNESS
Calmness affects the alertness of your men. High calmness gives a bonus to resist psionic abilities and panic, but reduces reaction time. Low calmness grants a boost to alertness, but makes your men uncomfortable and likely to panic. When calmness goes over low to zero, your men panic, not responding to orders and doing random actions for awhile.
---
Your engineers are next. They walk down, and one of them takes out the remote uplink. It looks like a miniature satellite dish with two speakers on it, combined with a laptop and headset all fused together in a steel frame.
You are free to do what you want, but I can suggest options if you wish, such as:
A - Search the perimeter of the docking bay.
B - Start work on opening the unpowered doors.
C - Search the crates.

While the engineers made sure to boot up the remote uplink correctly, your squad splits into threes and goes to investigate. You don't have any direct feed apart from short-range radios until the uplink is ready, so you decide to wait. After a few minutes, the group searching the perimiter reports nothing immediate, while those searching the crates say that there is a small food supply of frozen canned food that they can add to the small amount of supplies you have yourself. The radio goes buzzing for a second with static, before one last person reports that they've got something strange, and ask you to go to them when you've got time - it's not immediate.
Suggested Options:
A: Go to the guard
B: Recall all your men back, and make the guard give a personal report
C: Start up the Remote Uplink |

The engineers run the uplink. "Ah, we've got one camera here." He says, rubbing the back of his head, slightly embarrassed. "Must've left it here."
You head through the maze of crates and come up to the lone soldier, although the others from his group of three are close behind you. He points inside, and you see a box.
A normal, empty box. |

| "Oh, sorry commander." He murmurs, and uses his weapon to gesture to the label. It reads 'Kraken Development Ltd'. "Aren't Kraken a military company? I mean, I know they did SOME science, but weren't they working on biochem stuff?" He questions. |

| A small buzz comes through your radio. "Yo, Commander. Want us to go check out the door?" The second group, who'd returned to the uplink messages. |

"Rodger that, Commander." The radio cuts off, and the group has presumably gone on another search. The radio goes once more - one of the Engineers. "Uh, if you'll excuse us Commander, we took the liberty of attaching the remote camera to the head of that group to go search around. If you want to follow progress, come to the uplink."
The soldier walks into the crate, looking around the boxes. He comes to one, and his eyes widen. "What the **** is this!?" |

| The soldier visibly recoils, and just points inside the box. Several tubes of... is that purple flesh? |

Yup. A whole load of purple flesh. You can't tell if it's alien or if it's just molded.
Either way, it's not exactly the best of signs. |
