If you only counted the high end devices, iOS would trump android by a longshot
It's easy to have a large marketshare as android runs on even the cheapest Walmart android phone
However, even in competition with android and all of their entry-level $5 android phones, iOS still maintains a dominant presence in the market despite being "too expensive"

Nah, I actually have plenty of friends. I don't see how I need to have a smartphone to have friends. Oh yeah, and here's something to make you cringe. Nine of my friends are on my flip phone's contacts, and I don't have unlimited texting. |

"do you not have friends or something"
i don't have a phone at all yet i have plenty of "friends"
how does having a phone affect your ability to have acquaintances
i understand social status means a lot to fake people, but having an overpriced phone used for pointless things doesn't mean anything to me
sure, it's nice to have new things, but i'm not a material person
any "friend" you have because of your things isn't even an acquaintance, it's just somebody who wants to feel above others |

200 dollars for an older model iphone 4 which you would PROBABLY consider obsolete
bottom line is that these "phones" aren't phones anymore
they're multimedia devices designed to break easily and get consumers addicted so they can purchase more
