Because I have really pale skin
Long black hair that covers my eyes
I'm skinny
I don't like talking to most people because they're annoying
And I like to wear tight clothes...
How the hell does that make me an emo???
I just want to see your opinions on this topic, because I want to see what you have to say. |

| If you are actually an emo, you should probably seek medical help. It usually ends forcing you to have cancer. |

Emo is a subculture. And in order to be part of it, you have to agree that you actually are.
Do you consider yourself Emo? No? Then you're not, simple as that. |

I don't think you should be considered "Emo". But their are some people in my school that dress like that, a little bit more towards looking like that group, but I think they are just making it look like they care less about themselves and look for attention.
I'm not saying you do, but that is just what I get from a first look at someone you dresses like that.

''They assume because you look like one, You are one. Cut your hair and wear comfy clothes, Not annoyingly tight clothes. People will see your different and stop labeling you as an Emo. People are going to say this is bad advice, But this is our cruel world.''
Changing your appearance purely so that people stop mislabeling you is bad advice indeed. |

Mmm
I have 4 other friends that are considered "Emo"
I had a serious talk with some "normal people" that are my friends
They said I'm emo, and all emos look alike, and since I look emo I must be an emo... |

ppl are stereotypical they see an "emo" as this one figure who has long black hair, wears black tight clothes, and is skinny.
if you say your emo then your emo if you say you arent emo then you arent emo
its as simple as that. |

''I know it is bad advice, But this is our cruel uneducated society and you do what you can to make people treat you fairly. Unless OP likes being labelled Emo.''
Some things are better to just bite through, rather than changing yourself to fit with the rest. |

@burger
Yeah but rumors spread about me being emo
I was actually sent up to the office for counseling, because they thought I was self harming myself. I told them it's not of their business, and I showed them my wrists. They were being total idiots about it.
And no, why should I change my looks to try and fit in with another labeled group of people? I'm just trying to be what I want to be. |

I remember "Emo" as being a type of music genre
Now the past generation, or maybe the past two generations emo is stereotypical for someone who is depressed and what not... |

Really? Now this is quite ridiculous. Just because of your appearance, people think you harm yourself? Hell, I'm a Metalhead and so far I know I don't burn churches and sacrifice lambs. Ofcourse, misjudgement has always been a thing.

Continue doing that. :) |

@clone I think you should just keep doing what you are doing. I have worn the color orange for 3 years straight, some people at my school think it is pretty weird, but otherwise they all just think it is normal now. If you catch any rumor you should stop it though, or tell the school about it.

Lol, I live in Ireland and orange is a part of the flag. It isn't a common color at my school though.

Well it's nice to know some people aren't judgmental
I enjoyed this conversation, thanks for everyone who didn't spam false emo hatred. I was kind of expecting this to be turned into a flame war, but hell... I posted this anyways and I liked the outcome. |

What can I say? Being a Metalhead I know the feeling of misjudgement. And it sucks, but eh. It's no big deal, really, you'll find the right people in no time.
You just gotta bite through and continue to do what makes you feel comfortable. (Unless that involves murdering lambs and burning churches. Don't do that.) |

Adding to what ferry said, you can do what every you want, as long as it doesn't harm someone else. If people have a problem with that, they should get mental help.
