It doesn't matter how you look at it:
Sub-Saharan Africa, in comparison with virtually every other place on Earth, has made far less cultural and technological achievements throughout its history (Even before the era of Colonialism).
I mean, they hadn't even been able to develop a written language by themselves. WRITTEN LANGUAGE. The foundation for advancement because it allows future generations to comprehend the discoveries of their ancestors.
From a historical standpoint, they're just inferior. There's really no way to avoid this fact. |

The furthest they were able to advance in terms of writing were a few extremely basic pictograms that barely qualified as a language, and more as basic symbols of understanding.
Ancient China had already been doing that during the third millenium BC.
Hausa only managed to become written when they were introduced to Arabic, meaning that written was only made possible by the Middle-Eastern world. Same goes for Igbo Braille, which was developed from braille that originated in the West. |

Copy and paste from Wikipedia all you want, but the truth remains that Sub-Saharan Africa's overall development is so objectively inferior to every other corner of the globe that it is impossible to deny.
If we want this to boil down to fact-vomiting, I can dump every single piece of European classical literature and we'll see how it compares to a primitive language of basic phonetics. |

"South Africa is just as developed as Egypt, I think....."
South Africa has more advanced policies, there were riots in Egypt and the government is discriminating. |

South Africa was the first country to accept marriage equality!
But yeah... it seems like South Africa has a problem of racism now, from both sides. |

@Dav
It's over now, it's been over since 2013.
Even the EGP value is rising.
and BTW, if you keep doing that(Judging countries by past events) I guess I will just have to counter now wont I? |

How long ago is " Past events "
I wouldn't call 2011 a " past event "
From your description, you can't judge a country from what has been going on from every second before now ... |

| Very few civilizations developed writing by themselves. Writing was created by the Mesopotatamians, Egyptians, Mesoamericans, and Chinese. The Mesopatamians spread their writing into Europe and the Middle East while the Chinese spread their writing to the rest of Asia. The Mesopatamians and Chinese couldn't reach Africa and Egypt never introduced their writing to anywhere else. So that's why Africa didn't have writing systems. The Europeans and Asians never made their own writing. |

"The Europeans and Asians never made their own writing"
"Writing was created by ..., and Chinese"
"The ... Asians never made their own writing"
At least try to be consistent when you're proving a point. |

It's due to most of the countries being landlocked, little plants that support life, dangerous animals, etc. In other words, 'Geography.' is the answer. |

A lot of people here are calling me racist. Go figure.
What I'm trying to find out is why Africa didn't develop grand empires such as in Asia and Europe*
*(You people know that the kingdoms in Africa were fueled by the slave trade, as they sold their own criminals and war captives off to foreigners...)
(The Egyptians were not sub-saharan African, I'm actually not sure where they were from. Greek and Berber, maybe?) |

The kingdoms in West Africa that existed during the 1500s did. But not the rest of Africa. Mali, Ethiopia, and Songhai were grand empires. |

| Then what happened along the way? Why didn't Africa go the way of Europe or Asia? Did European colonialism have something to do with it? |

Africa's still a backwards, disease-ridden continent, save for South Africa which was brought up by the Dutch and British. They got robbed |
