DreamWorks is playing it smart with How To Train Your Dragon 2.
If you were 15/16 when watching the original movie, now you're 19/20, and so are Hiccup, Astrid, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs, etc.
IMO they look more 12/13ish in the original movie and 16/17ish in the new movie coming out, but that might just because I'm attempting to connect the characters to being my age. :')
Anyways, they're pretty much having the characters grow up with the viewers. I think that's a nice touch. They're changing. :) |

It's not, it's deliberate. The movie came out in 2010, it's not 2014. 4 years. :) |

Ah, well, to me it seems to have been done on purpose...
Maybe I just worship the people who created the movie too much...haha. :) |

Like.. everyone ages, so I'm sure if they stayed the same age people would ask "how much time passes inbetween movies?"
Or they'd ask do the characters not age?

You mean Andy from Toy Story? Yah, I suppose so, and it is a lot less depressing...it's more exciting, really, since the world of dragons has expanded so much more, and there are so many new things to see and learn. :)

Yah, I think I prefer having the characters age...it makes me sad that it's been so long since I was 8 and watching HTTYD for the first time, though... |

Eesh... |

Yes...
Toy Story is less nostalgic for me, though. I was a very close-minded child (still am, haha), so I didn't like movies without dinosaurs as much as ones with dinosaurs. |

Yah, four years.
It's like a birthday present for my sister and I -- My birthday is June 11th, my sister's birthday is June 14th, and the movie comes out June 13th, so we get to see it for our birthdays!
We can't see it the day it comes out, unfortunately, because June 13th is also the day of a field trip to Six Flags which lasts until 8ish, but my sister says she might want to see it on her birthday, which would be amazing! :) |

| This is a bit off topic since it's the books and not the movie, but I'm curious as to when book 12 will come out... |

"the book is so much different than the movie"
Yah, and I love them both.
I love the book's characters and the way it's described. I like how events in the plot all come together to create events, and how those events cause ripples that all connect to make more events. :)
I like how Hiccup has gone from being a scrawny boy who was constantly picked on by Snotlout to a hero. I also love how Toothless turned out to be a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus.
In the movies I just loved everything. The music, the animations, the dragons (especially Toothless), the excitement...honestly, both the books and the movies are some of the best fantastical works I've ever seen...
This may just be because of nostalgia, though. :') |

So far, by the way, I'm more-than-satisfied with the confirmed soundtracks that will be used in HTTYD2.
The song by Jónsi is even better than the original in my opinion, although I adore both songs. HTTYD showed me Jónsi, and I am glad they did, because he's a really good artist. There's something about his music that's...special, I guess... :) |

I don't really like that Hiccup's mother now appears in the movies and knows >everything< about dragons, though. That part bugs me a bit. Over the years, I've always viewed Hiccup as the 'superior' one in the movies and books, the one who knows everything about dragons. It disturbs me that he's no longer the smartest one of them all. :(
Other than that, I am really excited about the movie (if you haven't guessed from ALL of the threads I've made about it)!
I'm hoping that Toothless retains being the only Nightfury out there, though. It'd really be a bummer if all of a sudden there was a huge abundance of them on Berk, and he was no longer special anymore! :( |
