| I was once in a heavy death metal phase and my dad heard it and said "I don't like your music but you are free to listen to whatever you want." I seriously don't understand why some peoples parents try to shield them from the real world. It hurts kids more than it helps them. |

| my parents (at least my mom) cares about what i listen to because some music can bring demons into the house and terrorize us all. yes that's what she actually believes and as a result of that, I usually don't involve her with what my tastes are. |

My parents let me listen to whatever I want and I give them recommendations a lot.
I showed my mom Beyonce's latest album and shes been non-stop listening to it for the past week or so, she even bought the hard copy.
My dad mostly listens to gangstuh rap and trap, and some 90s alternative like Sublime.
I guess that's the pros to having parents born in the 80's.

my mom's tastes just varies on what she finds good. she has everything from madonna to nirvana, generally more on the pop-ish side though, and obsesses over duran duran.
my dad has gone from country (north florida is as south as you can get) to heavy metal (disturbed), and is now more into classic rock mixed with some newer stuff like the new linkin park. he loves meat loaf. |

i was pretty much blaring Chelsea Grin and Impending Doom and Rings Of Saturn and stuff last night and my family didn't care
then again they might've known i was in a bad mood so maybe that's why they didn't interrupt me

""I don't like your music but you are free to listen to whatever you want.""
How is stating his opinion "shielding" you? |

They care, but they aren't extremely strict. I can listen to Eminem, tyler, The Creator, etc. My mom hates Tyler, though. |

Anyways, I can listen to whatever I want.
She (being my mother) states her opinion, but doesn't care. I don't think my step-dad cares at all. Hard to tell cus he's a quiet person.
Anyways, I listen to many different genres. From Celtic Punk, Oi!, Street Punk and Hardcore Punk to Gypsy Jazz to Surf Rock to Ska Punk to Viking Metal, and everything in between. (Though what's listen is what I listen to most) |
