This certainly isn't the heroic send off you expected.

No fanfair, no thank-yous, no show of knowledge that any heroism is taking place, none of that. Flanked by members of the Grantwood militia, carbines set in position on their shoulders, you were lead to a service entrance. It was little more than steps in the ground leading down to a wrought iron door bearing the Grantwood Coat of Arms.

The only person there in a position of power that seemed explicitly thankful was Premier Ravenwood. He shakes your hand, gives a simple 'You're doing us a great service, you know.', then finally places a lantern in your hand. A toolbox with the appropriate tools inside sits by the door.

A militiaman gestures for you to take it. "There be a map inside, should lead ya to the problem area."

This was an absurd statement, as no one knew what the problem area even was. You take the toolbox.

The second you are clear of the doors, they are shut again.

You have a few options at this point:

A. Turn on your lantern.

B. Observe the map.

C. Double check your wristgun, can't have it jamming, if it is needed at all.

The light from the lantern illuminates the old, crumbling brickwork around you. Spiderwebs hang from the ceiling. Rats scurry on the pipes. The tunnel you're in seems to go on into the endless black.

Your wristgun appears to be okay, it's a good gun. Hopefully you won't need it past shooting a rat in boredom.

You take a look at the map. Oh dear, Jesus. The map is convoluted at best, the path seeming to twist and turn, weave and bob, coming close to what the "problem area" appears to be, before suddenly dipping away.

This is going to be harder than expected.

Options:

A. Venture into the unknown.

B. Try to make sense of the map.

The map appears to be very old, probably made when the Rookeries were constructed. There are several intertwining red, yellow, and blue dashed and solid lines, the closest thing to a current objective you can see is a place labled; Hanover Room.

Well, that's something.

A. Make your way to the Hanover Room.
B. Scrutinize the map further.

You now notice several areas marked off under the title of Temporary Living Quarters. It appears that the Rookeries builders had planned for this sort of thing.

A. Head to Hanover Room

B. Go to a Temporary Living Quarter [TLQ]

B. There is a SLIGHT slight chance thay MAYBE just MAYBE they had plans for this stashed there, like a troublshooting manual or a repair manual or something...

The nearest TLQ to your current position is quite a ways off. It would take a bit of time to get there, unfortunately.

A. Head to the Hanover Room

B. Head to the nearest TLQ, disregarding the distance.

You head decide to make your way to the nearest TLQ. The passageway is very old it seems. Far before your time, your fathers time, possibly even farther than that. The light of the lantern sends the rats scurrying.

Every so often a small flap on a rusted pipe will flip up with a grinding screech, and a hot jet of steam will pour out, coating you in small droplets of water.

Up ahead you some sort of symbol written on the wall in chalk.

What do you do?

A. Continue past the symbol.

B. Examine the symbol.

The drawing appears to be written in black chalk. The picture is of a black vulture with its wings at full extension. In right in between the wings sits a cross, this time drawn in white chalk.

You have no idea what this symbol means, nor have you seen it before.

A. Check the map, it may have referenced something like this.

B. Continue forward.

The map has a couple of areas in the map that are labeled as "blocked off". A crude depiction of the drawing sits behind them. All of the areas eventually lead to some inner chamber called "Backwater".

The chamber does not appear to serve some definite purpose.

The lamp flickers once.

A. Continue forward.

B. Adjust the lantern.

You make note of the symbol, then continue forward. Guessing when you are about to run into a spiderweb is a rather mundane task. Something to pass the time would be nice.

A. Whistle an tune to yourself.

B. Continue in silence.

You continue in silence. As your ears become accustomed to the silence, not including the slight crunch of the ground beneath your feet, you hear a noise. It does not seem to have been made by either the pipes, or an errant rat getting its tail stepped on. No, the sound appears to have been made by a human.

A. Stop and listen for the sound.

B. Continue on.

C. Turn up the light of the lantern.

You lower the levels of light. The noise comes a bit closer, a underlying scraping noise persists throughout the sound. It sounds as if the creator of the noise is dragging his feet on the ground.

You ready your weapon.

A. Call out.

B. Fire in the general direction of the noise.

C. Wait for the noise to get closer, then turn the lamp to a high light setting.

You wait until you think that the noise is within a foot of you, then you turn the lamp to it's highest setting. The form standing in front of you is a tall man, ghostly pale. He wears a sort of suit, from what era you cannot tell. It is gray with hints of black, some being so dark it threatens to drift in to the purple side of the spectrum. The man's shoes are old, you can tell, but are shined to a near immaculate black. He wears a key on a necklace around his neck. His face is old and wrinkled, twisted up in some sort of sadistic smile. His ears are elongated, ending in a sharp point. A white-silver beard encircles his face. He wears glasses, though you cannot see into them. When you try, only glass disks stare back at you.

You have just enough time to take in all these details when the man lifts his arm and snaps his fingers. The lantern darkens, plunging you into pitch black.

A. Squeeze off a round.

B. Egress from your current locale.

C. A combination of A and B.

Squeeze off a punch round, as in slam my fist into his head and then fire off a round, The gun is operated with my palm of whatever hand it is on, so it is possible.
