- BACKSTORY -
The history of Celtanus is a long and muddled one.
Long ago, the planet was completely uninhabitable. A singular planet spinning around a dying sun, all the odds were stacked against it. During the day, storms of fire crossed the land, while at night, the world was chilled into freezing. Spun on a hugely ovular orbit, the planet could not possibly sustain life.
However, that until the Ancients came, an highly advanced civilization on their quest to conquer the galaxy.
On their journey, they discovered Celtanus, the biopolar planet. It might have not been habitable, but it was prime territory in a war they were fighting against another race; the closest planet to enemy land. With a few modifications - the sun reborn, a moon created, the planet's orbit stabilized, and all the necessary ingredients to harbor life added - Celtanus was ready to harbor life.
The records of what was built on the planet were lost to the ages. However, one thing is known for certain: the Ancients lost the war, and were completely wiped out. Celtanus was also completely devastated; the result of a final, desperate attempt of mutual destruction.
However, over a billion years, the old civilization was buried and the planet began to recover. As the world began flourish once again, several new races started their beginning.
- CELTANUS -
The planet of Celtanus is almost completely untouched, due to the fact that sapient life has just started to appear. As you expand, you will discover more of the planet, and I will post Paint maps of the areas explored. However, for now, a basic outline of the planet:
Grassland: A majority of Celtanus is grassland, large plains of native yellow crabgrass with rivers dotted throughout. The climate is mild here, and wildlife is usually not hostile until provoked. However, underneath the land are many large Ancients cities; their existence is the reason for the area's slow growth. Digging in the area might rarely allow you to discover some technological artifacts.
Forest: This biome ranges from tropical to temperate, located mainly across the equator. The climate is rainy to mild, and the land is extremely lush, with hundreds of thousands of species of wildlife. In the tropical forest, wildlife is somewhat hostile; however, in the temperate forest, there is less diversity, but the species are more tame. Rivers and bodies of water are everywhere.
Tundra: Located in the northernmost and southernmost areas of the world, tundras are barren, harsh and deserted, with the species capable of living there extremely hostile. There is not much reason to settle down here; however, sometimes expansion will the halted by the presence of this biome.
Desert: A drier verson of the tundra.
Wasteland: A small percentage of Celtanus is wasteland, areas where the planet is permanently eradicated and cannot recover. These areas are extremely dangerous, and contain some of the most hostile species of the world. The terrain is littered with pools of unknown, poisonous materials and broken pieces of Ancient constructions can be found, due to the recovery of the area being stopped. Huge amounts of technology can be recovered from these areas, but the task is near impossible.
- RULES -
You start off as a "normal" sapient race, with no special perks, similar to humans. However, as you explore, you will discover small crystals left over from the Ancient's times. These crystals, called "Remnants", will allow you to gain fantasic powers, such as telekinesis, fire manipulation, etc. You also have the ability to improve on a power, which are weak when first gained.
While collecting these powers, you can also expand and improve your civilization. As you explore the world, a map will be posted. All regular roleplay rules apply.

Name of species: Rathen Name of civilization: Tarthel Leader of civilization: King Tnorr I Number of members (maximum 6): 4 Appearance: Rathen are quite tall, with no hair growing on the tops of their heads. They have anywhere between ash-grey and a light grey skin, although darker colors are more common. They have no ears, instead, they have three parallel lines going along their cheekline. These lines glow a bright red. They live for about 60 years on average. Starting location (choose from above mentioned): Tundra Other: I sorta copied the race from another of my RPs and adjusted it slightly for this.

(Of course, you're accepted. In the tundra, huh...)
The small tribe of Rathen currently reside in a small rock cave, shelter from the brutal batterings of snow whipping around outside. They have gathered some wood, and enough food for a few days, but you should go exploring. In the east, you can make out what appears to be a rock outcropping, and there's what seems to be a frozen pond in the west. |

Hmm... I'll try leading my tribe to the east, for now. Also, it is quite cold. Perhaps if I could use the wood to make fore or something... Nah, I'll save it for later.

You reach the rock outcropping. It is much deeper than you originally expected, and seems to lead pretty far down into the ground. You can see something glowing in there - could be useful.
In the outer areas of the cave, you find the settlements of a Varnark, underground dwelling rodents that eat ice, and mysteriously, produce heat and energy from it. Their hive is currently radiating heat, gladly welcome in this weather. This also means that some Varnark are around, and you can kill them for their meat; however, their hive will collapse.
Meanwhile, a member of your tribe strikes a stone (a form of flint) against the rock wall and produces sparks. |

I go in with a bodyguard to take the glowy thing. I order the fire guy to go back to the cave we were in earlier and build a fire. I order the rest of the tribe to hunt a few Varnark - Unless Varnark are sentient, in which case I order them to go with me to get the glowy thing.

(Varnak aren't sapient.)
You explore deeper into the cave and discover the glowy thing - a Remnant, half stuck in the cave floor. If you find a way to get it out of the rock, you might gain something useful.
You kill several Varnak. Some you send back to the first cave to cook. However, on the way, it attracts a horde of carnivorous animals; part dog, part polar bear, with extremely sharp claws.

Try to see if we can claw the remnant out of the rocks.
Try to kill these things - What are they called?

You try and attack the bear/wolf mutant. They don't really have names, but communicate by grunting, so you name them the ever so creative Grunters.
The Remnant cannot be pried out of the rock. Meanwhile, at the cave with fire, a baby is born. There is currently more than enough food to sustain your tribe. |

(Forgot the attack on the Grunters.)
You manage to kick several Grunters away, and stab one with a stick, injuring it. They run off in search of easier prey. One of your tribe has a broken arm, but the rest are unscathed. |

| You all cluster around the fire in the cave. While you were gone, one of your tribe accidently managed to create an extremely crude version of an pickaxe. Perhaps you could do something with this? |

You manage to smash it out with your pickaxe. It is in a perfectly cut diamond shape, with unknown hieroglyphs spiraling around the sides of the device. Holding it doesn't seem to do anything. Meanwhile, another baby is born, bringing up the number of your tribe members to 7.
The storm outside has finally died down. You can see a little clearer now, and travel further. In the distance there seems to be some grass. |

You tell 2 members of your tribe to head for the icy pond. Here, growing next to the ice are several frozberry bushes, each loaded with tons of fruit. These plants are capable in growing in near freezing conditions, taking water from snow. The area is a sustainable source of food, and possibly water, if you can find a way to break the pond.
A member of your tribe discovers more tools that can be created: a hammer and a knife.

Work on making bigger, longer knives called "swords". And use the hammer to break the ice.

(Sorry, been away from 1 in the morning to 12 at night.)
You make these swords. One of your tribe realizes that these swords can chip away at the Remnant. At the same time, you break through the ice with the hammer, revealing a supply of fresh water, as well as small fish below. As the storm has somewhat lifted, you can see a more grassy land in the distance. |

You use the fiber from dead creatures, a stick, and a sharpened rock to make a few makeshift fishing rods. The water is plentiful, and you now have an excess of food.
[FAST FOWARD TO SPRING]
The snows have begun to die down, the weather is warmer, and some small grass is blooming in the previously barren tundra. Your population is now 54, having expanded the cave and made some fortifications, such as a wooden fence around the entrance. Food, however, is at an all time low.
The Remnant is finally broken; a blue light escapes it and enters the chest of the nearest tribe member. You have gained the ability to resist cold (fire in freezing weather is now not a major concern), and now have increased vision distance in snow and rainfall. |

Awesome. I might as well explore colder regions, then. I'll also send a small scouting party to the grassy area.

In preparation for the journey, a very crude backpack and waterskin are invented and built. They are made of animal hide, stitched together with meat fiber and scraps of bone.
8 people, carrying these backpacks filled with the remaining food, water, and wood, as well as equipped with swords, begin an expedition into the center of the tundra, hoping to scout as much area as they can. A snowstorm has started up again, but your new ability allows the explorers to see.
Another 15 members of your tribe move into the grassy area. Here, the tundra has begun to end, and so small trees have begun to grow. Fruit bearing plants are also dotted around the landscape. However, progress into the grasslands beyond is blocked by a rather large and dangerous mountain. |
