Is Horseback Riding cruel?
In my opinion, yes. Domesticated horses spend 95% of their life in a small stall, where they can barely turn around or lie down. They can live up to 30 years in captivity so you can imagine the large amount of time they spend inside that stall, standing in their own feces. The small portion of their life that isn't alone in a stall, is when a peice of metal is stuck in their mouth and they're rode around. Horseback riding is more cruel than the slaughter of animals for food. People who own horses won't admit what they're doing is wrong because they enjoy it so much. They make false claims about how their animals love being in a stall and love being worked. The worst part is, when they get old and can't work, they're killed. Their owners say it's because they're suffering, but the truth of the matter is, they don't want to pay for a horse they can't ride. Although, the average life may be longer in captivity, at what costs is it still work the extra years. My family rides them and I'm completly against it. Having ridden myself, I see just as well as any 'horse expert' what happens to them.
"When I come, my horses *insert-sterotypical horse noise here* really loud."
This may because you locked them up for 23 hours with 4 walls and a gate to look through. Horses are living animals, and the riding of them is abusive.
"Horses are a form of transportation."
No, they're alive. Get over it and get a car.
Horseback riding is unnatural, and young horses are 'broke' in order to be rideable. The very fact that this is needed is a sure sign that it should be stopped.
Most horse owners refuse to admit that their horses are miserable. They've convinced themselves that their horses enjoy being locked up.
So I ask any horse owners, Film yourself for one week, spend 23 hours a day standing in a 3ft by 3ft box, with a waterpipe and a little food. For that other hour of the day, run around in a circle nonstop with a 15 pound backpack.
If you can do it for a week, I'll rest my case.

| Another PETA boy eh? If you sooooo hate horseback riding go invent a time machine and go to when horseback riding started. I'm sure Roman troops had cars and helicopters. |

Chocolate, I'm storing this and,
I'm not talking about the past. The past is over, but riding horses in the present is unneeded and abusive. |

The worst part is, they drive the cars to a barn, where they get their horses and ride around in a circle, put them away, and drive home.
Are you suggesting that the destruction of living animals is better than air pollution?
And when people say it's for transportation, it's not. They don't need to go around in a circle for an hour, or walk along a trail. |

It's funny because horses enjoy being ridden and it's good exorcise for them.
Besides most horses aren't kept in a barn for hours on end, most actually get to go outside.
Quit listening to PETA propaganda, boy. |

PETA isn't my influence.
I've rode horses in the past and I've grown to hate it.
And I'm storing this in OT instead of other forums so it don't get deleted.
And your horses don't enjoy it; Don't be ignorant.
And most horses don't get to go outside. Very few actually. Most horses and kept in stalls, not in an open area.
Although, if horses are kept in a large enough area where they can move around freely, then riding them might not be as bad.
Forcing them to exercise is only necessary because their kept in a cage. It is a cage, a large, horse-sized cage. |

Be specific and I'll find you sources.
Take a trip down to an equestrian barn. Look around, it's just row and row of animals. Even the wealthy English ones. |

| When the earth doesn't need heat sent from the sun, it deflects it into space, while we are polluting the air by everything we do, and sending out carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide stores heat, and gives the Earth additional heat which it doesn't need. This additional heat can melt Antarctica and leave millions and millions of species extinct (humans possibly).. So don't go talking about the cruelty of riding horses. For it is one or all of us. |

Praps, I hate you break it to you, but a ban on horse riding won't increase pollution very much, if at all.
Farms don't use horses for work, tractors are motorized.
Horses aren't used for legitimate transportation, it's that simple. |

| A farm is a place with crops and trees which exchange carbon dioxide for air. Not riding a horse is a small relief to nature. |

Praps, I'm not talking about improving nature, I'm talking about improving conditions for domestic horses.
The only reason I mentioned nature because someone talked about car pollution. |

Hii.
Exactly, except cats don't get trapped in a little cage and be ridden with a strip of metal in their mouth and a crop on their butt. |

"Horseback riding is more cruel than the slaughter of animals for food."
Have you ever considered the fact that those horses actually ENJOY being rode as well? |

| Also, OP probably watched some two hour PETA movie about how horses stay in stalls all day. It is true that they live in stalls, but they actually go outside and play. Have you ever heard of that, OP? |

Can you prove that?
Has the horse ever walked up and said "I love when sit on my back and make me run around."?
It's not natural. You 'break' a young horse so that it'll tolerate you on its back.
keyword = tolerate
And I have considered if they enjoy it, because I was convinced by my trainers for a long time that they did.
But then I actually listened to the terms they used, "discipline" when it doesn't listen, tighter bits when it won't hold it's head, etc. etc.
It's all abuse, and it has literally no purpose other than human's enjoyment.
And animal slaughtering is less cruel than horseback riding. They eventually 'put-down' the horses anyway, they just suffer for 25 years first. |

"Have you ever heard"
I done much for than heard, I used to ride them.
I've never watched a PETA documentary or whatever, this is my personal opinion.
Your points are unethical and illogical.
You don't see me claiming you watched one of those "And the horse saves its owner" movies for little girls.
