Dubstep was born in 1998 as an underground, bassy melodic branch of reggae. For a long time, dubstep was amazing and little-known. It had no ravey elements to it at all - in fact, it was chill. It was the kind of music you could fall asleep to.
Somewhere around 2005, Dubstep exploded in EU. Slowly, DJs started to make it more and more 'mainstream' by adding crazy breakbeats and loud synth noises. In 2008, the idea spread to America, and the genre completely changed.
By the time it hit mainstream, "dubstep" was unrecognizable. The stuff you hear from DJs like Skrillex and Knife Party is awful.
Here's a sample of what the majority of the genre USED to sound like: /watch?v=5S50H42_qIg
Chill, right?
Conclusion: before you hate on dubstep, look back to it's roots. It was once a perfectly good genre, and there's a vast majority of people who admire this.

| The original dubstep was Metal. Loud noises put together to sound bad4ss. Atleast that's my opinion. |

| @lizardboy9 dubstep did not originally have loud noises. You should listen to the link in the original post. |

But Skrillex and Knife Party aren't awful.
And I hate the people who think they're cool for listening to proper dubstep. |

tbh skrillex isnt as bad as some people say he his, and some of his stuff is calm anyways. i think i prefer more like what is referred to as dubstep now, ellie goulding has definitly made very good songs sort of under the influence or whatever lol, hanging on for example pls listen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap-A0RKhi2s i know the video isnt the best, but still though. also the album version is much better it doesnt have tinie tempah in it not that i have anything against him idek why i gave you the link with him in it but whatever |
