Have you ever done something you regret?
Not something little, something huge. Something that eats at you every time it pops up in your mind. Something you hate yourself for. Something that just makes your skin crawl.
Maybe you did something stupid and lost a job that could have changed your life. You might have let go of a lover, dropped a friendship that you realized was important to you just a little too late. Dropped out of school, didn't go to college, treated a family member horribly before their death maybe?

I've had lots of regrets, just like any other human would I suppose. But some regrets hold darker stories than others, some are worse than lost love and futures. Some might incorporate both, in a way.

Out of all of my regrets, my biggest is killing.

- INTRODUCTION -

The world has always been full of terrible things, the act of taking ones life being one of them.
What do you do with people that are sick enough to do that anyway?
Throw them in jail, and then put them to death, the usual?

The year is 2040; Earth's population is up, as well as the murder rate. Jails are overcrowded.

Laws were passed years ago regarding locking up those not seen as threats. Addicts, thieves, those with mental illnesses that weren't actually a danger to anyone but themselves without help: all of these people are either given help, put out in the world but watched heavily, or put in some sort of home where they would be cared for. This made things a lot easier back in 2017, when everyone had finally had it and decided the prisons really were too full. They cut the number of people in jail in half by acknowledging those not a danger to anyone didn't need locked up. Ever since then, only threats to society were taken in. But now, years later, jails are packed again, full to the brim with killers and other scum. All murderers with no mental issues, over a specific age, and (sometimes) no good reasoning for their actions are immediately put on death row to help lower numbers.

There's no hope for them, except a peculiar game show, but I'll get to that just a little later. First:

Things have changed a lot. Not just prisons, the justice system too. Courts are more...Arena like. Verdicts lie completely on the judge. And honestly, it's even more corrupt than before. The world is more dangerous than ever, I'm afraid.

And that game show....

Created to give killers hope, and to please people in opposition of the death penalty, just a bit. Mostly just for the American people's entertainment.

- THE GAME -

10-20 murderers are chosen throughout the country every month. Ones on the death penalty, ones in prison for life. They are given a chance to play in this competition, and if they agree to it, they might just end up living and getting out of jail. Some people are just too dangerous to be let out obviously, so instead they get to stay alive, and live the rest of their jail-life in luxury.

There's an old island somewhere off the coast of florida, one with an old city. It used to be a popular place for tourists and it was a nice place to live. Not much military presence, the perfect place to attack. It was the first area bombed during the war.

No survivors, no one willing to rebuild and live there afterwards. Many buildings still standing, many laying in ruins. It's a very haunting place.

And while people used to fear the ghosts that might possibly lurk there, now you should probably be more scared of all the traps that lay in wait.

The contest is very simple. Contestants are rounded up and taken to this city, and must survive there for 20 days, avoiding traps and disasters. While killing isn't necessary, it is encouraged upon occasion. Killing another contestant might end in you getting some sweet tools for surviving or even medical help if you need it. Between that and just the crazy people you'll end up with, killing is a regular thing in game.

And you, the one reading this, are a lucky contestant!!!

But how will I, your lovely OP, handle all of this stuff?

After everyone has joined, I'll assign numbers to all of you. Basically, I have a list of traps and disasters with numbers listed and whenever I think its time for something to happen, I'll roll a dice. Once I have the problem, I'll then pick who gets to deal with it by rolling again and it will land on one of your numbers. After that, I'll roll AGAIN and that will decide how you come out of it. You might just get a small injury, a major one (that might require killing someone for treatment o:), or you might die right away.

If you have a major injury, you'll have 5 posts to do something about it (late posts and ooc posts won't count, don't worry!)before you die. If you decide to go after someone, the dice will come in play again. Low number, you fail, high number, you succeed. If you want to kill someone while injured, your chances at succeeding will be lowered depending on how bad that injury is, but its worth a try if thats your only option. An ally can kill for you to get you help too, and they might even have a better chance.

If you just want to kill someone off whenever, whether its for kicks or to score a cool weapon or a first aid kit or other supplies, go for it. Dice will play a part again, and the other's fate will be dependent on that. If I roll a 0, your attempt will backfire, and your "victim" will be allowed to kill you if they decide to. Though I've decided killings will be spaced out, you can't just decide your going to kill someone every post. And every time you go for it your chances will be lowered a bit.

Whatever problem you've got, whether you're being targeted or you've ran into a trap, I'll message you your fate and you can write it out however you want.

- RULES -

1. 20 members at max, 10 at minimum. This roleplay will start with most characters chilling in their cells the day before the competition starts, and then eventually all will meet with each other. Once it comes to this point in the roleplay, no more members will be accepted.

2. Your characters are not safe, their survival is not guaranteed. No whining if your character is killed or injured, even if it's earlier than you'd like. Joining means you accept this. Even after your character dies though you can feel free to stick around and chat ooc and even go more into depth about your characters back story and personality if you'd like.

3. Decent grammar is a requirement. It doesn't have to be perfect, you don't even have to capitalize anything if you don't want. Just make sure your posts can be read.

4. Denote out of character with (('s. ((here is an example))

5. No godmodding. It's annoying. Don't do it.

6. Treat other roleplayers with respect.

7. Respect their characters too; If you want yours to be anothers sibling, or you want some other bond between them, that feeling has got to be mutual.

8. If I call you out on something, thats that. I am the god of this thread. I decide whats against the rules and what isn't. If you do something I don't want you to, even if I didn't mention it here, you need to stop. No excuses.

9. If you disobey these rules, your character will probably just be killed off and you'll be kicked from the thread.

10. There's really no limit to how many characters you can have, just make sure you can control them all.

By joining, you accept every single one of these rules.
