It's was just made up by a bunch of people who wanted to promote their own books.
They propose that most kids books these days are lacking in certain g3nders, LGBT people and r4ces.
But if you look at the most successful kids books...
-H4rry P0tter; Girls and boys. People of different r4ces. Dumbledore and Grindelwald LGBT.
-Percy Jackson: Girls and boys. People of different r4ces. (spoiler) Nico is LGBT.
-Artemis Fowl: Girls and boys. People of different r4ces. There not gonna bring LGBT into a book about freaking fairies.
-Skull Duggery Pleassant: Girls and boys... Pretty sure people of different r4ces are in it. -Wonder: It's about a guy with a deformity, that's pretty diverse.
-How to train your dragon: It's in scandinavia 1000 years ago... so yeah.
... Also why is HP blocked on the filters? |

Movies who have a majority white cast do better than mixed casts that's why I like the hobboit, it's a living example |

"It's in scandinavia 1000 years ago... so yeah."
What does that have to do with it? I haven't read the books, but everyone in the movie was white.
Also, a lot of people don't mention the Dumbledore thing, apparently. I've seen many call it a "publicity stunt." |

Like I said, didn't read the books. So I'm assuming the movie directors changed it. |

| It's like that in the book because why would there be Asians or black people in Viking times? It was five hundred years before multiculturalism. |

Oh, wait, I see what you mean now.
At first I thought you meant that the entire cast was non-white due to being in Scandinavia. |

the problem is that most published and popularized books are in the point of view of, most commonly a straight white male
and you cant just take a few popular series or books and say they amount to the entire population of books
but it wont do much difference if books become more diverse because the real problem just lies within the media in general and mostly tv and movies |

| @BringOnTheAlt, I think that might offend a Scandinavian person because they consider themselves white (as do I.) |

I seriously don't even know what you are talking about.
Look, at first I thought you meant that living in Scandinavia made them non-white by default or something. Then I realized that you meant most people in Scandinavia long ago were white, so non-white characters wouldn't make sense.

its troubling when there are things like what you said being created but people refuse to buy/read/watch/play/etc them from the get go because they are by someone either unrecognizable or because they just dont agree with the content
nothing is going to move forward unless someone in the big leagues steps up and makes a controversial decision, otherwise any equality movement is still going to take quite a while to move forward |

@BringOnTheAlt:
I thought you were talking about white-washing like how on Frozen people complained because they didn't look like "native" Scandinavians. |

I wasn't. I thought you were implying the original book characters were PoC because I didn't pick up on the sarcasm in your one post, so I was confused. |

"but people refuse to buy/read/watch/play/etc them from the get go because they are by someone either unrecognizable or because they just dont agree with the content"
I see what you mean, but its still creating diversity in literature/movie/etc. "Hidden gems" if you will...if they are good enough to be called gems, but still hidden and waiting to be discovered. I don't understand what you mean by "agree with the content". Could you elaborate?
"nothing is going to move forward unless someone in the big leagues steps up and makes a controversial decision, otherwise any equality movement is still going to take quite a while to move forward"
My problem is when people try to force equality. An example is when people (mostly tumblr) complained about an equality of people of any color being in Frozen. Frozen is inspired from a novel written in Scandinavia (Denmark to be exact) in the 1800s and I'm not sure about the diversity at the time, but I'm sure there were barely anyone except native Danish people where the author wrote The Snow Queen and he envisioned everyone to be what Danish people to look like. It's like if I were to put Europeans or Africans in Mulan for the sake of diversity despite Mulan taking place in ancient China.

yeah, I get it
I'm not discouraging it though because you are right. And by not agreeing with content I mean against euality whether it be racial, gender related or lgbt ad etc
I agree with you one forced equality as well, because it just makes the groups fighting for equality look stupid or mindless
take PETA and FEMEN for example |
