@OP: Jay.
@Above: "Has big flaws too." You're completely right to put that important 'too' there. Fact remains, communism never worked out well and capitalism dominates the world.

Nay
The US system is failing big time, every day I hear hours and hours of radio shows about what difficulty the US is going through with its system, how the billionaires are screwing it up in every way possible. Are you aware how the Citizens united have changed the amount of money that corporations and rich people can spend on politics? Do you know the conservative judges are now majority in the Supreme court? Do you know that there is no one man one vote in the US, because of electoral college? Do you know how the gerrymandering is allowing Repubs to own the congress? This country, which happens to be the most powerful in the world is running itself to the ground.
The core idea is that you want an efficient system with as little waste as possible and at the same time it maximizes the productive and creative potential of the human capital/resources - a system run for, by and of the billionaire do not for sure provide it, Nordic system I think does a better job than the US and I believe China has the potential to develop a meritocracy that may beat both, but its not a given. It can be achieved through experimentation and research, but the free market and capitalist dogma in the West will for sure not let it happen in the West. The powers that be controls the media, politics, money everything, they will never allow anyone who will threaten their status quo. You have seen how the Occupy wall street movement was crushed, it was kind of a moronic movement anyway, very disorganized and quickly got infiltrated by govt. subversives and provocateurs. But they have little power over how the Chinese system evolves and that is a good thing for the world.

Yay,
Capitalism is the most efficient model (other than dynamic efficiency) for the means of production. Capitalism creates a system of competition, which in turn will force firms to operate to their full potential, both productive and allocative, which ultimately maximises welfare for the consumer. It should be noted under a Capitalist models monopolies can be formed, which operate in a similar way to a government-run industry, so it is important to have a government who is capable of regulating monopolies so the consumer and employees aren't ripped off.
There are other times where government intervention is necessary too. Providing support to those whom really are SEEKING work and also though in low-paid unemployment failing to make ends meet. Intervention is also necessary to force firms and consumers to pay for the negative externalities they cause that may come about through production or consumption. |

I personally also dislike the US' system for some parts, but as a whole, it's big time much better than the USSR has ever been.

That is true, but it is far from perfect.
Every government system from the past has been criticized by those from the present, which in turn will be criticized by those from the future. This is inevitable. |

But I'm pretty sure capitalism will stay for a long time. I'd be happy to debate why.

Yay.
The American government corrupted Capitalism and turned it into Corporatism here in the USA. So real Capitalism is way better than Corporatism. |

| Capitalism has it's own set of evils, just like any other system. However, I am going to have to say yay, because it seems to lead to an overall more "healthier" (economically, if somewhat regulated by government influence) society than many other systems. |

| yea. some people dont really seem to realize how much of a privilege it is to live in a capitalist country. poverty is a rarity and its frankly better than any other systems that are currently in use. |

| All systems are technically equal to eachother in terms of "pros / cons", but capitalism seems to result in an overall "healthier" society by making the economy more stable overall. |
