"In order for Humans to survive in the next millennium, we will need to establish colonies in space" - Stephen Hawking
"Two big hurdles stand in the way of colonizing new planets. First, habitable planets are light years away and second our space ships are too slow to travel long distances in a reasonable time." - IndustryTap

Are you fed up or something? Don't worry, it's unlikely that you'll live until 2214...

I have come to the conclusion that interstellar travel will be feasible by the year 2200. Ships travelling at 10% the speed of light will take 40 years to the nearest star, which is a reasonable timeframe. Travel even faster, and the law of time and relativity will work in your favor, which means shorter travel times.
That, and the acclubbierre drive could send ships out as fast as 10c, which means reaching other tars in a matter of weeks.
And it need not be other planets, we are currently technologically capable of colonizing the Moon and Mars if we wished.
We are capable of becoming a spacefaring civilization. But we need the $$

@Spacefarer;
We will surely not colonise Mars.
Mars is far colder than Antarctica.
The pressure is low and there is a lack of oxygen; Humans would need to put on spacesuits for everyday life, and that would be quite uncomfortable.
For the simple living of a colonisation on Mars, it would need funding of BILLIONS from Earth every few years. That'd be a pain.
Dust and dust storms. During these, the sunlight drops by 99% every Martian summer. As a result, solar power wouldn't work, and artificial light would be required to grow crops; MORE money from Earth.
Everything looks the same in Human eyes. The photos of Mars look spectacular, but their white balance is changed; in real life, you cannot distinguish the sky from the ground.

Plus, a simple accident that slightly impacts the spacesuit is FATAL.

We will surely not colonise Mars.
[No, just no.]
Mars is far colder than Antarctica.
[I don't see why this is a reason. Mars is warmer than Earth Orbit, yet we have the ISS and Tiagong there? That is an illegimate reason tonot go ahead with the colonization of space. Go home and stay in your heated bedroom on Earth if you feel this way.]
The pressure is low and there is a lack of oxygen; Humans would need to put on spacesuits for everyday life, and that would be quite uncomfortable.
[Not inside the habitats, which are pressured to Earth coniditions and filled with a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen]
For the simple living of a colonisation on Mars, it would need funding of BILLIONS from Earth every few years. That'd be a pain.
[Except we could've colonized the Moon for the amount the Iraq War cost us, and the Martian colony may soon pay for itself in resources and scientific data returned, and even provde profitable. We need to stop killing each other and do something for everyone's benifit for once]
Dust and dust storms. During these, the sunlight drops by 99% every Martian summer. As a result, solar power wouldn't work, and artificial light would be required to grow crops; MORE money from Earth.
[Solar batteries and backup batteries. Dust storms are not very deadly on the ground, but are to flying objects - our colony isn't flying]
Everything looks the same in Human eyes. The photos of Mars look spectacular, but their white balance is changed; in real life, you cannot distinguish the sky from the ground.
[So you're telling me the ground is sky blue? What.]

Also, a small suit breach is not fatal. If a hole is opened up on the suit, the astronaut may have as much as twenty minutes to an hour to reach shelter. May seem like long distance, but astronauts on Mars use rovers that are pressurized just like the habitats, so shelter may only be a couple dozen meters away at most.

No, I'm not saying the ground on Mars is sky blue. Where have you been living? Earth? (that was a bad joke)

The sky on Mars is a much lighter tint of red and orange, and is extremely easy to distingush from the ground unless you are blind.
But blind men don't go to Mars.

"colonise planets!"
we're still struggling with famines, politics and conflicts on earth
lets imagine controlling tons of other planets, that's totally a good idea |

Small suit breach as in msot suit breaches. A entire glove went off someones hand during ISS spacewalk once. He got into shelter in time, so nothing happened.
