Hardly a 'rek', more like an opinion that has had a bias effect on the community due to the users moderation powers.
I'm not having a go though, I love you Corgi! <3 |

@SlingShot: A Knight would crush a Samurai in a one on one duel. Samurai believe in Honor before Reason, while a Knight is taught to win at any means possible, to defend his king, country, and people.

I don't even know what a Samurai is.

Disagree button.
The only thing that brought down the reign of the samurai was the invention of gunpowder and its subsequent use in weaponry.
A knight could be untrained and unskilled (the title of knight was honorary) while Samurai devoted their lives to their swordsmen ship. |

True, but another factor would be the weaponry both had. Most people think that the Katana is the best sword ever, but it's not. The European Greatsword was built in a way so that it could withstand a blow, and it could flex, a must have because by bending, it reduced the stress it would take, thus making sure it didn't snap.
A Katana on the other hand doesn't, so if you were to hit a Katana with a European Greatsword, the Katana would bend, or in some cases break.
This video gives a perfect example of what would happen, if you don't mind it being in German: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVCaJdYZmCU

I hope youre enjoying this as much as I am.
Ahem. I agree with your sword comparison. The European Greatsword would have more power to it. A samurai couldn't do much blocking to stop one. However, the greatsword lacks speed. So if the kinghts initial charge failed I believe the samurai would make quick work of him afterwords at close range. It would really come down to the skill level of the knight, because as I said, knights can range from the well trained to the completely inexperienced.

lol, I enjoy discussions like this a lot, people learn new things. Much of the Samurai's attack would depend on if he could cut through the knight's armor, or if the knight blocked it with his shield.
Most knights wore chainmail, then the standard armor, and had either a longsword and shield or a greatsword, and always carried a small dagger with them.

| Sling is right. A warrior can’t hope to defeat an opponent without any sort of speed, and mobility. Samurai+1 Knight-0 |

| @13th, Katanas aren’t weak. Most of them can halve a car like butter. The real ones, so I doubt the armor would protect a knight for long. Shield too. |

| I suppose you are right. Still, ninjas wouldn't stand a chance against samurai in armed combat. |

On that, I agree. The media has glorified Ninjas so much that most people forget that they were originally just spies. The Ninja did have one thing they could use against a Samurai though: The Kyoketsu-shoge.
The point of the weapon was to swing the 12 or 18 foot rope or cord around an opponents arm, once the cord was over, you would repeat the process and then pull, creating a knot around the wrist of the opponent.
Once they had this knot around the wrist, if they made any movement to cut or untie this knot, you were trained to pull them forward, causing them to stumble, in which you would then slit their throat.
My younger brother, Leodin, is actually a lot more knowledgeable about this than I, so if you like debating about this kind of stuff, or just want to learn something new, you should take some time to send him a message. I also recommend checking out the YouTuber called Lindybeige. You'll learn so much about medieval culture, weapons, and a lot more.
Oh, and he's English, which makes watching his videos a lot more fun.

Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.
I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)
I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.
I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%
When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!
I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.
Wish me luck in Japan! |
