In this thread I hope to cover a lot of problems people are having with Roblox that can be solved on your own without having to contact Roblox's tech support
Part 1: Temporary files This takes care of temporary files. What you want to do about these, is make sure you clear them. There are multiple temporary files that could be corrupt and causing some problems. Some common locations of these temporary files are
"C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\"
"C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\"
(These locations are listed in roblox's tech support emails, but in my case I did not have these files/folders.)
If you have trouble locating temporary internet files like I did, you can simply run a Disk Cleanup and select "Temporary Internet Files" and they will be cleared.
There are other temporary files, such as your browsers. Most browser temporary files can be cleared by just going into its settings and clearing browser data.
Part 2: Local files This part takes care of stuff roblox saves locally, which can also cause problems. Problems caused by local files are less frequent, but just as frustrating. Luckily these are easy to take care of
Simply go to: "C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Local\Roblox" Delete everything in the folder, and your local files are cleared.
Part 3: Re-installing Re-installing roblox is a more common fix, that takes care of never-ending updates and missing files (Never ending updates are usually due to a missing file anyway).
Windows XP: First you are going to open Control Panel and click "Add or Remove Programs". Next, look for "ROBLOX Player" and select Change/Remove. Continue following instructions until Roblox is completely uninstalled.
Windows Vista: For windows Vista, you are going to open Control Panel, then select Programs, and then Programs and Features. After you have done that, now look for "ROBLOX Player" and click Uninstall.
Windows 7: First open Control Panel and look under the Programs section and click "Uninstall a program". Then look for "ROBLOX Player" and double click it, or right click and select uninstall.
Windows 8: First open control panel and select "Programs and features". Next, simply select "ROBLOX Player" and select uninstall.
This clears up how to uninstall Roblox. To re-install Roblox simply try and join a game, or go to www.roblox.com/install
Part 4: Your hardware. There can be a multitude of problems that involve your hardware, and I will try to cover most of them.
First, there is "FPS Lag" FPS lag is when you are playing a game and your frame rate lowers and you get a stutter in your video feedback, or it simply freezes to a stop.
There can be two causes for this. 1: The game has too many things going on at once and your computer, or roblox's servers cannot handle it. 2: Your computer hardware is out of date, and needs an upgrade.
Let me just say this now and get it over with, no matter what you think, most laptops were not made for gaming (unless actually made with the intention of playing high quality games) and will never be a complete substitute for a desktop, meaning you will not get the performance that a regular desktop would.
Next, we have "Network Lag" Network lag is a little harder to describe, but everyone has had it at one point. This is what happens in a situation where you do something on a game, but you get a delayed response back. For instance, say you said something in game but it does not show up for a few moments. Network lag also can be to blame for disconnecting or connection issues.
For network lag, there are quite a few possibilities and fixes. 1: The Roblox server is under a heavy load, and can't recieve all the packets being sent to it. 2: Your internet is under a heavy load, and can't send the packets needed to the Roblox server to keep your connection up 3: Your signal via WiFi is not strong enough and you cannot send/receive packets from your router.
Naturally, you cannot do anything if Roblox's servers are under a heavy load, but as for your own network, you can try restarting/rebooting your router.
If you have a low WiFi signal, and are on a laptop, try changing locations at where you are trying to play, or if that doesn't help, hook your laptop up to the router via Ethernet cable.
I hope this helps a lot of people, and I would appreciate if everyone could keep this thread alive so it can keep helping people who have generic problems like these. |
