SO You may have seen my threads on how there is nothing but crap on the front page. I will be bumping that thread up shortly, but in the meanwhile I'd like to post this idea that I've been harboring for a while.
We all know how terrible the front page of games is. There are three types of games; the occasional (once in a blue moon) solid original game, the copied/free-modeled game, and the straight-out false-advertised game. Not only that, but we all know about the recent surge in immature "18+" games reaching the front page (my mind still ponders over how in the hell that happens), but ANYWAY! All these games (with the exception of the solid, original games) runs on one core principle; free models.
My idea is simple; track the ownership of models in general.
This concept has multiple uses. Prove to people that the guns that zealous clan stole are actually yours! Be able to post your models without worry of one stealing them and taking all the credit! And my favorite part; be able to judge the front-page developers.
I am no builder or scripter, but I understand that Models can be save in two ways; on ROBLOX, or in your hard drive. To track ownership through hard drives, I suggest adding an additional code to each model or place saved there that verifies the ownership of the model (or place) once added in game. This code has to be multi-faceted; say someone tries screwing around with the ownership. The code has to be able to either not be able to be edited, or (in the case of exploiters) break if tampered with. If it breaks, then the Model will not function and you cannot add it into the game. Tracking ownership through ROBLOX is much simpler; you just do the same thing but this time add it to the site.
But what if someone tries saving a Model as their own? This is where the beauty of ownership tracking comes into play; from then on, every time a person saves or publishes a model, the game checks to see if a certain percent of the model is actually the publisher/saver's. This percentage can be determined by ROBLOX. If the percent free-model is higher than percent original, then the Model cannot be published.
Now, for the final nail in the coffin to terrible front page games; if a game has more than a determined amount of free models in it, then it cannot, I repeat, has NO chance of reaching the front page no matter what. It doesn't matter how many likes it has, how much money it's making, or how many people are playing it, if it has more than a determined (by ROBLOX) percent of free-models in it, it is impossible for it to reach the front page. Not only will this allow better games to get noticed and be played, but it will encourage developers to learn how to build and script better games.
So there you have it. Free-Model tracking. Comments? Questions? Cake? |

| Support, however I think that people should be able to make their OWN models that they release in the public domain not count towards OTHER people's tally, as in sports places, people often use a standard pitch. |

Do you mean make it possible for models to not be tracked? I agree with that, but it needs to be strict to protect against exploiters. |

| Models are not meant to be tracked. They're open sourced for a reason. |

What I mean is: I make a hockey rink for my league (just the rink no stands) I set it to not be tracked Someone uses it. Doesn't get added to total

This is a good idea, however, you could always put a gui at the top saying, ' The maker of this game thanks x333x for his mansion,' But, this will cut own oin them 'juststeven' game crap. |

| Ownership doesn't stack; the ownership is that of the original person from start to finish regardless of how many people use it. |

This update doesn't prevent people from having free-modeled places, it'll just stop them from reaching the front page.
MEWTWO, what you are saying relates back to our first exchange about public domain. Please read my response there. |

| It's a shame to see good games die and bad games thrive. Support. |

The only think I think that could be added to this, is a warning thing for the creator, so if he is good, and just rely's on free-models for certain things he is not capable of creating, he would know to remove some, instead of it just not working, and the creator wondering why.
If that would be implemented, together with this, I think the front page will be a better, and safer place. |

| Support, but I feel like free models are there for a reason. Especially if people put them on-sale. Some free models are useful, however (admin scripts, etc, are classed as "free models"), so limiting the amount of free models used would be more helpful. Imagine trying to have a nice hangout for you and your friends, with no admin. |

And to add on to what I just said, it could reach the first page in like, say if it's BC only, it could reach there and no free models would be allowed.
(sorry if that literally just made no sense.) |

Impossible to do. How would you do this?? IDK, say that model is named something, and you can't edit the name? Select the children, and paste. UNLESS you locked the parts and scripts, but then you can't edit it, rendering all FMs. And why, just WHY do you not like FM games? I can make a terrible game without them, and a great game with them. We're trying for GAMEPLAY here, and if people find ODer games, and fight u deth or di games, well let them have it, it's their choice. There are plenty of good games (That are not FM, or ODer) on there RIGHT NOW: Murder Mystery Hot wheels Greenwood town Work at a pizza store (My favourite in 09'!) Twisted plastic Jeep Obby Total wipeout Wheel of fortune Stop it, slender Darkness 2 (My favourite front page game) And 1 page in you find: RoSims Paintpall V.I.P (My favourite game EVER!) Watchdogs Ignoble Medivialville City Creator After the Flash

Bump.
I suppose each brick would have to be "tainted" (for lack of a better word) with the code of that in the hard drive. You could still change the name and move or delete the bricks but they still would belong to the original creator. |
