So this is something interesting I wanted to discuss.
I bet quite a few of you have already heard about lucid dreaming, which amounts to being aware that you are dreaming. One of the things that make lucid dreaming so appealing is the ability to control your dream (though total dream control is kind of very difficult, and normal control isn't guaranteed either). The idea of being able to mess around with the world like a god is very appealing.

However, I discovered some time ago that dream control can also occur in normal dreams. An example from a dream I had quite a while ago:
I was in some room, and I had apparently taken hallucinatory consumables. This resulted in my vision flashing in different colours (as if I were at a party), and my sense of balance went belly-up and I kind of fell forwards.
At this point, I literally thought: "No stop that" and all the effects spontaneously wore off.

One might argue that that was part of the dream plot, but it didn't feel like that. It was more like a response to the dream itself rather than an idea fabricated by the dream.

THANK YOU OP FOR CONFIRMING WHAT I'VE BEEN WONDERING FOR A REALLY LONG TIME

so basically, even though i don't think i've ever really lucid dreamed, in pretty much every 3rd dream i'll say something like "OH WELL LOOK THIS IS A DREAM, but i'd better not shout about it too much or else my subconscious might notice!"

i never figure what to make of those moments

(bit of backstory required: closing my eyes in my dreams always automatically wakes me up)

so basically i was in this giant mega shopping centre, and i was fighting the final boss of the dream, my father, in a battle of wits

he was an evil magician, and i was a good magician. for once, i had all the magic powers i dream about at my disposal, and i was finally ready to wreck him good and hard (he's a recurring boss in my dreams). so, i picked up a brick and threw it at him, but he used his dark magic to turn it into rain, saying "nope m8 that's not gonna work, you'll need to use a SUPER DUPER MAGIC SPELL to defeat me"

he then explained that I must raise up my arm, close my eyes, and then release da spell

so i took his advice, never stopping to wonder why he'd tell me how to defeat him, just like any self-respecting protagonist would do, and closed my eyes and raised my hand up.

and then, suddenly, i realised i had been tricked. slowly i began to wake up, all the while yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at the top of my voice, until i was completely awake

i got rekt pretty bad

Ahahaha. Defeated by the action sequence. That's pretty cool.

I've actually been trying to develop better dreams. Like, encourage dreams that were good and interesting to experience, discourage vague and blurry stuff. The nice thing about it is how you can witness it develop.
For example, you know how reading in dreams is usually pretty difficult? The text is garbled and changes continuously?
Well, at first the words in my dreams were like that. I recall one time where I met some creature with a nametag hanging above its head, something among the lines of VolVel. Didn't make a lick of sense.
Then I got a dream of a top-down minecart game. My life-bar was called a cookie-meter. As if my dreams slowly became literate.

Another example, which I think is pretty damn cool. I once had a dream about a woman, who was apparently also a thief or something. She looked a bit like Michael Jackson. So my dream-self came up with a joke: "Why can she always get away? Because she's such a smooth criminal!".

Yes, the joke was pretty terrible, but I never had a dream like this before.

my last post was @mega btw

@deltav

yeah ive basically been kind of screwed lately

about two months ago, something happened to my dreams. i'm not sure what, but basically it is incredibly hard for me to remember long ones any more, whereas previously i had no real trouble at all

not really sure why this is, but on another note: is a dream journal any less effective if it's on a computer? because writing for me is really hard work, whereas typing is, well, effortless
