Okay, so because It's 11:34 and I can't be arsed to write out a massive issue, I'll keep this short:
Two/Three days ago roblox was functioning, and for whatever god awful reason it's decided to stop doing it's job now, and has instead gone faffing about inside my computer somewhere. I've even re-installed it, but it still will get stuck on 'Requesting Server' and never actually launch the program. Again, it was working fine.

Well, after uninstalling did you delete any folders remaining in C:\Program Files (x86)\ROBLOX ? If you didn't, do it again, then re-install ROBLOX.
If you can load all the pages in your browser, then I think it's not your network problem.
Try doing that.
And make sure you uninstalled both ROBLOX Player and ROBLOX Studio!

You start playing ROBLOX by starting your browser and going to roblox.com or you launch ROBLOX Player?

I've had exactly the same issue, try using internet explorer instead of Google Chrome or vice-versa.
It appears to be an issue with it not launching the browser plugin for ROBLOX. |

I think I didn't say mine is working... (but it is, but only lag of other players and chat)

i have same issue [WinXP], a lot of players are experiencing this...

Familiar.
You may want to reinstall ROBLOX completely by deleting it via Control Panel, and deleting the "Roblox" folder in Appdata/Local and the "RbxLogs" and "rbxcsettings" files in Appdata/LocalLow.
You may also try a solution proposed a few months ago: (paraphrased) Download Microsoft Loopback Adapter (google tells you how); which may create a front for ROBLOX to recognize and let you connect (because ROBLOX does not recognize Wi-Fi connections)
Hope this helps. (I personally have to reinstall ROBLOX every time I want to join a game via a RobloxPlayerLauncher from January.)

| I have the same issue, it has been working until today when i decided to play some roblox games. They all kept getting stuck at the random words that come up while its loading. I open roblox with the roblox player, but it opens it in firefox instead...either way, that worked before anyways, now it doesnt...is this roblox's fault? my own? can they fix it? can i? plz help sumbody... |
