HISTORY:

The city of Farlkarth has been in existence for the duration of recorded history. Standing tall, with sky blue and pure white towers reaching like spears piercing the sky, Farlkarth is the so-called "center of the world". From all around the kingdom of Dentra people come to gaze in wonder at the beautiful structures, find out all of what Farlkarth has to offer. It is a city of peace, of might and shows the true power of the Empirical Legion, who are spoken in myths to have made the city, and made it great, with the power of the wise and just Emperor Tirak, the founder of peace itself. Emperor Tirak rarely gifts the city itself with his presence, instead relying on his powerful and justful legion of honourable soldiers to look after the city and all its inhabitants. When he does show himself, when we manage to build or create something so amazing that it even creates a minute amount of intrest for him, he has to hide his face from us to prevent his overflowing power from damaging ourselves. In the rare case that any barbaric civilisation is so cruel as to attempt to destroy everything we have created, then our wise and just Emperor settles these events without any deaths recorded - no battles or crimes ever reach the city.

The city is regulated by the power of the twelve gods - Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, who hold back the forces of evil. In a ritualistic ceremony every person of sixteen years of age must go through, known only as the "Choosing", you are chosen by a God or Goddess in order to fulfil a role in the city - it seems to always fit the people chosen perfectly, be it from a simple baker to a noble themselves. Your chosen God or Goddess is usually passed down in the family, but Fate is the one who dictates what you will do in life. Everything is decided by Fate, and for the few that can read Fate, known as Weavers of Time, they can essentially see the future.

YOUR STORY

You are of sixteen years of age, and are coming close to your Choosing ceremony. For every person, this is an exciting and wonderous event - from even the most aggressive or depressed individuals, the Choosing is an event they have been preparing for their entire life so far. Today, you are having your last day of peace and rest before you become a true adult, and become chosen by a God.

DEITIES:

- Pisces: Goddess of Order and Peace

- Aquarius: God of War and Conflict

- Capricorn: God of Art and Music

- Sagittarius: God of Crafts and Fire

- Scorpio, Goddess of Trade and Water

- Libra, Goddess of Law and Justice

- Virgo, Goddess of Magic and Fate

- Leo, Goddess of Love and Hope

- Cancer, God of Life and Space

- Gemini, God of Science and the Mind

- Taurus, God of Nature and Earth

- Aries, Goddess of Death and Mystery

RACES

Many races come from far and wide for the Choosing, to live life in the city.

- Humans: Humans are said to be the original race to inhabit the city. They are simple, possesing no favourable qualities but then again they posses no obvious flaws either, in terms of physical conditioning.

- Elves: Elves are similar to humans, but with pointed ears, leener bodies and a much deeper connection with nature. There are many types of elves, each having bodies slightly adapted to their enviroment, such as Snow, Wood and Desert elves. However, the downside of these enhanced senses and increased agility is that elves are often more frail than many other races.

- Dwarves: Dwarves are stout and proud. They are shorter than most other races, barring Halflings, and have stronger night vision than most. They are strong and have great underground navigational senses, but are clumsy and, of course, rather short. There are similar amounts of Dwarves to Elves - some are called Mountain Dwarves while others are simply Cave Dwarves, but each have small adaptions to their enviroment.

- Halflings: Halflings are the smallest of races. They are, in essence, tiny humans with small elven features. They have a connection with both technology and magic, and are very agile, but lack both strength and are the most fragile of all races due to their small bodies.

- Avians: Avians are where the rumour of angels come from, when humanity was unsure of the world around them. While similar in appearance to humanoids, they have a bone structure more similar to elves - thinner, more fragile yet less heavy, allowing their powerful wings to lift them into the air. However, although their bones are weak and they look thin, their muscles are very compact due to the sheer strength required to lift themselves into the air - making them as strong as a normal human.

- Orcs: Orcs are tall and powerful. They are the same tall height as elves, but are much bulkier, being one of the strongest of all races. However, while they may be powerful and hard to put down, they are not the cleverest of races, and also have an innate bloodlust when going into battle that makes it harder and harder to recognise friend from foe.

- Half-creature: This is the name for a person who has the blood of any kind of magical beast within them. This can range from a petty fairy to a powerful and feared dragon. While keeping some of the qualities of their magical heritage, they are often greatly dulled down, and only immense amounts of training are rumoured to bring out the full force of their heritage. The only problem is that half-creatures are often rather mentally unstable, containing several mental problems - although some of these can aid rather than hinder, their enhanced instincts also cause them to react before thinking. They are also normally rather large - even a halfling and half-creature mix produces a person as big as a normal human, if not the height of an elf.

CREATURES

There are, similar to the large variety of races, an immense amount of creatures that you will discover in the land of Dentra. Think of every myth from every ancient story you can - and then throw every creature from there, along with fusions between these and new ones, onto the land where you think they'd go. Then shake the whole world. That's how many there are. Whether there be only one or two to millions of the creatures, there are a humungous variety that we have only touched the surface of in all different enviroments - and we don't even know how much of the world we have discovered yet!

LOCATIONS

While the lands of Dentra are wide and vast, there are a few main locations present on every good map.

- Farlkarth: The central city for the whole of Dentra. It is where many want to live, and the original homeland of the humans. With its towering pillars and massive walls, it is also the biggest tourist attraction. While the predominant race is humans, nearly all other races have at least a small presence here.

- Elthan: The homeland of the original Forest Elves is a giant forest surrounding Gaia, the world tree and where life is said to have bloomed from. They make their home in the bows of this great tree, with some choosing to live on the massive trees surrounding it - but even then, none compare to the gigantic Gaia. Located North of Farlkarth.

- Dentharos: A large mountain range, which - similarly to Elthan - is said to be the origin of the Dwarves. The mountains have many different terrains, ranging from wide plateau and valleys to deep caves and towering heights, covered in a thick blanket of snow. Located East of Farlkarth.

- Hikarna: Homeland of the Halflings, Hikarna is a hub of both magical and technological development. With amazing machines surpassing even what is present in Farlkarth, Hikarna is a three-dimensional maze of wonder and excitement - just the way Halflings like it. Requiring you to pass puzzles and riddles just to get to one place to another, it truly fits up to the name of "Puzzle-Box City". Located West of Farlkarth.

- Mark'dar'tharn: The hard-to-pronounce homeland of the Orcs and various other small imp-like creatures such as goblins, who are usually confined to slavery, is a large swampland with several hills that have sunk half-way into the muddy waters that are hollowed out and used as homes. The city itself is in a large valley in the middle, water held of by a ring of sturdier, rockier hills.

- The Desert of Crying Sand: A very large desert, which spans for larger areas than have been explored. It is named from a strange phenomenon that takes place at seemingly random times, when a random, strangely-coloured sand ranging from white to black will whip across the sands, hurl them up into the air and then descends upon a location, bringing any kind of fortune to those that are present in the sand from earning treasure to simply being cursed to die.

- Gaia's Breath: A large rainforest located at a sprouting root from the World Tree Gaia, located to the south-east of Dentharos. A mysterious yet wonderous area, filled with strange creatures and fauna ranging for miles. It is rumoured to be the resting ground for a long-forgotten race, but those myths have fallen into obscurity as time has passed.

- The Depths of the World: An endless cave system surrounding a massive hole, rumoured to head straight into the center of the world. Ominous noises constantly echo out of the hole - though whether they are from creatures or... something else... remains to be seen.

- The Magma Chamber: A large, under-the-sea city located below an active volcano slap bang in the middle of a sea created by hardened magma in a cylindrical shape which breaks the Desert of Crying Sand to Hikarna to the west. While a rather strange place, it is a popular tourist attraction. The only strange thing is that no one ever goes to the other islands surrounding it - they can, some want to, they just never do.

- The White Plains: What used to be a brilliant and bright field of endless grass is now a blank sheet of endless snow. Located far North of the central city, it is a strange place. While not exactly dangerous or spooky, it's simply just... strange.

- The Earth's Scar: A large cravace located in Dentharos, cutting into the ocean to the north-east, this is a large trench passing from a sliced-open mountain directly to the bottom of the sea. It seems strange, as it grows deeper like an impact as it goes into the ocean.

Other small locations can be created by players, with anything larger than a landmark or town being needed to be created by an admin. You are allowed to ask admins to create a location, but you must say why and how crucial to the story it will be.

MAGIC

Everyone has their own inner "store" of magic - much like how the common stories and myths go, with wizards using their own energy to cast powerful spells. However, in reality, only people who train for decades in magic actually have the power to cast spells like a storm of fire without having some form of external storage. Storage is primarily done by Runes, as Runes are simple to use, can be combined with enough experience and allow those who don't even use magic to simply channel a tiny bit of their energy into the rune to unleash a simple spell. Those who can simply form the spell with their mind, however, often use objects to store their excess power in - kind of like catching the overflow of their energy generation - such as staves or wands. Finally, for use in more technological objects, magic can be directly converted to a liquid form for use to generate power. Each person has a different effect when using magic - if you're inexperienced, you may just get a few sparks of a colour reflecting your personality, but a master may gain a large avatar reflecting their personality covering their body as they cast a powerful spell.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology varies greatly in complexity - people still use simple weapons like bows and arrows but objects such as basic computers and one-shot guns exist. Kind of like a steampunk world. One thing is present in every single technological advancement, however - magic. Magic, when stored in a liquid form, is used to power every single device. The only problem with this seemingly perfect system, requiring people to only give up a bit of calories each day - well, you'd need to eat around five times as much as usual if you wanted to power a modern-day home - is that many people are exploited to create energy. "Mana factories", as they are so called, are basically places where people go to, eat and stand still as their mana is drained. While this may sound cool - payment for basically doing nothing - this is where there is a lot of contreversy. Standards of treatment in these factories are very low, with people dying every day from exhaustion, factories often have very low wages, and finally these factories make being a wizard, for many, more trouble than it's worth - factories that dip below the law often offer bounties for high-generating individuals such as wizards. The most dangerous time in a wizard's life is when they are an apprentice - past theory and now under a master training to become fully-fledged, but not strong enough to protect themselves fully. However, for most people, all they need to do is channel some of their energy into a used cylinder, and they have more power - a near perfect life.

RULES

1) No Godmodding. Godmodding can be in various forms, but the most obvious is auto-hit and auto-dodge. One does not simply "stab you in the heart". You have to say "I swing my sword forwards, aiming for my valiant opponent's chest".

2) As seen above, be descriptive. While I'm not expecting everyone to be typing paragraphs for every post, try to post in moderation - if someone does a descriptive, two-paragraph dodge, then the least you can do is try to write at least one paragraph on continuing your assault.

3) No mary sues or gary sues. Everyone has flaws - no one can be perfect. If you're good at all kinds of weaponry, magic and stealth, then you'd be completely ignorant at common courtesy, diplomacy and social contact - you'd basically just be a mindless drone without a sense of direction. A better way would be to be reasonable in all areas, but be best in weaponry, magic and stealth - but not perfect, due to diversification, while your other areas would be worse.

4) Please try to ignore trolling and flaming. As the commonly used term goes, "don't feed the troll". However, if someone gives you a pointer, a warning or constructive critisism, don't ignore them and say "I don't care". They're pointing out something that you did wrong and giving you some ideas on how to improve it.

5) Put some effort into your posts and character sheet. Try to keep one-liners to a minimum.

6) No controlling major NPCs or other characters without their direct consent. If it comes to major NPCs, ask an admin or myself.

7) Players < Admins/Co-Owners < Owner. Simple. Listen to admins, and don't step out of line. A subtle, then explicit warning will occur, then a small ban will occur, and from then on bans will increase in length unless an admin thinks you have done something to redeem yourself.

8) Rules can, and likely will be added throughout the roleplay. No saying "but it's not on the list!" Ignorance is no excuse. In the "other" section, put your name backwards.

9) The reason for the lack of "personality" section in your character sheet is for you to develop your own personality as the roleplay goes on. It is so you don't have to limit yourself - if you were all broody in your character sheet then celebrate for a cool event, then that makes you look like an idiot. This way lets you fully flesh out your characters.

10) Have fun!

The light is slowly trickling in through the window. You are resting at an old friend's house - a half-elf like you, but half-denthran unlike. While similar, Denthrans are much, much smaller than dragons, and posses a poisonous bite.

What do you do?

You push open the golden door to your room, a few gears clunking as the bolts open. The bar is busy with activity, with many races within waking up and drinking. The in-keep looks over at you. "Hey there! You want anything before you go out?" He questions, just loud enough to be heard over the warming buzz of chatter.
