What's the point in praying for something that your god has already pre-destined to happen? Your god apparently only 'listens' to some prayers, so your chance of having your prayer 'answered' is 50/50. There's no point. Your god apparently knows what's best, so why try to compete with that? |

| I'm not trying to start a war, I'm just trying to reach out to opinions of people who do pray. |

| Assuming you'll listen to me, people pray because they are feeling lost, or are confused. Praying to God gives people hope. People pray usually not knowing exactly what will help them, so since God knows what's right, he does it. Interestingly, if a person prays for strength, they get more to hold. This helps because it teaches people that just having God take care of all their problems would make them lazier and would alter their character for worse. |

Good answer catman.
My point of view on that would be that people can't seem to grasp/face reality. They need something like a god in their lives to comfort them. When they pray, they think that everything is solved for now, and they no longer have to worry, because apparently they have 'put' everything in their god's hands. |

| Unfortunately, that is a good description of a lot of Christians. |

This is my response:
God listens to every prayer, but that doesn't mean he always does what you asks. He has a plan. But only he knows it. Yeah, that's been said a million times before. But wait, "pre-destined"? Okay I'm gonna go on a little bit of a shpeel (or however the heck you spell that) about fate, here. I get a little carried away sometimes, fair warning. ... You don't know what your fate is. Until life happens. Some people fight it, some people just roll with it. But since you don't know what your destiny is, it would be wise to do the best in this world before your time is out. If you let life just happen, you'll eventually realize that you're doing absolutely no good in the world.
Alright, I decided to spare yall a super long speech; I'm done |

| Some of the parts in "destiny" come from prayer. |

@tezkat,
"God listens to every prayer, but that doesn't mean he always does what you asks. He has a plan. But only he knows it. Yeah, that's been said a million times before."
I already pretty much made a statement about this question. Your god seems to only answer prayers when he wants to. In other words, you have about a 50/50 chance of your prayer being 'answered'. If your god knows what's best, then why pray? Why try to argue with a being that knows what's best for everybody? It's a waste of time.
Pre-destined means that something has been foreseen. In other words, your god has sought out what is to happen since 'the beginning of time'.
Anyway, our fate is indeed something we obviously cannot foresee, but we should make the best of it. I don't think it is wise spending our precious lives trying to convince ourselves that there is a hope. We need to grasp reality and face. I'm not saying you shouldn't pray, but just think, what good is that doing?

>Face it*
Also, I don't care whether or not you think this thread is 'stupid'. I just want opinions on people's belief systems so I can better understand where they're coming from. |

For reason of prayer, I'm going with hope. -time to get carried away, don't mind me....- Hope drives people on to go one more round when they wouldn't otherwise. Without hope, this world would be a desolate place of darkness and despair.
ooh, that alliteration
carry on
Nah, just kidding, I'm done
make the most of your life, blah blah blah, yay Sorry, feelin' a little halfhearted today る |
