What would you think of a game in Roblox that has a limited amount of users to alpha (or beta) test, and that you would have to pay to be one of them? However, when the game is at the stage of full-release, it would be free, but the players that paid for testing at an earlier stage would receive special rewards that players that joined at full-release would not get. Not to mention the privilege of being the first-and-only players of a game until it's full-release, and being responsible for shaping it to be the best it could be.

Sure, it's fine. Depending on the gametype and how you reward them.
I'd suggest only rewarding them with special cosmetic items since it looks like you're trying to make an MMORPG, but that's honestly your call.
Also, if the place is of fairly low quality, nobody will want to buy it to test it. Make sure you have it at a playable point before you start the tests. The main point of an alpha test is to test out the game for major bugs before you start tracking the stats of everyone playing it. Of course I don't think people who pay 25 R$ would want their stats wiped, but it sorta creates an environment where people are coming in to play for the first time and everyone is near max level/equips.
I'm not sure how you're doing your game, I don't know if you are copying rangescape or world of warcraft. However, I would not suggest a paid alpha/beta test if you're creating a rangescape clone. |

@row It's not really an RPG per-say. And no, it's not a copy of anything. I have tons of ideas built off of what me and my team would like to see in this type of game that we haven't gotten from any game of this genre yet (not saying what it is), and like I just referenced, it's not just me that's been developing this game. (Development has been going on since late-2013)
When alpha comes it will be at a semi-playable state. That is, some of the core features of the game will have been implemented, but we'd still have a long way to go.
As far as wipes go: I will make sure that people understand that they will serve as testers for a game that is in early-development and anything might change at any given time.
For rewards: Yeah, they will mostly be cosmetic, but I might throw in some non-game-breaking things as well. Something that instantly sets them above others but at the same time nothing that would ruin the game for them/others in the long-run. |
