Well, let's 'dissect' this simple question.
2/5... That's 0.4 right? Well, let's think about how you came to that conclusion.
If you can't divide 2 by 5 directly, you would 1/5 * 2.
Just repeat that process, except with 0.4 instead of 1, and you have the answer.

You need the actual sum before you can get the variable.
For example,
1x+3=8
So, just subtract three from eight, divide by one (although it's pretty obvious, duh,) and you have your answer.
But the way you wrote it,
1x+3
See? No sum to perform any operation on! You just have the equation. Can't do it that way. |
