The Official Manual of FSA

Prologue – Welcome to The Federal States of America

Hello and welcome, soldier. I am Javier, one of your Lieutenant Generals in FSA.

If you are reading this guide, it is because you have decided to become a loyal and freedom fighting soldier in the great FSA. By reading this guide, you will be ensuring future promotions for yourself. If you wish to get promoted, you must read this guide and abide by its rules.

This guide aims to inform soldiers of what is required of them within the group, as well as to impart upon them important group information. Reading this guide is required and necessary.

Chapter 1 – The Union Army (FSA)

In the current American Civil War, the Union is the term used to refer to the United States of America, and specifically to the national government and the 20 free states and five border slave states which support it. The Union is opposed by 11 southern slave states that have declared a secession to join together to form the Confederacy. The Union is often referred to as "the North", as opposed to "the South." The Union won’t recognize the legitimacy of secession and at all times hold that it comprise the entire United States of America. In foreign affairs it is recognized by all other states, none of which officially recognize the Confederate government. The Union Army is the land force that fight for the Union. It consist of the small United States Army (the regular army), augmented by massive numbers of units supplied by the Northern states, composed of volunteers as well as conscripts. The Union Army will defeat the smaller Confederate States Army during the war, which won’t last much. Our motto: “Union and Liberty.” About 180,000 died from all causes at the moment; some 140,000 were wounded.

Chapter 2 – Rules

This part of the guide is to tell you the expected behavior within the group, as well as to tell you some easy tricks and tips on how to get promoted!

A good soldier in FSA must listen to his or her officer.

1. Follow all orders from soldiers of officer rank (Second Lieutenant+) without question. This means that when an officer gives you an order, you say "Yes, sir!" and nothing else. If there's anything that's sure to make an officer angry, it's seeing a soldier say "..." after they're given an order. Do not be passive aggressive. Just follow orders without question. Following orders is a sure way to get you promoted.

2. Be in uniform! When at Fort Lyon, you are always considered on duty. There is no grey area. Either take the uniform in the padd or leave. Failure to comply will result in demotion. Being in uniform at all times, even when not at Fort Lyon, is a sure way to impress me and your officers.

3. Patrol! Showing up to patrol the fort is always a good thing. It may be boring if you're alone, but believe me, stick with it. The more people that come to patrol, the more fun it will be. Having people patrol our maps shows that we are an active group and brings in visitors to join us. Patrolling is the single best thing you can do for our group. Plus, any MR+ can hold official trainings to get you promoted! (but if you are in a MR you must ask for permission to hold a training. If so ask for an HR to join the server for admin.) It's much easier to host a training when the men are already there patrolling. You wouldn't want to miss out on a promotion, would you? Good! Then patrol!

4. Be kind and courteous to visitors, allies, and enemies. Why be kind to enemies, you ask? It shows that we are a mature group that handles war and other such engagements like gentlemen. During the Civil War era, being a gentleman was just about the most important thing you could do. Showing that we are mature will cause people join us, because they know that we're a professional group. Additionally, if you really want to make an enemy angry, you will act intelligently and reserved. There's nothing an idiot (or a troll) hates more than someone who won't give them a good reaction. Remember that when dealing with visitors, allies, and enemies, you are representing our group. If you can't do that in a mature way like I described above, then keep quiet. There's nothing a HR hates more than having their negotiations sabotaged by a ticked off soldier.

5. Respect your fellow FSA troops! They, just like you, joined this group to be part of a powerful group of people all dedicated to the same cause. By causing arguments or insulting other members, you are tearing apart the very fabric of this group. Insulting group mates (or visitors, allies, or enemies for that matter) can easily result in demotion or banishment. It's not hard. Remember the golden rule: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

6. Use official terms! Use terms such as Sir or Ma'am when addressing your officers.

7. Be aware that you are always being watched by people of higher ranks when you are at our forts. Do not try to break rules or protocol. You will not get away with it. If you witness somebody breaking rules, report it to me or an HR the immediately! But do not say something that is not clear like “Javier was AAing". I need context. All reports should have a full story of what happened.

8. Do not ask for promotions. This can not be stressed enough! Why is this a rule? Because asking for a promotion proves that all you're interested in promotions. If all you want is promotions, walk away and join another group right now! In FSA, we expect our soldiers to have a real desire to better the nation and become the best Civil War group on Roblox. This does not include you becoming second in command. That isn't to say that you can’t become second in command, because you definitely can. Just follow the protocol for promotions and you're sure to reach one of the highest ranks in this group!

9. Use grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Again, very important. This shows that our members are not only skilled; they are intelligent. This also means that you should refrain from using internet slang such as lol, omg, ty, etc.

10. Become a real part of the group! Converse with people about the group on the group walls, show up to group places very often, and even do some research of FSA! It never hurts to learn more about the role you are playing in-game.

11. No matter what, you will never team kill. Chances are if you do it, you will be caught and either demoted or exiled. Even if you want to get the most kills on your team for a promotion, team killing is not the answer. Work hard and increase your aim to shoot raiders.

Chapter 3 – Promotions

So, you want a promotion? Please, just spam my inbox with requests. Oh wait, don’t.

Remember, you don't "deserve" a promotion. You are not "owed" a promotion. Your officers will give them out as they see fit. If you have a problem with the way the officers promote, take it up with me, not them.

Asking for promotions is strictly forbidden! It will even result in demotion. So, play it safe, and don’t ask.

Chapter 4 – Officers

An officer is anyone who is a 2nd Lieutenant or higher. This is a short list of requirements for FSA officers. Your responsibilities, of course, go far beyond these. These, however, are the basic necessities.

1. Obey orders. Just because you're a MR+ doesn't mean you're above orders. Anyone higher rank than you is your superior and must be treated as such.

2. Respect the men. Do not be a tyrant. Just because you're an officer, that doesn't mean you're better than the men. Remember, you were once one of them! If a soldier messes up an order, do not berate and humiliate them. Be stern, but not aggressive. Ask them whether they know the order, and if not, teach them. Never use admin commands to fling soldiers who make mistakes. The only exception is “:punish”. This is a nonlethal and nonrestrictive way to get them out and to embarrass them just enough to try harder next time.

3. Do not hand out demotions and exiles left and right! It's hard enough to get promoted. Don't cause soldiers to desert by demoting them every time they make a comment, break a rule, or screw up miserably. Simply tell them that they're receiving a warning and if the behavior continues, it is punishable by demotion or exile. Simple as that.

4. Lead by example! Officers are expected to be far more mature than regular members. If you're not behaving maturely, you will be demoted without hesitation. Immature behavior includes, but is not limited to: Spam, AA, excessive use of force, insulting people, and other non-mature things. If you're not sure whether it's mature or not, simply don't do it. It's probably not. Also, do not use admin commands unless necessary. Silly commands like :music and :loopfling are very immature and will result in demotion. Also, :gear is the most forbidden command in this group. Giving yourself gear that is not already in the starterpack will definitely result in demotion. Don't be stupid. Just don't do it.

5. Patrol and host trainings! This is your number one responsibility! One man alone cannot host fifty trainings every week, he just will not have the time. It is the job of FSA's officers to know the commands and host several trainings every week. If you do not know the commands, watch a training and take notes. Do not train the men if you are not 100% sure that you know every single command perfectly (that includes wording). Remember, being active at the fort, and more importantly, hosting trainings, is the ONLY way to keep getting promoted as an officer! Hosting trainings as an officer is equivalent to attending them as a soldier. Just do it!

Chapter 5 - Trainings

The following is a list of orders and protocol that should be covered in every training. Learn them, live them, breathe them.

First, some basic terminology and information:

1. Firing Line. The firing lines are the predetermined formation that we use in the battlefield. In a firing line, each soldier must touch his shoulders with the shoulders of the soldiers in his right and left side. Also, there are different ranks, one rank means a single row of soldiers, two ranks means two rows, it’s really simple and obvious. We won’t use more than two ranks because a three ranks formation or a four ranks formation isn’t effective in combat. You must remember the following information like you remember your name and believe me, I am not joking, learn this:

First, in the firing line, the first officer leading the firing line (usually Captains, first in command of the firing line) must be in a side of the firing line and the second officer (usually First Lieutenants, second in command of the firing line) must stand next to the officer commanding the firing line. If the first officer commanding the firing line die in action, the second officer will take the command of the firing line but while the first officer stay alive, the second officer will only help with the discipline in the firing line.

Second, in the firing line, the soldier next to the second officer is the soldier number one, the next soldier, is number two, the next, number one, and so on until the end of the other side, where is the third in command of the firing line (usually Second Lieutenants) if the line is really large and if he is necessary. It’s a good advice keep the volunteers and the pioneers (numbers 2) in the first rank and the soldiers with more experience, in the second rank (numbers 1). If the current leading Officer say “2 ranks!”, that means he wants change the actual line into two rows, so, then, numbers 1 will move behind numbers 2 and numbers 2 will crouch, the officers always will stand in the first rank and they will crouch too, however, the current officer leading the firing line won’t crouch, that’s the way how the soldiers can know who is leading the firing line, the officer standing up in the first rank is the officer commanding the firing line, easy as that, so, pay attention. In the battlefield, we usually use 2 ranks formations if we are in an open field, but, if we got cover, like a small wall or something that covers half of our body, then we will use one rank. You must know your number in the line, and if you don’t know which one is, just count starting from the second officer.

One rank:

C 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 B A

Two ranks:

C 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 B A
1 1 1 1 1 1 1

A: First commanding officer of the firing line. (Captain)
B: Second commanding officer of the firing line. (First Lieutenant)
C: Third commanding officer of the firing line. (Second Lieutenant)
1: Experienced soldiers. (Corporals+)
2: Non-experienced soldiers. (Volunteers and Pioneers)

Note: The ranks between the parentheses are the ranks recommended in each place of the firing line although it doesn’t mean that is really necessary that each part of the line must have that specific rank.

2. Shoulder To Shoulder: This is essentially the previous firing line. So, when your commanding officer says “Shoulder To Shoulder”, form a shoulder to shoulder line facing him (one rank). Officers may also say "STS". This means the same thing.

3. Ranks. During a training, you may hear the word ranks. This is not ranks in the sense of group positions. Ranks are rows of men in firing lines. So, if your officer says two ranks, he wants there to be in two lines of men, one behind the other, I have explained it before.

4. Permission To Speak. Always ask this before blurting something out in line. Speaking in line is forbidden! Also, if it's not important to this specific training, simply don't say it at all. You're wasting everyone else's time. (PTS)

5. Single File Line. This does not mean Shoulder to Shoulder line. This means get in a single file line, one behind the other, like you're lining up for a meal. (SFL)

6. Don’t get BRB or AFK. In a middle of the training, this one of the most disrespectful things that you can do. If you have something really important to go BRB or AFK, then ask before leaving the firing line. Keep in mind that if you go BRB or AFK, you can miss an important part of the training even if you come back as soon as possible. In that case, you will have to redo the training, so, don’t forget it, don’t go AFK or BRB!

Second, some basic rules for officers:

1. Do not overdo punishment.

2. Act professionally.

3. Do not stray from routines listed in this guide.

4. Do not promise promotions or recommendations. It is recommended that you do not tell everyone who did/didn't get recommended. It could upset some people.
Now, things that will be covered during training:

1. Firing Line Training

The following orders will be used by the officer of the line, memorize them:

- Faces and Inclines are orders given by the commanding officer that signify which direction you should turn. About Face means turn around 180 degrees. Center Face means face your commanding officer. Left Face and Right Face are 90 degree left and right turns respectively. Inclines are very similar to faces. They are 45 degrees half-faces. The only inclines are Left Incline and Right Incline. We don’t use Turns.

- Wheels and Obliques are orders given by the commanding officer that signify which direction the whole firing line should turn (not each soldier). It’s easier than it looks, but you must read carefully. Right Wheels means that the whole firing line turn 90 degrees to the right. The soldier in the right end just face the right and then the rest of the firing line, move to his left. Left Wheel means that the whole firing line turns 90 degrees to the left. The soldier in the left end just face the left and the rest of the firing line, move to his right. Obliques are 45 degrees half-wheels. The only obliques are Left Oblique and Right Oblique.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Shoulder Arms, it means you must take your gun out of the firing position and rest it on your right shoulder. To do this, hit F.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Present Arms, it means you should be holding your musket in the firing position. To do so, hit F again.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Port Arms, that means he wants your musket to be held across your torso. To do this, hit N. This is used when patrolling or marching.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Prepare Volley, that means he wants you to perform an action called "a firing volley". The point of this method of firing is for all of the soldiers to fire at the exact same time. It doesn't need to be perfect, but it should be close. When firing off a volley, the commanding officer will tell you “Prepare Volley” (this command is to let you know that you're about to fire a volley), then “Make Ready” (this means pick a target and aim to it, hit E), and then “Fire” (this one is self explanatory).

- When a commanding officer gives the order Fire at Will, that means he wants you to perform an action called "Fire at Will". The orders are the same as volley fire. You will hear "Fire at Will”, then “Make Ready”, and then “Fire”. However, after that command, you will then reload and fire over and over again as fast as you can until you hear the order “Cease Fire”. Then you will stop firing.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Prepare Ripple that means he wants you to perform an action called "Ripple Fire". Ripple fire is where, starting from one end of the line, soldiers fire on after another. Only one person should be firing at a time. The ripple will start from the side that the officer is standing on. Ripple fire won’t be used in a battle.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Fix Bayonets that means put your bayonet on. Use B to do this. When the order unfix bayonets is given, that means take your bayonet off. Again, use B to do this. With bayonet equipped, use Q to stab and X to bash.

Important: Always listen your commanding officer. There is a little big difference between Auto Reload and Reload In Command. Bayonets fixed or not, it doesn’t matter, listen your commanding officer soldier! Also, don’t forget, soldiers must auto reload if the officer doesn’t say “Reload In Command”.

- When a commanding officer gives the order to Prepare Charge, that means he wants you to get ready to charge the enemy with your musket only. Do not use swords or flintlocks. Use your musket's bayonet. Once the order of Prepare Charge is given, your officer will then say “Charge!” When the war-cry is given, charge. When the order of Retreat is given, return to your line position.

- When a commanding officer gives the command to Prepare March, this means you are about to start marching. He will then say “Forward March”. This means follow the person in front of you in a marching line. Do not stray from the line or you will mess everything up. To stop the men, the officer will say “Halt”.

- When an officer says “Order Arms”, it means he wants you to put all weapons away. Do not take a weapon out until it is ordered.

- When a commanding officer says “Permission to speak is in effect”, that means you cannot speak without asking "Permission to speak, sir?". (PTS)

2. Line Battles.

After the Firing Line Training, the officers will test the soldiers dividing them into two firing lines and making each firing line fight the other one. The Officers will oversee the battle and help the soldiers with their firing lines. At the end of this part, the soldiers will be ready and anxious for a real battle.

3. Swordplay.

Every good training ends in practice sword fights. There are no commands for this, but it must be covered. Practice makes perfect!

Chapter 6 – Admins

This section is focused in the admin rules, which are the following ones and you shouldn’t never forget if you don’t want to get demoted:

- Banned Commands. Nobody can’t use them, for example:

:music
:gear
:disco
:invisible
:fling

And others useless commands, you know which are the useless ones, and if you don’t know or you doubt of a command, just don’t use it.

- Not Recommended Commands. Use them as last resort or for a training and ask a HR before using them:

:fly
:btools
:name
:sword

- High Ranks Commands. Only High Ranks can use them:

:tp
:m
:pm
:kick
:ban

- Allowed Commands. Admins can use them but only if they are necessary:

:h
:punish
:respawn

It’s strictly forbidden abuse of admin or spam with :h or :m and :h if for important messages, don’t use :h to talk with someone, if you want to talk with someone, walk to him, don’t be lazy. Also, don’t forget, if you see an Officer abusing, you must record him and then, report him to a General. Admin abusers will be demoted or even exiled without mercy

Don’t doubt, if they are abusing, record them and report them to me. If you help us reporting to me the admin abusers, you will get a reward, I promise.

Chapter 7 – Divisions

Here you will find a little description of our current divisions although each one have a big history behind them that you will easily find searching them in wikipedia. If you want join in a division, send a PM to the Regimental Commander or wait for a tryouts and pass them. What division is for you?

1. The Federal States Marine Corps

The Federal States Marine Corps are the naval force and they wear the black uniform. They use the Federal States Ship (FSS) Johnson for their naval operations. The Marines support the regular troops with naval artillery support from the sea. Their main objective is the control of the sea, that means they must keep the sea clear of enemy ships and also, they are useful in the blockade duty, causing much damage to the enemy due they are immobilized. Their main skill is the teamwork and the ship battles in where they are experts.

2. The Federal States Rangers

The Federal States Rangers are the recon main force and our sharpshooters, they wear the green uniform. Their main objective is maintain the Captains and the Lieutenants leading the lines informed about the combat progress and also, they keep the line soldiers safe detecting enemy ambushes and snipers. Their main skill is the long distant combat and their fast reflexes.

3. The Federal States Zouaves

The Federal States Zouaves are French light Infantry and they wear red leggings. They are famous because they are skilled mercenaries. Their main objective is damage the enemy with their skirmish operations and ambushes. They use light infantry tactics that emphasise open-order formations, with several feet between soldiers, rather than the customary close order, also they move at double time, rather than marching at a stately cadence, and they crouch to load their rifles rather than standing to do so. To fire they rose on one knee. Their main skill is the guerrilla warfare and their improvised tactics.

4. The Federal States Balloon Corps

The Federal States Balloon Corps are our special recon force and they wear brown boots. They use Anabella and Alice, the hot air balloons with a telegraph key set in each one, they keep the Generals informed about the enemy positions and the battle progress from the air. The Balloon Corps are a multitask force, because their main objective is not only the reconnaissance, they are useful in miscellaneous operations, like bombardment, for example, where they drop grenades from the balloons to cause high damage in the valuable enemy positions, like artillery places or even the enemy HQ. Their main skill is the discipline and the teamwork.

5. The Federal States Artillery

Coming soon.

Final Chapter – Welcome to the FSA

Wait, it's that easy? Am I a soldier of FSA now?

Yes, it's that easy. Just abide by these rules, standards, and codes and be knowledgeable in all the information here, and you will be a officer in no time. This guide is essentially a cheat sheet for promotions. Remember to check back in on it every once in awhile to make sure you're keeping up to the FSA standards!

(My apologies for grammar mistakes, I am not English, also, thanks to everyone who is helping me reading and giving me ideas)
