That apparently bans the import of most semi automatic rifles made overseas. It was done under the first Bush in 1989 and apparently not a lot of people are aware of it. Basically it means semi automatic rifles made overseas cannot be imported, but there are loopholes. One of them are having all/most of the parts made overseas, and the rifle itself is finished in the US after it is shipped here. It is also a reason why a lot of the popular Kalashnikov rifles are getting more and more expensive.
Do you think they should repeal the ban? I think they should, since the price of a lot of guns would drop significantly, because of the cheaper manufacturing overseas. But then again, the common argument(s) might be, "It's not supporting American job growth" or "You don't know how safe the gun could be."
What do you think? |

A) this will never be repealed B) my friend uses the loopholes so he has imported semi-automatic weapons.

@icrazy A) It could if we get more pro-gun people in federal office B) But the loopholes still make the guns expensive than they would be if the ban did not exist |

In the states we shouldn't even NEED a pro-gun movement. It's sad that we do.
Where's the anti-knives, anti-chemicals, and anti-fists movements? Or even the Gun Education movement. |

| The media is also part of the problem too, they've made the people relatively afraid of guns in the past few decades. |

"The pro-gun movement is growing day by day, and eventually they will HAVE to listen" And then someone shot up a movie theater, elementary school, navy yard, and a mall.

All done by people with mental issues or something wrong with their brain Cause most normal people don't think, "Hey, I'm going to kill a lot of people today for no reason!" |

Meanwhile a mass stabbing occurs. I don't hear the people crying out for the ban of knives. |

I know but, (and let me be quite clear I support gun rights) those types of things scare people and give the government excuses.

the anti-gun movement is growing just as quickly, if not more so.

I've noticed that it's starting to decline. It reached its peaked in late 2012 early 2013 |

If there is an import ban, why was my brother's friend able to get his hands on an AK-47 shipped from Russia?
I live in the USA. |

It's probably the parts that get shipped and assembled in some factory in the South, and the finished product is shipped to you. That or your brother has very good connections :)
I know it was reported on in some newspapers (Just search Bush Semi Automatic Ban on google) on the internet (Which are only one or two, because the internet wasn't that popular back in the day).
A lot of gun channels that talk about rifles always mention "pre-ban" stuff. |

Anti-Gun arguments are so weak that it's useless for the liberals to even talk about it anymore. Now the liberal party is using the "The debate is over" tactic in their political views. Not to mention how stupid America looks now after getting somewhat involved in Russia's business. |

| I have an AK-47, an SKS, and a Mosin Nagant so I know you can still get guns from Russia. Actually, the SKS is Chinese, but still. |
