Why is it a theory? It is not a complex system of ideas, it's just one explanation.
Why isn't it a law?

@Pakes: In oversimplified terms: Creationists don't believe in evolution. Creationists believe in godly healing. Atheists believe in evolution. They accept modern medicine. Creationists do not.
@Mycro: Go on Youtube and type in "I'm just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock before you read this.
Oh, just pretend that the theory as fact. Do you know how many things that the whole scientific community does to make something into a theory? So when another aspiring scientist comes along, and proves it false. Agree with him. |

| it is proven. it happened and is still happening. it is, without a doubt, a real thing. that is precisely what theory means. in science, a theory is a fact. |

A theory is something that has been confirmed by many scientists testing it, but it still could possibly be disproven.
I assume the reason it isn't solid fact is because of the controversial part stating we all originally came from single celled organisms. The main part about "animals adapt to their environments" is pretty solid. As a Christian, my personal belief is God created an original "set" of animals, and over time they evolved further and further away from the originals to better suit their environments, leading to the massive amount of diversity we have today. I don't think evolution goes all the way back to the point of single celled organisms being the only type of life, then grouping together into colonies and evolving over time to become animals. |

@evil
he means evolution should be a scientific law. it will remain a theory because, while theories are fact, they can be slightly altered. by this i do not mean they can entirely change, but they can be added on to. |

@0z0ne
actually, all evidence points to evolution. if that wasnt the case, itd be a hypothesis. for something to be "promoted" to a theory, it must be proven by evidence repeatedly. |

| its quite the opposite. literally all evidence points to evolution. ive yet to find any "holes" in the theory. |

| simply because humans may not have a complete understanding of something isnt enough of a reason to doubt it. we know very little about anything, really, but that mentality will get us nowhere. as for natural selection, it is what allows evolution to take place. it is very much a part of the process. i understand that you may not want to declare it to be 100% true yet. to be fair, no one can say anything is 100% true. but in that case, nothing is proven and nothing can ever be proven. that is just pointless in my opinion. there is a certain point at which i think we should be able to declare something a fact based on what we know. |

Newton's laws regarding gravity are equally as much a 'law' as evolution. The only reason as to why evolution has been taking a dump from creationists- is because it goes against their nonsensical belief system.
