Read the Divine Comedy. You may find yourself more adept at explaining heaven, hell, purgatory, and the like afterward.

It is a classical epic poem written by Dante Alighieri. It is about a man name Virgil's descent through hell, then into Purgatory, and finally through Paradisio (heaven). You may have heard of Dante's Inferno. That is the first part of the poem, and the best known.
I would recommend reading the entire Divine Comedy some time. It is a wonderful book, although like all epic poems in my experience it is a tad difficult to get into. I have a nice leather bound copy with pictures,
