I have used Suse Studio, it's really, really, easy to use.
List of OS's I've made with it:
GraphicsKoala 32-bit x86 -------------- CommandKoala 32-bit x86 -------------- NetworkFTPKoala 0.0.1 32-bit x86 --------------
All Linux. |

Dual boot
Completely free
Risk free
Only downside is that you have to sign in through one of those services:
Novell, Twitter, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and OpenID. |

| 50%, If you have Windows 7 or XP, you should be able to hold 2 OS's at once, Virtual Machine is recommended tho. |

Are you meaning Virtual machine exactly?
There is a test drive for an operating system you making in Suse, although It will take like 8 minutes for a graphical OS. |

Yea, Tul, If you got things step up on Virtual Box (The only one I use), you should simple steps like this:

And then the window should pop up, you'll need to adjust the screen size in the virtual machine for a good full screen. |

You're not making an operating system at all. You're just changing the themes of the Suse operating system.
Making an operating system takes months and requires an incredibly vast knowledge and understanding of computers. |

Elsa is more than correct. But it doesn't take months, it can take years. |

| Ouen also makes a point, as with NT operating systems. |

Depends on how good you want it. I don't think MikeOS took years. :P |

"How long did BASIC programmed MikeOS take?"
What the hell? You can't program an operating system in BASIC! MikeOS was written in x86 Assembly.
