personally i think gta 4 is the best grand theft auto. i think all the others are just way too gimmicky (which isnt bad, they are very fun gameplay wise) but when i play a game i like to engage in a very well written story, and gta 4 really had that story and character development. you the player who starts as a fresh off the boat immigrant in a city where everyone is after the same thing, fighting off lonesharks to save your cousin from brutal beatings, soon work your way up to a hired mafia gunmen and getting involved with some of the biggest crime families in the city.
great game, sorry for the wordwall but i really dont feel like gta 4 gets the appreciation it deserves, sure theres not as much to do after you beat the game, but the main story alone has the average player clocking 20 - 30 hours on, not to mention the stranger missions and optional work. |

gta v wins in gameplay, easily
vice city in setting
san andreas in story
gta iv in character development
the rest are crap
end of story |

@xvertile
tell me how in THE HELL and other game had outmatched it
iv was pretty cool, of course, but gta v is much deeper than any sandbox has ever been. they have gotten everything to the smallest detail, working like a giant machine over like a really big area.
online wasn't the best thing but it is better than not having it at all. (iv multiplayer was crap as well)
they had money to spread around
they did it very well |

| It's my opinion, I'd rather play GTA: San Andreas over GTA V any day. |

driving sucked AI sucked stealth sucked characters sucked trying too hard to make characters that of such off a TV drama there is nothing to do after you finish the game or nothing fun to do at least the game basically felt like it was just prepping up for the multiplayer and that sucked too |

"driving sucked"
it was actually quite realistic and fun though, it wasn't as slidey and obnoxious as iv's and worked better than the 'SMASH THROUGH EVERYTHING WITHOUT A SINGLE DENT OR LOSS OF MOMENTIUM' saints row mentalitiy
"ai sucked"
i agree with this
"stealth sucked"
i don't see whats wrong with the stealth, the sneaking is solid, (not metal-gear tier but it doesn't really need to be)
the cover system kinda sucked though honestly. (shooty, cover, shooty, cover, sprint to next wall, shooty)
"the characters sucked"
were we not on the topic of gameplay
"drama blah blah"
gameplay |

ive only played gta v all the way through and ive only really seen gameplay of the other ones (though i can now play through vice city b/c i bought it in the R* sale on the ps3) but ive heard great things about niko in particular even if the rest of the game was apparently a bit crap
also i wouldn't call gta v's characters 'bad' as such just ludicrously underdeveloped like by the time they've all been introduced and are working together and the whole story really kicks off franklin is the fairly pessimistic straight man who just wants to live a normal life, michael is the short tempered rich dude with so many family issues that he acts more like a father to his friends than his family, and trevor is trevor. at the end of the story franklin is the fairly pessimistic straight man who just wants to live a normal life but with a bigger house, michael is the short tempered rich dude with so many family issues that he acts more like a father to his friends than his family but he doesn't shout at them so much, and trevor is trevor but with more money
also should i get gta iv in the r* sale for like 50% off (it ends either today or tomorrow i think) or is it not worth it |

@hot vgf is pretty pointless but this is indeed ot
also i admittedly preffered vc and sa to iv or v guess the whole gritty realism type thing the gtas are going for doesn't appeal to me as much as the older games funnier type of things |

GTA IV is pretty good, but the online is awful due to all the hackers. V's online is pretty terrible too, because tanks everywhere. |
