you guys shout "OMG FLAIMBAIT AAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Evolution is just an observable phenomena. It's like me making a thread about gravity and you people going "OMG FLAIMBAIT REPORTED".
Seriously, I've made threads related to evolution without any religious reference anywhere whatsoever within them and then you people start getting upset.

Evolution is the gasoline that fuels flamewars. The religious people (Like me) are simply a match, ready to burn.
So you can't dump gasoline all over the house and then say "I'm not trying to burn it down!" |

it wouldn't be gasoline if more than a dozen people on OT could tell the difference between a flame war and a discussion

But evolution has nothing to do with religion. Evolution in itself is just an observable process. Even when it comes to the scientific study of it, being Evolution Theory, plenty of religious people still believe in that as well.
In fact, studies show that most Christians are intelligent enough to accept Evolution Theory.
This is more about conspiracy theory than being religious. |

| I'd say threads that are about Christianity are more prone to starting a flame war. |

@elsa
if you discussed evolution on a bill nye forum website, thats not gonna start a flamewar
if you discussed evolution on a childrens building website, there are likely to be religious people wanting to argue |

"source"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level_of_support_for_evolution
["Molleen Matsumura of the National Center for Science Education found, of Americans in the twelve largest Christian denominations, at least 77% belong to churches that support evolution education (and that at one point, this figure was as high as 89.6%)."] ["2000 poll for People for the American Way found 70% of the American public felt that evolution was compatible with a belief in God."]
"anything religious or anything counterreligious is flamebait content, whether its a discussion or not"
Evolution is neither religious nor counterreligious. Obviously it's not religious because it's a natural phenomena incapable of thought. It's not counter-religious because evolution/Evolution Theory and religion are not mutually exclusive. |

"So you can see fish turn into lizards before your very eyes?"
How is that relevant to evolution? Evolution is the change in allele frequencies over time.
We have observed on countless occasions species changing into other species.
This isn't even debatable. It's simply fact. It's been proven by every single goddamn branch of science that denying it now is just absurd.
It's as stupid as denying Gravitational Theory or denying the Holocaust. |

hell no evolution is a process that can take hundreds of years for even the slightest aesthetic change to take place if you're studying with nothing but your eye, anyway

Yes. Scientists will agree with you on that. Fish don't randomly turn into lizards.
Because that has nothing to do with Evolution Theory at all.

i didn't say they did other person did fish wouldn't turn into lizards unless they were forced to adapt to a less water-abundant environment even then it would take lots of generations of fish/lizards or whatever the hell before they're well suited to their environment from what I understand, anyway

I don't think we should be debating on if it exists or not, which it obviously does; with natural selection over such a long period of time, comes evolution.
But I think what is legitiment grounds fora debate with be how it all STARTED. And when. I don't believe that everything simple became without, well a creator. But I till see how natural selection has caused some changes in animal species--I plan on educating myself immensely in science, plus I'm religious, so I want to know much about both. |
