Tesla became obsessed with wireless power transfer and even built a massive tower to test if the earth could be used as a conductor to transfer power through it.
He also claimed to have powered 200 lightbulbs from 26 miles away. Essentially by transferring the power through the earth.
Sadly, Nikola Tesla did not record most of his inventions while in Colorado Springs. Only basic calculations and photos of his most basic setup still exist.
No one's been able to replicate this to date. |

Interesting.
Nikola Tesla was probably one of my favorite inventors/scientists of all time. |

Did you know the image of the "Mad Scientist" was derived from him and his cameo in a Superman's "The Mad Scientist".
His public image was tarnished later in life when became increasingly eccentric. |

"Tesla became obsessed with wireless power transfer and even built a massive tower to test if the earth could be used as a conductor to transfer power through it."
The tower was shut down because it was classified as a "Weapon of Mass destruction" but in reality it could progress scientific research on energy at the time enough to have free electricity all around the globe. Some people say private energy companies made the government shut it down so electricity would still be a business.
forgot from where I read this from |

No, Ouendan, that isn't true. The tower was actually originally constructed to transfer information wirelessly across the Atlantic ocean. It was funded by banker JP Morgan with $100,000.
Tesla chose to use electricity rather than the radio he already invented because Tesla his ultimate plan with the tower was to essentially fill the atmosphere with electricity so anyone anywhere could draw power from it with a simple coil.
However, Marconi pretty much stole many of Tesla's patents and perfected it. Because the radio was a much cheaper way of transferring information than the expensive electrical system Tesla envisioned, JP Morgan lost hope in Tesla and pulled his funding after Tesla requested more money.
Then the economic crash hit.
Tesla's tower was torn down simply because he did not have any money to keep it up. |

| By "perfected it" I mean Marconi perfected the radio using Tesla's designs. |
