| That's still completely wrong, all cores of the FX 8350 run at the same 4.0 GHz base clock and you do NOT add them up in any situation. |

All I gathered from this is FD is a total idiot, and Zang is an idiot also.
"1. Ditch that SSD." NO NO NO. Having games on your SSD is the greatest thing since ever. I hardly even have load times anymore!
"2. RAM. Don't get 16 GB. 8 Is all you need." More RAM on an APU is better. You also should be getting 1866 for LGA 1150 and AMD APUs
"3. Extra CPU fans. Don't get these, get thermal paste instead. Using thermal paste is a much cheaper and more quiet solution."
MORE THERMAL PASTE IS WORSE FOR COOLING. OH MY GOD ARE YOU STUPID?!
"4. On the CPU, go AMD if you're low on money. An FX 6300 costs ~120 dollars, and will run games fine, given that you have other good hardware to support it. Just be sure to get a motherboard that supports AMD CPUs."
You mean get an AM3+ Socket with a 990 chipset, stupid.
5. Don't get that fancy case. Some cases are very affordable, and don't have to look good to make your games run well. Gaming isn't a fashion contest. |

And as for you, FD
You know nothing about a CPU, you blundering idiot. By your incredibly crap logic my i5 4670k running at 4.6 ghz on all four cores will be running 18.4 ghz.
That is wrong.
You are a complete idiot. |

now this is how you build a budget gaming PC without it actually sucking-
if you live near a microcenter, use them to buy a cpu or a cpu/motherboard combo. you can use in store pickup to buy a cpu at prices you will never see in online retailers. cpu/motherboard combos are even better. sometimes, you can get a cpu and a free motherboard.
skip CPU overclocking. many say its a "free" way to increase performance, but it isnt free at all, really. you have to get an aftermarket cooler at least, and you might have to get a better (and more expensive) motherboard than what you were originally planning to use. also, if you want to buy Intel, you have to get a -K model which is around $20 more costlier than a normal model.
If your system currently uses DDR3 RAM, recycle it in the new build so you would only have to buy a 4GB kit to have 8GB of RAM or so.
Get one stick of 4GB RAM if you cant really afford 8gb right now. 8GB is nice, but 4gb isnt really that bad for gaming. See if you are ok with 4gb of RAM and add another stick of 4gb of RAM if you aren't.
its okay to get an "okay" GPU. i would invest with the more permanent parts (CPU, Motherboard, PSU) than a GPU first. you might not ever replace those parts so it makes more sense to make sure those are up to scratch before the GPU becuase a GPU is easy to replace and it doesnt hold its performance or value for very long.
last but not least, know what you are going to use your PC for. 16gb of ram and a 4770K is a waste if you are just gaming. for example, I play older games that celebrate CPU performance and i dont care for having everything maxed out, so I personally will invest more in my CPU than my GPU. |

@Zang
A few extra seconds to get into a game.
Around a minute less of boot time.
An SSD will set you back 50 dollars for a cheap one, and really, it's worth the cost. -- You still haven't fessed up to being absolutely wrong about thermal paste and fans. |

@Zang Sure. You can get a 50 dollar SSD that holds 60gb (25 goes to OS.) or alternately, for 69 you can get a 120gb SSD. Well worth it if you ask me --- @Cool "skip CPU overclocking. many say its a "free" way to increase performance," My friend has a 4770k overclocked to 4.2ghz on the stock cooler. CPU overclocking is free performance, and if you have an AMD FX processor, you unlock even more.
Plus for 15 bucks you can get a cheap heatsink. Seriously. You should be buying that anyway.

he must have a lucky chip. not everyone is that lucky; yesterday I was reading a thread on ocnet about a guy who couldnt get his 4770k past 4.2GHz or so without putting the voltage at or above 1.4V. he also had to spend money on a Z87 chipset over a H87 and a 4770K over a 4770, or even an E3-1245 V3.
just for around 1-4 FPS the investment just isnt worth it in a >budget< build. its cool if you can just bump up the clocks a little from the stock cooler but any setup past that can be better spent elsewhere. |

@Cool Lucky chip? No. I have yet to see a 4770k that cant get above 4.2 Ghz.
My 4670k is at 4.6ghz on all four cores at 1.2766 volts. |
