Discussion on this potential 51st state. I personally think it should be a state, it's a large portion of the country that's going unrepresented within our nation, which goes against what the US stands for.
I've only seen one argument for why Puerto Rico shouldn't be a state, feel free to give me more if there are any.
That one argument is that the majority of Puerto Ricans are Democrats, so Republicans don't like the idea of letting more Democrat voters into the system. I think this is a stupid argument even though I dislike the Democratic Party, I mean those people's votes should count no matter who they're voting for even if it's somebody I dislike.
These people are going unrepresented within the Senate and House of Representatives, although I think they have one nonvoting member in the House to simply represent the Puerto Rican Commonwealth. |
