Slife of Life (SoL) is the genre of your basic school threads, and similar. Life is normal. Life is basic. No adventure. Fighting at worst reaches a fist fight. Drama. Romance. That stuff.
Most of you probably gag at the thought, because of how SoL is a genre over-used by 'bad roleplayers.' After all, the 'good roleplayers' go for adventure, and action!
But what if a Slice of Life roleplay was created with a well-designed city or town? What if the roleplayers in it were the 'good roleplayers' you're used to, where the drama of everyday life is made engaging and realistic.
This has been something on my mind for some time now; can a Slice of Life RP work out, if designed right? |

If designed right, perhaps. But I think the biggest problem with this genre is that we don't have enough experience in the real world to host an RP about it. Some of us might, both I imagine that most of us don't. We probably have no work, financial, etc. experiences.
But then again, "The Great Gatsby" was a pretty basic "Slice of Life" novel, I guess. And it was intriguing. I think it'd be interesting to do something like this.
I say go for it, if you plan to do this. |

Oh, I definitely understand that lack of real-world experience is a limiting factor.
But even a highschool RP done right could be interesting. Perhaps with some catch to it (I've had ideas for a Venice-inspired city I could use, set some years back), but when was the last time we saw any sort of Slice of Life RP attempted by the known, respected RPers of the community (I dislike the term 'good,' since the only way to RP successfully is to have fun). |

| I can see that working out. Personally, though, I'm not really into any RPs school-related. Frankly, I'd much rather RP as a man struggling financially than a student in high school. I can be a student in high school at my own school. |

Which is also a limiting factor. Slice of Life can be seen as boring on the grounds on "I already do that."
Which is why a catch could be interesting. Hell, I'd even love to see Slice of Life attempted in a fantasy world. Magic, fantasy races...
But traditional action replaced by drama.
I don't know, I sort of feel like Slice of Life is a genre that teenagers and preteens simply won't be able to approach in a sophisticated manner and enjoy... Hence the thread title. |

It's very hit-or-miss with an emphasis on miss. I've been in maybe just one or two down-to-earth Slice-of-Life RPs where all participants have been mature about the environment.
I'm okay with well-developed, well-thought out school RPs though.

I personally roleplay because real-life sucks, though the fantasy world thing would be pretty interesting... I'll write that down for future reference.
