And excerpt from the journal of Professor Charles Grimm, who was part of the team who discovered the original Talents.
ﻬGeneral Informationﻬ
Causeﻬ Genetic components of Talent are not yet understood, though it is certainly innate. There is a strong correlation between physiological trauma and high-ranking Talent, recorded in 87% of Type I and Type II Talents. Further research is needed.
Onsetﻬ Talent lies mostly dormant throughout childhood, the single most obvious early symptom being genius-level cognitive abilities. Some subjects are resistant to injury and illness as children, while others are not. Overtly superhuman abilities begin to manifest in adolescence between ages 12 and 21. Talent seems to increase in sudden increments throughout the adolescent developmental period, and, in the case of Type I and Type II Talent, onward towards adulthood.
Common Characteristicsﻬ The vast majority of adult Talents share several physical characteristics despite covering a range of ethnicity. Adult height ranges between 5'10 and 6'4 for males, 5'6 and 6' for females. Build is slim with finely developed musculature. Facial features are proportionate, and symmetrical. Skeletal features are proportionate and symmetrical, and bones are virtually unbreakable. Skin is devoid of any marks and blemishes.
All adult Talents exhibit superhuman levels of speed, strength, and dexterity, and are resistant to visible aging.
Talent is a perceptive of Talent. Talents are prone to developing strong relationships, and are naturally inclined to work in teams, though this can be corrected with specialized conditioning.
Myriad behavioral and mood disorders seemed to correlate with an untrained talent. Further research is needed.
Categories of Talent
1. Physical
Tier IV (Superhuman Physical) =Open to Everyone=
[Self-explanatory] Augmented strength, speed, and dexterity.
Tier III (Superhuman Physical with Superior Psychodynamic Defense) =With special permission from one of the admins, or Pawzkat=
Highly developed mental defenses, as well as augmented strength, speed, and dexterity.
Tier II (Superhuman Physical with Superior Phychodynamic Defenses and limited trace Physchodynamic and/or Psychokinetic Capabilities) =Admins=
Experienced mental defenses, in addition to already augmented physical as well as weakened Physchodynamic and/or Pscychokinetic capabilities. Talents of this Tier can possesses weakened telepathic, empathic, restorative, or cognitive traits. However, in comparison to those who posses those Talents singularity, these abilities are severely wakened.
Tier I (Superhuman Physical with with significant Physchodynamic and/or Psychokinetic Capabilities) = Pawzkat, and anyone who has special permission from Pawzkat only=
Talents of this Tier posses already augmented physical characteristics, as well as Superior mental defenses, and hardened Physchodynamic and/or Physcokinetic abilities.
Note: All Talented subjects are physically superior to the Talentless population; however, Physical Talents consistently outperform other Talents in physical tasks regardless of type.
2. Psychodynamic
A. Telepathic
Tier IV (General Perceptive)=Open to Everyone=
Telepaths of this level can easily delve into the minds of the Talentless population. Accessing civil information comes easy to them, however hacking into the mind of experienced mental defense is harder.
Tier III (Target Perceptive)=Special permission from Pawzkat or Admins=
Telepaths of this level, in addition to the abilities of Tier IV are granted the abilities to individually pick out, and target, well targets. This makes it easier for one to track others. They also have a higher chance to delve into the minds of talents, and can easily access simple facts floating outside the experienced walls, such as names, birthdays, and age.
Tier II (Target Perceptive and Persuasive)=Admins only=
Tier || telepaths are a rarity, and it is not easily to chance upon them. They are granted the abilities of the previous Tiers, as well as the ability to persuade people [face-to-face contact] to help. However, this control is of lesser control that a Tier | telepath, and there is not an 100% success. They have a higher chance of cracking experienced shields.
Tier I (Target Perceptive and Directive)=Pawzkat, or special permission from Pawzkat=
Telepaths of the highest level, most can easily step into the mind of other Talents. They can direct people to do their building without face-to-face contact, and can easily convince many of illusions.
B. Empathic
Tier III (Emotional Perceptive)=Everyone=
Empaths can easily perceive, and recognize the emotions of those around them, however they can not alter them.
Tier II (Emotional Perceptive and Persuasive)=Admins & Special Permission=
In addition to perceiving emotions, Empaths of Tier || can make an attempt to change feelings, but 'feeding' them. However, they can not direct others.
Tier I (Emotional Perceptive and Emotional-Sensory Directive)=Pawzkat, and special permission from Pawzkat only.=
Tier | can easily direct others around, as well as planting emotional 'traps' triggered by the presence of another. Tier | Empathy is similar to Tier | Telepathy.
Note 1: Telepathic and Empathic Talents are mutually antagonistic for reasons not fully understood. This can be tempered through rigorous conditioning and training.
Note 2: All Telepathic types suffer inferior Psychostructural capacities, leading to early breakdowns. (See: Physchostructural Development)
Note 3: Debate continues over the classification of Tier I Empathy. As Emotional-Sensory Empathy manifests in acute physical damage, it may be better categorized as a Physcokinetic; conversely, as nervous functions are controlled by factors more commonly associated with Telepathy, it may be better categorized as Telepathic. The rarity of Type I Empaths results in few opportunities for further study.
3. Psychokinetic A. Telekinetic =Open to all=
[Self-explanatory] Talents can easily move lesser objects around, as well as lift multiple people at once. They can also bind people, to keep them from moving, and create a temporary 'shield' that will block some attacks. However, it is exhausting.
B. Pyrokinetic
Tier II (Contact)=Open to everyone=
The touch of a Tier || Telekinetic is a burn on sight similar thing. Tier II Pyrokinetics can make their body temperature rise, and from this, their mere touch can issue, and the ability to start a fire. Using this, they can also seal up[but not heal], a wound. Their touch can melt metal. Pyrokinetics are resistant to heat, and burns.
Tier I (Remote)=Admins + Pawzkat=
Tier I are granted the abilities of Tier II as well. In addition, they can conjure actual flames from their hands, though it is said this ability takes a while to master. They can conjure, and direct flames using their will.
C. Cryokinetic
Tier II (Contact)=Open to everyone=
Similar to a Tier II Pyrokentic Talent, the touch of a Tier II Cryokinetic can issue frostbite, effectively rendering the flesh dead. In addition, they can withstand temperatures of -50. However, many Cryokinetics have a disliking to warm weather, as well as Pyrokinetics.
Tier I (Remote)=Admins + Pawzkat=
The touch of a Tier I Cryokinetic can freeze a person solid. They can conjure ice from their fingertips, as well as blasting it at others in addition to the abilities of a Tier II Cryokinetic.
D. Restorative
Tier II (Personal)=Open to everyone=
Restorative Talents have a supreme healing touch. Tier II, however, can only heal themselves. While their bodies will naturally regenerate fast, the process can be sped up by the use of contact via hand.
Tier I (Personal and Extra-Personal)=Special permission, admins, and Pawzkat=
In addition to the capabilities of a weaker Tier I, Tier II Restorative Talents are granted to the ability to heal others as well.
4. Cognitive
A. Hypercognitive
Tier II (Mathematical-Mechanical without Precognitive Insight)=Open to all=
Hypercognitives are observers, and make rational predictions based of what they observe. They are often right, however, they do not have the ability to foresee for sure.
Tier I (Mathematical-Mechanical with Significant Precognitive Insight)=Special permission from admins, or Pawzkat=
Though it is not certain, Tier I Hypercognitives have a little bit of foresight. However, this is of general, small things, such as lottery tickets, or a small event. They can not control it.
B. Precognitive
Tier II (General)=Admins, or special permission from an admin=
Similar to Tier I Hypercognitive, Precogs can see general events, though on a much larger scale. Yes, they can foresee the death of someone they love, however they can not ask what they specifically want to see. Most often, they'll go into a trance for a few seconds when foreseeing an event. Another conduct is dreaming.
Tier I (Targeted)=Pawzkat, and anyone who has special permission from Pawzkat only=
Tier I Precogs have the ability to foresee major events. They have some control of this ability, and kinda 'ask' what to see. However, it is unpredictable.
Note 1: Hypercognition spans mathematical and mechanical comprehension and is ranked through specialized testing.
Note 2: Highest recorded levels of hypercognition fulfill precognitive functions in certain capabilities.
Psychostructural Development (Shields)
Psychostructure (Shields) refers to mental patterns and techniques serving various critical functions. Psychostructure Development involves the manipulation of neurological characteristics through intense training and conditioning. Maximum capacity for psychostructural development various between individual Talents. Psychostructure can be damaged and destroyed through psychodynamic attacks, neurological damage, and psychological trauma.
Functions of Psychostructure
1. Subterfuge
Elementary Psychostructural Development involves the basic concealment of Talent for the purpose of avoiding unwanted detection by other Talents.
2. Defense
Intermediate Psychostructure Development involves defense against Psychodynamic attacks.
32% achieve defense levels sufficient to detects and limit telepathic penetration, up to moderate levels. Will not hold a Tier |||, Tier ||, or Tier | penetration.
3% of Talents achieve defense levels sufficient enough to detect and prevent telepathic penetration up to moderate levels. Will not hold a Tier ||, or Tier | attack.
15% achieve defense levels sufficient to detect Empathic influence. Can only detect, not prevent.
3% achieve defense levels sufficient enough to limit Tier ||| Empathic Influence.
3. Input Regulation
Psychodynamic Talents are particularly challenged by the need to build and maintain powerful shields in order to maintain independent cognitive functions while receiving a constant influx of thoughts and emotions. This obstacle proves insurmountable for 98% of Telepaths, whose cognitive functions deteriorate between peak development periods (ages 17-21).
4. Security.
Advanced Phychostructural Developement involves the construction of mental compartments where intelligence is secured even against the most extreme psychodynamic interrogation. Cognitive Talents are required to developed maximum shields in order to protect the critical intelligence to which they are privy.
Cancellations Throughout research, it has been discovered that certain types of the Talented should/could not be combined with another. For example, a telepath, should not also be a empath. The reason being a sensory overload, often leading to the loss of reason, and in many cases, insanity. It is stated that the brain can simply not handle the ability to perceive emotions, and control thoughts, and it..shuts off.
Telekinetics can not be Restoratives, for an unknown reason. More research is needed.
For an obvious starting reason, Cryokinetics can not be Pyrokinetics. For one, their powers would contradict each other, rendering them useless.
)Much of the information above is an excerpt from the 'Hidden Talents' series, book 1, by Claire Gray, with a few editions. Credit to her, for her awesome book series, and information. Warning; )Book Series( Recommended for mature readers!(
)Plot(
You awake to the same sight everyday, dull, boring lights, flickering from age, and lack of care, and chipped, stone walls, no longer polished or cleaned. The cell, itself, was tiny in comparison to the rest of the building, which, throughout your stay here, you had yet to explore. Your 'room', as they so graciously called it was about 6' by '10, the ceiling amounting to about 6'7. Meaning you could touch the ceiling for the most part. The only furniture provided, was a cott, rusted, and smelly, as well a grated drainage hole, presumably for waste.
Yet these conditions, no matter how bleak, were not the worst of it.
As far as you could figure, they came daily. Scientists garbed in masks and white labcoats. Like an animal, you were led into a polished lab, chained to the stainless steel lab table. Where they probed you, endlessly. Poked you with needles, drew blood, preformed experiments.
For some, they were tested physically, pushed to what would have been the breaking limit of a normal human.
Others had to move objects with their mind, and others still, had to use their thoughts to manipulate people.
The children, they were pushed to their limits, many becoming obedient, little drones. Ready to react to their 'creator's' every command.
Everyday, you say the same masked faces, same hollow look.
Until you didn't.
The beginning of the end had started.
Two months have passed since a Talent much like yourself broke into the Institute, and helped you, and a couple of others escape. Since then, you've been on the run with his group, trying to escape further into the unknown, to get away from the Scientists, who, trust me, want you back. You also have reason to believe they also carry talents.
Of course, there's been ups and down since then, but you know by know that they're closing in.
Oh, and you have reason to believe one of you is a traitor.
)Rules( 1 ] Please, no god-modding, power-play, or meta-gaming. They are not really tolerated, and not many warnings shall be given in the event it happens. 2 ] Anyone not an admin can have two different abilities. However, heed the warnings above. 3 ] Please, I ask that you give respect to me, your admins, and fellow roleplayers. 4 ] 'Numerals'. 5 ] Please don't share whatever I PMed to you with the other players. On that same level, please PM me if you have any questions. 6 ] When conflict arises, PM me, and I'll do my best to sort it out. 7 ] I ask that you at least have proper, readable grammar. This can be one of the reasons your CS is denied. 8 ] Yes, you do have a limited control over the environment around you, especially when it comes to those abilities of yours. As for NPC's, I ask that you don't take another player's without direct permission. 9 ] I am the only one who can accept CSes. On that note, please do not roleplay without my permission. 10 ] You can have more than one character, yes, as many as you deem acceptable. However, if it seems to much, then we will find a way to remove a character from the occasion. 11 ] Yes, I'm aware I'm missing quite a bit of information here, so please, any rules that I[or an admin] comes up with along the way, I ask that you follow them. 12 ] Those of you who helped review this early on get special permission from the admins that will unlock most Tier ||| powers. They also can have up to three powers. Or you asked to review it early. That too.

I can't read it....and I can usually read RPs. There are too many similar words, and way too long without clearly stating where one section ends and another begins.

| There's different types. Tier |v is basically the weakest, more common ability, while Tier | would be considered stronger. |

So just ordinary, normal powers? Like the ones listed here? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_superhuman_features_and_abilities_in_fiction
Elemental manipulation, flying, teleportation, etc., or is it only realistic stuff like advanced strength, mental abilities, etc.? |

For this one, all the powers available are listed above. Yes, people can have the same ability as others around them.
Think of the Tiers as different types of the same ability. The farther down the tier you go i.e, Tier | the stronger the abilities get. However, you can not train yourself to move up in Tiers, it's what you're born with. |

| There seems to be a ton of effort invested into describing the admin-only/special permission types that could have been better spent in other areas. The lack of headers or symbols to help point them out makes it harder to navigate through the thread and look back to reference the material. And rather than making it simple, you have to make a billion categories and sub-categories that only make it more of a chore to read through. Obviously, if you haven't caught the point by now, you should improve the formatting and try to streamline the powers. The premise is great, I just don't think that it was executed well. |

Here are some notes:
-Improved formatting, more distinctive headers with a uniform style; you can also add more spaces to help distinguish the separate categories (rules, powers, character sheets, etc.)The powers section is the main culprit when it comes to formatting.
-Steamline the Powers, you can certainly go without having longer, drawn-out descriptions and get to the point. This is more of a writing issue than an issue of getting the information out there. Wording the powers as if they were in a scientific journal is great for documents that characters read in the thread, but they aren't good for trying to get the information out there in the clearest way possible. It's also a bit obvious that there are conflicting writing styles.
-People don't roleplay internal character moral/psychological conflicts often, sometimes they don't even do it at all. I know you can't force people to go over the internal conflicts of their characters; they don't seem to do it often enough, so you can't really justify making those notes on psychological degradation when people don't take that opportunity to develop their character. Plus, people who RP from the third-person perspective are much less likely to do it anyway.
-Admin-Only/Special-Permission Powers/Content/Yadadaadada; This is probably going to be more of an opinionated point, so you don't have to pay much attention to this. There's always the chance that a newcomer is going to post a great character that gets the short end of the stick because they're easily outmatched by other characters that don't seem that interesting (sorry Soard). Either come up with a progression system to reward character development or don't include them at all. I'm not referring to the power of the admins to create events/control npcs/decline players/irrelevant stuffing. I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about though.
