I understand that the move to x86 obviously makes development easier...but this is a bit of a double edged sword, as developers are going to be tapping out each systems potential far quicker than previous generations.
Like with the Playstation 3 and the Cell, at first, games had to run at an inferior resolution or frame rate on the PS3 due to the Cell, which is alien to anyone who doesn't have an intimate knowledge of how it works. Later on, exclusives for the PS3 would get better and better looking, and this gradual progression was only possible by developers slowly unlocking Cell potential.
Now with the X1/PS4, due to having x86 architecture, the progression is going to happen far faster, and I honestly don't think for either platform that games will continue to look better and better after maybe...2 years from now. The only thing that is preventing developers from using every single drip, so to say, of potential in the new systems, is monetary. Progress is no longer going to be stifled by having to 'learn the system'. |

@rampage
The PS4/X1 both have 8GB RAM, there is no way they are 32-bit... |

@sama
x86 is 32-Bit
Also, the PS4 can only use 3.5 GB of RAM
While the XBONE can use 4 GB of RAM due to their OS requirement. |

Oh my god rampage everything about that post is incorrect...
The consoles use the x86-64 extension, so no x86 does not mean 32-bit. The PS4 has 3.5GB reserved for OS/recording purposes but developers can reclaim about 1GB of that for up to 5.5GB for apps. The X1 has 3GB reserved for the OS and the remaining 5GB can be used for apps.
Do you seriously think microsoft or sony would waste money buying petabytes of GDDR5 RAM if the consoles could only use half of what they were equipped with? |

| Sony and Microsoft would have to be insane not to use the AMD64 extension. There are all sorts of problems with 32-bit OSes now, like the 3.2GB RAM limit, integer overflow, and the Y2038 problem. |

rampage, why...just why?
You are posting lies. Please don't post things to mislead people. The Xbox One uses 5 GB of memory for games and the PS4 uses 5.5 GB of memory for games.
