I only got this idea after guessing the meaning of 'Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared'. The creepy bits, are in truth the media.
And the paint covering the drawing? The oppression of creativity.
The 3D? The media.
The creepy bits are the real thing. From child's play, to puppets.
See why they didn't use humans, but puppets?!
Because WE ARE PUPPETS in actual fact.

I personally just took it as a silly little video about heart pies and squid-puppets. You might be looking too deep into this.
