Anyone like the idea of this? Considering the target market of roblox is in general 8-18, it could attract at least half of that group. Fan-fiction reading and writing seems abundant around youths aged 13-18.
I'm thinking of making a game wherein you can write your own stores and upvote/downvote other ones. You will be able to also add books to a personal library, and listen to mp3s.
As of now here is a current wip pic of the gui: (imgur, y'all) /d3Sg1N0
Do you guys think it is promising? Suggestions?

| The idea is fine, but the design of the gui's aren't. Outlines don't go well here. The colors are fine as they are, but seem a bit too tinted for my personal liking. |

| Aye, so I aught just remove the darker outline all together? Or just make it of a lower intensity, being a darkisher version of the items color? |

What exactly would be the point of this on Roblox? There are websites that do this already, and due to it not being on Roblox, they do it way better than anything you could do on Roblox.
I mean, I'm all for experimenting just because it's fun, but you seem to be thinking people would actually use it, and I'm not sure why. |

@little Im not a downer, I'm a realist. also, I never said to abandon the project, if you want to see if you want to make something just to see how we you can do it, no matter the practical usage, then I completely understand that. Its fun.
Im just saying you shouldnt make something like this e, pecting people t9 use it. Wbich the OP is. |

When I saw the title, I was thinking of this: wikipedia[dot]org wiki Nintendo_e-Reader Why exactly would you need to make the book one for Roblox? I sorta doubt someone would be in an obby or something and be like "hmm, I am going to take a break to read a book." It would work for places with matching themes, but the average user wouldn't likely take the time to use it. You are also assuming too many people out of the target age do make/read fanfics. |

| Think of all the profanity that the users can type into the TextBox when submitting a story |

@200AB
I got the idea from the random low-popularity of my super-basic, rubbish, non-advertised book writing game: http://web.roblox.com/Book-Writer-place?id=20674408
It only receives 10-20 visits every week, but most of those were spent writing a book --considering the quantity scattered across the ground.
As to your remark about it being nullified by other sites, think of these places:
- Social Hangouts: Make a cafe, get on front page. Even though other websites exist with more ingrained social features, robloxians still find these games attractive.
Heck, just look at the popularity of these: http://web.roblox.com/BIG-UPDATE-My-Little-Pony-3D-Roleplay-is-Magic-place?id=5507887 http://web.roblox.com/Warrior-Cats-RPG-Green-Leaf-FOREST-SOUNDS-place?id=42156490 http://web.roblox.com/The-Greenwood-Town-Updated-place?id=16613936 http://web.roblox.com/Beach-House-Roleplay-v-2-9-5-place?id=31155050 http://web.roblox.com/Extreme-Town-of-Robloxia-place?id=141696732 http://web.roblox.com/Robloxity-place?id=12468179
Those first two are super imporant; their communities encompass a very high percentage of fan-fiction readers.
- Chess: Considered a boring, slow, and "stiffy" game by a vast majority of adolescents, an increasing number of this lot can often times be found on the front page, even with nearly a billion variations on the internet.
Granted this one may have a lesser following, this game did indeed reach the front page: http://web.roblox.com/PlaceItem.aspx?seoname=Chess&id=95041893
I could keep citing examples, but I hope you get my point.
@redlo
So? People can utilize the voting system to determine which story is worthwhile, and stories with a specified downvote amount could become flagged as spam.
Problem solved :)
Its not like other games don't have to deal with profanity; look at pictionary.

| Since those games are fanfics themselves, it should workout for that purpose for them. Also a library game might work out with it (would have to be a building showcase likely to gain attention lol). Again, the idea reminds me of: wikipedia[dot]org wiki Nintendo_e-Reader |

At a glance, the vast majority (Like 80%+) of the books in the place you cited at all extremely bad quality or only contain like a line of text. Out of like 30 I looked at, about 2 of them were more than a line and were written competently, and both were still pretty short as writing goes.
Writing in Roblox GUIs, unless it's changed a lot since I played last, is an atrociously annoying task, and attempting to utilise it as a writing platform is a questionable aim.
Now, on the other hand, if you put real effort into this, and rolled your own typing GUI, it could go very well. |

@trapping Pretty sure making your own typing GUI is impossible because about 20% of all keys are locked on roblox, including important ones like W, A, S, D, I, and O. |

Well, I'm involved in this and I can say my major complaint was textboxes. We eventually decided that if it didn't work out, we'd either make our or use an external submission system, such as a subreddit.

@trapping
Wat.
I wasn't using those places as examples of places which contain books. I was using them as examples of places which can be and are far better implemented outside of roblox, but are extremely popular inside roblox anyways.
How could you misinterpret that so bad :(

"He hates everyone"
That's not very accurate at all... I'm just blunt with the truth rather than covering it up, which is honesty, not hate. I haven't seen a single person on the forum since I logged in that I've a shred of distaste towards.
I see your point, however my point was not the irrelevant places, but the actual book place was receiving an extremely bad ratio of effortless books seemingly made just to test the system as a quick "oh, that's cool" reaction. Typing anything interesting in Roblox GUIs would get tiresome quickly and become a futile venture.
While socialising is perhaps better done off roblox, and many other things, they're also things that aren't frustrating for users to do on-site, either, and they're also menial tasks that a large quantity of people can gain entertainment purely from the existence of the other players. As implied in the category of social places; there's socialising happening, and socialising tends to be a positive thing. On the other hand, writing anything decent is a test of patience and thought, which require concentration. The main submissions are going to be short tests and maybe the occasional person doing it purely to prove posts like this wrong, I highly doubt many people would spend a long time typing into a TextBox for this purpose. It's dis-appealing to the main target market of the platform, and also to add another barrier, it's a difficult and tedious process to go through, which adds two problems to it.
If you do continue with it though, and produce a finished product, I'd love to see it though. :-] Good luck. |

In the OP's book game, I made a book about Peepee and Poopoo.
Find it :) |
