| having said that, it is a shame that many people these days see this kind of thing as an excuse for not bothering with education, instead telling themselves that they'll be rich and successful like the footballers and people they see on television, though it seems to entirely avoid them that those people got an education. |

I want to get an education, rather than be a footie star.
It is better to be educated than to be non-educated, as you can get a back-up job. |

though i don't necessarily agree that everyone should get equal pay if anything, someone's pay should be relative to their contributions to society. football stars have only made one contribution to society and that is allowing us to view them kicking a football around on a field. therefore, they should be deprived of their celebrity status and get paid just like all the other minimum wage workers, then they'll see how they like it. |

Agreed.
Solutions:
Equal pay (I know you do not like this)
Or,
A Mental Wake-Up for people to get an education! |

| equal pay does have an appeal, but then again, a doctor would be paid the same as a garbage collector (who does contribute something to society) who would be paid the same as a cashier who would be paid the same as a university professor. the problem is, how do you distribute pay equally among the different professions, and with so many people around? |

I say the one where you say "Who would be paid the same as a cashier who would be paid same as a university professor."
If we were payed as professionals, we would all have money, and poverty would be cut as people could buy homes, food, and other necessities. |

| yes, however if everyone gets paid the same, then education would have no point as everyone could just be a garbage collector and still get paid the same rate as someone with a job which requires more education. |

| human nature, sadly. we all strive to get money in one way or another. there'd be no incentive for helping others if we had no currency - nobody would bother. |

"i'm going to kick a ball around on a field - instant millions! i'm going to study a medical degree and save people's lives - wage only above the minimum wage"
This reflects society's demand for entertainment over the demand for medical care, and the relatively small supply of people able to provide such entertainment. |

i'm going to kick a ball around on a field - instant millions! ___ Because millions of people pay to see this why should they not get the money that people who come to see them give them?
i'm going to study a medical degree and save people's lives - wage only above the minimum wage ___ This isn't true |

| what are you trying to prove? if you're trying to prove that education really is ineffective, then sorry, but we're not Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, as they were the exception to the rule. exceptions to a rule don't automatically discredit the rule. |

| however, i am not saying that capitalism isn't good - in general, people with a good work ethic succeed - it's only the fact that some professions (yes, entire professions, not just two people) can get away with little to no effort for a reward which is higher than the reward for someone with the most immaculate work ethic and someone who seized the opportunity which is education. i am simply stating that capitalism is flawed. |

You are implying that the majority of people who are rich did not work to get there or are not as hard workers as the ordinary working man. I want proof of this, first, and second, you have a mindset that it is easy to become a sports star.
The MLB has about 750 players at any given time in a season in two countries which together consist of 350 million people almost. Many players come from other countries so that is 750 plays in a world of 7 billion. None of these players are billionaires, but there are over 2000 billionaires in the world today. All those players are millionaires, and there are approximately 12 million millionaires alive today. The number of millionaire sports players is a tiny fraction of that number. Not to mention that these sports players spend tons and tons of time training and they entertain millions. If we got rid of them, the world would be boring and have little entertainment.
Now you also probably assume that CEOs who are extremely rich don't deserve their wealth because all of them just sit in offices, have millions of dollars, and go on vacation. This is not true at all. Being a major CEO is a hard job. You are often stressed out all the time having to run a massive company. You are also supplying millions with goods that they are willing to buy. That is benefitting the world.
Saying that the majority of rich people don't deserve their money and don't do anything is ignorant and incorrect. Of course, I don't expect anything but ignorance and incorrectness from the left. |

You are also implying that these sports players are uneducated. Ever thought that they didn't have a chance to get educated and sports is giving them a chance to make a living?
No, lets force people who had a poor education to sit on welfare and be unproductive rather than let them entertain millions of people. |

i'm not saying they don't deserve their money if they work hard for it. i'm not saying capitalism is a flawed system. i'm saying that it's ridiculous that people who save other people's lives and work hard do not earn as much as those who work in the entertainment industry.
also, is there really the need for the ad hominem argument at the end, and does my apparent leftist ideology (i do not identify with leftists) discredit my argument? |
