Like the title implies, this is just another SS short story. It just might be worth reading. I accept all comments and criticism, but I honestly don't care if you think my story is garbage(Unless you're a SS HR, theeeeen I might care.). Don't take this the wrong way, just saying that I probably wont change the story line no matter how many hate replies I get(Again, unless you're a SS HR, or maybe LordAttila.). This will include a lot less technology than some of the SS stories do. The timeline is closer to after the collapse of society, and humanity is still recovering.
BTW if you want a part in this just ask. I'll probably find a part for you somewhere. Also, there might, and probably will be, typos. I do my best. So let's begin...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't born yet when society collapsed and the world as we knew it ended. But my father was. When I was younger and my mother was still alive, and we weren't getting chased by bandits or hunted by Mutants, my father used to tell me stories about the war and the death and the hate. He told stories about the weapons of mass genocide that could level small countries. He talked about biological weapons that quickly mutated into uncontrollable viruses that spread with the wind. It seemed he knew it all. Everything that is now just a thing of the past, a distant memory, he seemed to know about. I remember those nights when my world was at peace. When the fire crackled softly, our mules quietly shifted, and the sleeping Wolf hound snored. Those were the days. Not a care in the world. That changed. When I was older, maybe 11, my mother caught the violet plague, and died soon after. My father was never the same. My family had been just a group of traveling merchants, trying to sell whatever we could salvage from the destruction to the remnants of humanity. We had no choice but to move on when my mother died, and it wasn't long before we were ambushed by a gang of bandits in a canyon and my father was killed. They just grabbed our small belongings and food, and thought that if they left me there, I would become prey to a hunting Mutant. They killed a mule for food, then cut the other loose. They didn't underestimate my father as much as they underestimated me. That was unfortunate. For them. My father had raised me well in the art of survival, and I had a knack for large knives. I stalked the small gang until they they set up camp for the night. They only set up one sentry, and I then wondered how they had survived this long. This was the badlands, and Mutants were everywhere, especially at night. Particular Mutants had a reputation for killing silently, not a sound escaped their prey, which made more than one sentry necessary. But this band of scum had more to worry about that night than Mutants. Quiet as the night, I crept up behind the tired sentry. The last thing he heard was the sound of my knives getting pulled out of their hidden sheathes. He made no sound, just stood there for a moment, then slowly fell lifeless to the ground. Next came the easy part. I remember it so well. The feeling of hate towards these people who had taken away everything I had, and the anticipation of the feelings that their deaths would bring me. I killed them in one by one, there were only around 4, waking them before I killed them. Seeing the recognition in their eyes of who I was, of the mistake they had made, before silencing them forever. They were dead, and yet I felt no satisfaction at all. Just dread, regret, and a sense of loss. The people who had taken my father away from me had been in the same situation as us. Trying to survive in a dying world, a place devoid of nature, and filled with savage Mutants and savage survivors. I had felt no reward in killing them. I had felt necessity. I gathered their supplies and food, and moved on. At the time a never knew where. I only met the members of Shadow Syndicate when a couple of them caught me stealing their food. Instead of slicing me to pieces with their large blades, which I figured out later they easily could have, they took me back to their camp, gave me food, took me in, and trained me to be one of them. My name is Crux, and this is my story.

The mist was thicker than usual. One could barely see 5 feet ahead of himself, and I wondered what the point was of me being on sentry wall duty when I couldn't even see the ground. I told myself that if Royal Blood or The League of Assassins decided to attack us now, there was nothing I could do about it. I climbed down the wall and walked back into the fort. I smelled cooking. So the hunting party had returned. I walked into a hut to get something to drink. My squad partner, Lance, was eating the wafer-cream snack he loved. I forget the name....Orions, no, Oreedohs? That wasn't it.....
"Hey, crux." said Lance. "Oreo?" So that was it.....Oreo.
"No thanks," I replied wearily. "I just need hydration."
I went into the well room and pulled up a bucket of water. After I finished with that I decided I might as well go back up to the sentry wall. I made my way back to the large wall and got back on top. I leaned against a bell tower, sharpening my blade, bored. Then I saw it. Just a small movement in the fog. I froze. There it was again. I was about to go get the other sentry guard and ring the alarm bell when I finally saw them. They were humans, but not hostiles. They wore our attire and markings. One saw me and waved. Then I recognized him. He was supposed to be leading a 300 man attack on Royal Blood's fort. But where were the others? I saw only 18. I had no time for questions. I slid down the worn wood ladder and signaled the other guards. They came up the wall, took a look, and opened the gates. The 18 people walked in slowly. They all looked like they had been through death. The leader, Eno, walked inside the walls. Once everyone was inside, we shut the gates once more.
"You look like you've been through hell and back." I said.
"You have no idea." He said wearily. "Where can I find Darkrai? I need to speak with him. We have company." A shiver ran through my spine.
"What is it? Is Royal Blood planning an attack?" I asked.
"No. One person company. And I don't think we'll be seeing much of Royal Blood anytime soon." He said. I was still wondering what the heck had happened to the others. Then I saw the one that stood out among the group. Something about him was different. He had fear in his eyes. Pure terror. He didn't have the markings of SS either. Something told me he wasn't one of us.
"Who's he?" I asked.
"All in good time Crux. Now, about Darkrai." I had completely forgot about that.
"Oh yes. This way." I said. "He's in his hut."
"Good." He turned back to his men. "You all did well. Now, go get food and rest. We will mourn our losses in the morning. This one," He motioned to the person without SS markings. "comes with me." The guy slowly started to follow me and Eno, not making a sound.

Eno and Darkrai sat across from each other at the metal table. Darkrai seemed to have more patience than I did.
"Take your time, Eno, tell me slowly." He said.
"Very well." said Eno. " As you know, 300 men were sent out to attack Royal Blood, led by me."
"Yes, I remember, go on..." replied Darkrai.
"Well, when we got there, about to attack," He seemed to hesitate. "It was, well, gone."
"Gone?" asked Darkrai.
" Gone. Completely destroyed. Nothing alive in sight." said Eno. Darkrai froze. Then slowly spoke.
".......What?"
"The remains of buildings were scattered everywhere, some on fire. Smoke filled the air. We couldn't," he sighed, as if looking for a word to say it. "We couldn't see the sun. It was as quiet as death. Some of the men became uneasy. Then Hexx said he saw something dart in the shadows. I sent a 5-man team to go check it out. They brought back someone."
"Wait wait wait," Darkrai said. "SomeONE?"
"Yes, someone." said Eno, looking down. "They said they found him cowering in the shelter of a destroyed building, muttering stuff about demons and death."
"Did you bring him back?" asked Darkrai.
"Yes. We did."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so part one's done. Woohoo! Hope you enjoy it. Don't worry, all your questions about who the heck the non-SS person is, what the heck happened to the other 282 people led by Eno, and any others will be answered in part two. Once again, hoped you enjoyed it.

Well, here's part two. I'm glad at someone finished the first part! :D Once again, if you want to be character, just ask. Let's start.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I silently looked on as Eno and Darkrai spoke.
"So, you brought him back." Darkrai said, looking deep in thought.
"Yes sir. I could bring him in here for you." said Eno.
"No, not yet. First I want to know what the heck happened to the other 282 of your men." said Darkrai. Eno hesitated, then replied.
"On the way back here, men started to disappear. The night watchmen were gone when we woke. When I sent scouts to map out the area in front of us they never returned. When I sent men to look for them, the never came back either. Entire battalions would go into the fog and never return. Some of my men went insane, screaming that dark ghosts were attacking the tents, and then running off into the mist. By the time we finally made it back here, there were only 18 of us left." Eno looked down to his feet. Darkrai looked stunned. He slowly spoke.
"Could it have been a large pack of Mutants?" he asked.
"No, my men are trained to deal with Mutants, and besides, we would have heard something." said Eno.
"What about Clickers? They kill their prey silently and are one of the most formidable Mutant species documented. They've been known to slaughter squads of SS before." said Darkrai.
"Clickers wouldn't have been able to kill 282 of my men without me knowing it, sir. I think it's safe to sat that Mutants didn't do this." said Eno. Darkrai looked Bewildered.
"I'd like to see this guy now." he said.

The person walked in followed by Eno. He showed no sign of resistance. Once again I noticed something about him was off. The most unsettling thing about him was his eyes.
"Sit here." said Eno. The guy did as he was told. Darkrai spoke.
"Ok, tell me what happened to Royal Blood's fort." said Darkrai.
"What makes you think I know?" mumbled the guy.
"You were there." said Darkrai, standing up and walking to the window. The person glanced at Darkrai's bodyguards, looking uneasy.
"Don't worry about them, they won't hurt you." said Darkrai.
"Their not the ones I'm worried about." said the guy. Darkrai walked over from the window.
"May I ask you your name?" he said. The person hesitated, then slowly spoke.
"Aohi."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope you liked it! The story sections will be coming along faster now that they have been shortened. Stay tuned for part 3! :D

Part three is here. Hope you like it. :D
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The silence that engulfed the room was haunting. No one spoke. No one moved. We all knew who Aohi was. He was a member of the Royal Council, a group of six Royal Blood members inferior only to the Overseer and the Dignitary himself. We had seen this person lead armies against us, we had seen him kill our men. He looked nothing like the terrified and insecure person who now sat in front of us. We were all stunned. Then one of Darkrai's bodyguards broke the silence.
"This guy's insane." he said, drawing his blade.
"Zey, stand down." said Darkrai. Zey looked at Aohi and sheathed his blade. Darkrai walked over to his other bodyguard, Krell.
"Get Sydwin down here. Tell her there's something she's got to see."

Sydwin walked in accompanied by the Defense Council security Captain, Varr, and 3 other members of the Elite Guard.
"So, whats the problem Darkrai?" asked Sydwin coolly.
"This." said Darkrai, motioning to Aohi. Aohi slowly looked up. He didn't seemed fazed at all that the Grand Protectorate was in the room with him. He slowly looked back down to the floor, blank of emotion.
"Who the heck is he?" asked Sydwin.
"His name," said Darkrai, taking a deep breath. "is Aohi." Sydwin froze.
"What??" she then laughed quietly. "Ahh, I'm sorry Darkrai. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately. Can you throw that by me one more time?" she said. Darkrai sighed.
"Aohi." he said. Sydwin said nothing.
"Thats him." said Darkrai, motioning to Aohi. Sydwin looked at Aohi, then back at Darkrai, then back at Aohi again.
"Okay then. Darkrai, it would help tremendously if you told me the whole story."
"Very well." said Darkrai. "As you probably know, Eno here," Darkrai motioned to Eno, who nodded at Sydwin. "Was sent out to attack Royal Blood."
"Yeah, I remember." said Sydwin. Darkrai continued.
"When he and his men arrived at Royal Blood's fort, everything was gone. Destroyed. Pieces of obliterated buildings were everywhere, some on fire. Not a living thing in sight. After mapping the area of where the fort should have been, they found him." Darkrai looked at Aohi. "as you know, 300 men were sent with Eno. On the way back, they started to disappear. Men would just go into the fog and never come back. Eno informed me that some of his men went insane. By the time they made it back here, there were only 18 people left." Darkrai finished, and looked over at Sydwin. Sydwin just stared ahead of her.
"Darkrai, Darkrai, Darkrai. What I meant when I said tell me the whole story was tell me something that would make my headache cease to exist. This just made it worse." she said.
"I'm sorry, Syd. I can't tell you more than I already know." said Darkrai.
"So what you're saying-" Syd looked over at Aohi. "What the heck is wrong with him?" she asked. We all simultaneously looked over at Aohi. His head was laying on the table, and he was convulsing. Eno stood up, panicked. Sydwin looked at us.
"Is this normal?" she asked. Eno looked at her.
"No ma'am." he said. "This is not normal."

Aohi was shaking more and more violently. Darkrai rushed over.
"What the heck is going on with him?!" he asked.
"I have no idea sir." said Eno. Varr, who hadn't said a word this whole time, spoke.
"Is he having a seizure?" he asked, rushing over.
"How should I know???" exclaimed Eno.
"Should I get the medical team?" I asked.
"We don't have the time, Crux." said Darkrai. Then, Aohi, froze. We all stopped speaking and looked over at him. He slowly lifted his head up off the table. He opened his eyes. I saw insanity in them. He then managed a crazed smile that sent chills to my bones.

Talk about a cliff hanger. Hope you liked part three! Stay tuned for part four. Remember, if you want to be a character, just ask. I'll find a place for you somewhere.

Lance, they don't have time for the medics, Mr. Aohi here is too busy getting possessed. So, a medic and squad leader? Hmmmm. I'll try. And Varr, I figure the DC security Captain would be the silent deadly type. A lot of crazy crap is about to go down in part four. Prepare.....

Just a note. I just saw Mydark's story and I just want to say that I didn't copy anything. The next part will introduce paranormal creatures, quite like the ones in Mydark's story. I formulated my story in my brain before I started writing it. Just want you all to know that.

Part four.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We all stood motionless, watching Aohi. Something about him had changed. He no longer looked insecure and vulnerable. Instead he looked sure of himself, eyeing all of us, like a Dune cat ready to strike. He looked at us, saying nothing. I looked closer at his features and discovered his retinas had turned blood-red. The others had seemed to notice he wasn't quite the same either. Varr seemed the most concerned. We all started to shift uncomfortably. A dark presence had seemed to settle over the room.
"Elite Guard, weapons out. Now." said Varr, drawing his sword.
"That would not be wise, mortal." We all froze, and looked over at Aohi, or what had become of him.
"What," said Sydwin. "was that??" I was getting pretty edgy, running my fingers over the hilt of my katana.
"Shadow Syndicate." Aohi spoke again. He seemed to have maintained his original voice, but a deeper and more foreboding one echoed throughout his speech.
"What has happened to Aohi?!" Darkrai shouted at what was once the member of the Royal Council.
"Ahh, yes." said Aohi. "Aohi. What a name. Once a mortal makes contact with us, they retain some of our essence. I am merely in Aohi's mind, controlling his body. You think discovering this mortal hiding in the remains of Royal Blood's fort was a coincidence? Nothing is a coincidence when it comes to us." he said. We maintained our silence. Then Eno made a dash for the door. Aohi glanced at him, and the door shut suddenly. Eno looked back at Aohi, and tried to open the door again, but it wouldn't budge. Sydwin seemed unfazed by everything that was happening.
"Eno, stop." said Darkrai under his breath. Aohi continued.
"In your wars you have been blind. An order that was supposedly defeated long ago has grown strong in the shadows. Royal Blood was only the first." His voice seemed to emanate from every corner of the room. He turned to Sydwin.
"There are things Scorchio didn't tell you. Dark secrets. I'm sure he would have told you soon enough, but then came the war against the Darkheart Legion, and of course, Scorchio's unfortunate demise." Aohi had obviously struck a nerve with Sydwin, but she maintained her cool. Aohi laughed softly and turned toward the opposite wall.
"Struck by a poison tipped arrow. And to think he had killed so many adversaries with his blade." Sydwin lost it. Darkrai saw this.
"Syd, no!" But it was too late. She flung herself at Aohi, blade unsheathed.
"WHAT DO YOU OF ALL THINGS KNOW OF SCORCHIO?!" she yelled. Aohi caught her blade on its downward descent, not even turning around.
"You dare draw your blade on me, mortal?" said Aohi. He spun around lighting fast and grabbed Sydwin by the throat, lifting her off the ground. We all unsheathed our weapons at the same time. Aohi looked at us.
"Now now," he said. "Let's be smarter then the Grand Protectorate here, shall we?" We all lowered our weapons slowly, staring at Aohi. He looked back up at the struggling Sydwin.
"It would be so easy to kill you right here and now, and so gratifying." he said. "But Infernus would not approve." he flung her to the opposire corner of the wall, and Varr and Darkrai rushed over. She coughed.
"Assemble the rest of the Defense Council. Tell them to prepare the fort for war." she said. Aohi continued.
"Something is coming, Shadow Syndicate, something dark. Something inescapable. The time of mortal men is over. Your time," he said turning around and looking at us. "is up." Aohi shuttered, then fell to the ground, motionless. Eno and I and rushed over. Eno checked his pulse.
"He's dead." we all stood frozen. Then Darkrai motioned to one of the Elite Guard, telling him to summon the rest of the Defense Council. That's when we heard the sound of the alarm bell going off.
