It seems like most people's opinions on the game are quite split. As a fan of the original games I can't say that I enjoy it as much As I was hoping...but it isn't bad. People seem to forget that when you reboot a franchise like this you are not aiming at the original audience. Most of the original fan base for Thief is gone. They had to make a game the appealed to a new demographic and that is just what they did.
Honestly though with the difficulty options you can make the game as hard as the first few. I thought it was very cool of them to include the ability to customize your run by having you deal no damage with arrows, game over once spotted, etc etc.

It feels like a cheap dishonored knockoff rather than a thief game

I'm not sure I could agree with that. Dishonored was an assassination simulator. you had so much freedom of movement versus something like Thief.
Being a first person stealth game doesn't mean that it's a knockoff of Dishonored, which in turn took many queues from the original Thief games. |

| So, you're saying that it had to cater to the newer audience, like Tomb Raider, DmC(Tried way too hard), or even Dungeon Keeper? |

@Dapper
That still doesn't fix the other characters. I also don't want to make it seem like everyone is communicating telepathically. |

The new Dungeon Keeper didn't cater to anyone but their own wallets, we should get that out of the way right now.
I think Tomb Raider is a great example though. There is a series that had not had a game in quite some time and it's original fanbase had shriveled to nearly nothing. Rebooting it into something new (and I personally thought, kinda fun) was necessary and it did pretty well as a result.
DMC however took it in a different direction and alienated it's hardcore fanbase by dumbing down the difficulty curve and having a radical redesign of a beloved character. The combat in that game is MUCH easier than something like Devil May Cry 3 or even it's modern competitor Metal Gear Rising.
Thief is somewhere in the middle and they have gone out of their way to include things for the hardcore fan (something DMC did not do and Tomb Raider did less of) that should appeal to them directly. The problem is all but the last of the Thief games were GREAT, where as the last few Tomb Raider games were god awful.
Like I said though, I think it's fun. Do I wish the levels were not tiny and linear, well yeah...of course. As the first in what is presumably meant to be a new franchise...I'm in and I'm hopeful.
At bare minimum the PC port was awesome. |

I wished EA would just stop being selfish pricks..
Btw, where would debates go? I posted one in Roleplaying, if that's fine. |

what's sad is not that it got a 69/100
what's sad is when people think that's a godawful score |

| Score inflation is becoming a serious issue. At some point it became the norm never to give anything below a 5...not sure why. |

I think it being "bad" or "godawful" is probably based on the high expectations set by people who played the first Thief games which would, I suppose, make the reboot seem like less than it is.
