Part II
The transport plunged into hyperspace, on its way back to Siatia to drop off the captured Arcadian Empire, Tober Delargivic. The mission had gone better than anticipated, getting in and out in under a half hour. The transport landed at the Royal Palace on Siatia, and Tober was immediately brought to the prison block on Siatia. Tober was placed in the highest security possible, with very little contact with the outside. The Arcadian Palace was swarmed by hundreds of Arcadian soldiers as the transport ship containing the captured emperor flew off. Immediately after, the Gladiators were mobilized to retrieve their beloved Emperor. They attempted to fly into Siatia and negotiate for their Emperor back. After the negotiations turned sour, the Gladiators attempted to take him back by force, unaware of the power the Siatian Army possessed. They were put down in seconds, their heads sent back to Arcadia as a warning to the new Emperor, Castellian, to disconsider any attempt of getting Tober back. With Tober safely stored in the prison, the next portion of the plan could begin. One other leader was needed before they would both make an appearance in front of trillions across the universe. This would be what brings Siatia’s Golden Age.
I paced up and down the courtyard of the Royal Palace of Siatia. My plan to capture Castellian had gone perfectly. Blood still stained the courtyard from the attempted attack of the Arcadian elites. I was pondering how I was to capture the next target, the most prominent leader in the universe, even if Tober were still in power and not locked up. As I was pacing, I picked up a long stick that had fallen off one of the many trees in the courtyard. I started sketching out many plans, all of which would ultimately lead to a loss of soldiers’ lives too great to be used. As I began the tenth plan, Ardus approached me. A frown burrowed itself in his forehead. “What happened this time?” I said as he got within range of my voice. “Intelligence reports have come in. Vaktus is being moved within the next couple hours, and we have no idea where to. It’s either we attack now, or risk losing the opportunity to finish this, once and for all.” “How could our operatives not find out he was being moved until now?” I nearly screamed at him. “Is it not their job to know these things before it’s too late?” “Watch your tone, general,” Ardus said back to me. “I am still your superior and I could have easily killed you when I first found you, and I can kill you now. Our operatives did not even have the clearance to know this and barely managed to get it without being killed. Now, do you have a plan formulated, or are we going in their blind? Or would you rather risk waiting, giving the Arcadians a chance to put together an invasion and get back their Emperor?” I thought quickly, ideas being passed back and forth within my head.
“I have a plan.” I said decisively.
The fleet mobilized on Siatia. Ten capital ships, followed by fifty frigates, shot out of the atmosphere of the planet, jumping to hyperspace once out of the gravity well of the planet. I was aboard the flagship of the fleet, named “Deathstalker”, giving orders to the fleet that followed through hyperspace. Each ship was filled with hundreds of thousands of tons of explosive devices, enough to level an entire planet. The Deathstalker was filled with enough energy to fire the massive plasma weapon on its underbelly thousands of times. This alone would be able to destroy a large moon or a small planet. As the trip through hyperspace continued, the orders were repeated time and time again, leaving little room for error of miscommunication. The operatives within the Vaktovian Military had reported that Vaktus was being prepared to be moved to a distant planet, one that had not been traveled to in centuries. Its name was unknown. The operatives were attempting to find out the name of the planet but could find no information providing insight into its identity
“Come on... Come on...” I muttered to myself as the window was closing.
We were a hundred light years away. Vaktus was going to be moved in one hour. By my calculations, once we exited hyperspace, we would have fifteen minutes to find and capture Vaktus. This mission had no room for error. We came out of hyperspace with twenty minutes to find and capture Emperor Vaktus, my former leader who had helped me escape my home planet. I did not know the planet we were going to before now, only given the coordinates. We were at Frostaria.
“Fire!” I shouted through the communications channel. Immediately, the planet was bombarded by thousands upon thousands of tons of explosives, killing millions in an instant. I leisurely walked to the lift, which took me to the hangar, where my personal transport was waiting for me, with five of the most elite Siatian soldiers. They saluted me as I walked past them onto my ship. The pilot took off as the soldiers got on. After five minutes of bombardment, I called off the bombardment. I was going in to get Vaktus, who was sure to be alive. As we approached Frostaria, I could see the scars on the planet where the missiles hit the most. I prayed that Vaktus had not been under one of those, otherwise this entire mission would have been a bust. As the bombardment stopped, thousands of more transports shot out towards the planet. Their mission was to search for Vaktus among the scars on the surface. “Ship detected exiting atmosphere of planet, sir!” a voice buzzed through my helmet. “Cripple it before it has a chance to escape!” I hissed. A missile shot through space, hitting a ship, causing the back half of it to burst into flames. A gravity beam flooded the ship, pulling it into the Deathstalker. As it went into the bay that held captured ships, a crew met it to put out the flames. Immediately, soldiers swarmed it, guns pointed at the doors. A different voice filled my ears this time. “Well, well, well... After all this time, you thought you would be able to capture me?” The voice was sinister, yet familiar to me. It was Vaktus. He started again. “My old age does not make me any less able to conquer armies with a much, much smaller force. It does not make me any less able to topple regimes. You were one of the best soldiers I could have asked for, but you betrayed me. We could have taken down The Grand Imperium together, just you and myself. Why? Why did you do it?” “I did it, because this is much more important than me. It is more important than even you. Every empire has its glory days. Vaktovia’s was running up, especially with the rise of Arcadia. All I did was speed of the inevitable. I’m going to capture you. You can count on it.” With that, I turned off my commlink. I pushed the pilot of the seat and swung the ship around back to the Deathstalker. I increased the throttle as the flagship began its slow turn away from the planet, surely under Vaktus’ command. As it began to fire its plasma cannon on the frigates and other capital ships, I flew even faster, turning to the bridge of the ship. I reached twenty thousand kilometers per hour and crashed into the ship just below the bridge, causing it to stop firing immediately. The cockpit of my transport exploded, miraculously throwing me away with no fatal injuries. The ship was nothing more than rubble now. Two other soldiers got up and grabbed weapons, only slightly limping. One lay still, his arm missing from the elbow down. One was missing his ear and a hand. The pilot and the last elite were nowhere to be seen. I signaled to the two that were well enough to fight to move forward. We took the emergency stairs up to the bridge. When we got up, Vaktus was sitting at the controls, piloting the giant ship. “That was valiant of you, Xaleyp. However, it was not very smart of you to put your soldiers in danger.” Vaktus said, turning the chair around as he brought up a pistol to shoot the two elites in the chest before they even had a chance to bring up their weapons. I shot his shoulder that held the gun, causing him to yelp in pain and drop the weapon. “This is over, one way or another, Emperor. Your reign is over.” I said, slowly approaching the wounded old man. “I guess it’s over another way...” He croaked. He pulled out an antique sword and slashed at me with incredible speed, barely missing my chest. He left a cut in my right arm, causing me to bleed slightly. Respecting a fair fight, I pulled out my own sword I got when I was named a General of the Siatian Army. He slashed again, and I parried the attack. Blow after blow flew at me with blazing speed, leaving me little time to react. He may have looked old, but he was in no way hindered by the fact. I resorted to dodging the attacks, not trying to block, nor parry, them any longer. He was pushing me back into a wall slowly, his attacks containing strength and speed. I tried to block and parry his attacks until he wore himself out. I was wearing myself out just by trying to stay alive. Slowly, his attacks backed off as the onslaught was ending. Now it was my turn. I did a spin move, slashing as hard as I could at him. I was attacking as fast and hard as I could, trying to disarm or disable him. I did not let up the attack, even as he was staggering back. I launched one final attack, directed at his sword. The steel of my weapon cut through his, leaving his sword blunt and unable to be used. I kicked him in the stomach, causing him to fall backwards. I held my sword to his neck, preventing him from getting up. “Looks like this is over” I said. “Or is it?” Vaktus replied. Guns clicked behind me. I turned my head slightly. They were Vaktovian Soldiers. I calculated the odds of me being able to slash at them with my sword and jump out of the way before they could shoot me. I slowly put the sword down and Vaktus got up. He brushed his robes off and one of the soldiers bandaged his wounded shoulder. “I expect to see you again in the near future, Xaleyp” Vaktus said as he walked out of the room. When he was gone, the soldiers began to try binding my wrists together. There were three of them. As one of them went behind me, I kicked him hard, then brought my leg around to kick one of the others. I pulled out my pistol with surprising speed and shot the third. I shot the other two, then ran to try catching up with Vaktus. As I ran to the hangar, I saw signs of Vaktus everywhere. Bodies littered the halls, some still breathing, though weakly. I reached the hangar as I saw him getting into a small fighter. He turned to me, giving me a little salute, then got in. I pulled out my pistol again and tried to shoot the engines and disable the ship. One stray bullet ruptured the fuel line, causing it to ignite. The whole ship went up in flames, destroying it. I stared at it, unable to comprehend what just happened. I grabbed a fire extinguisher on the nearby wall and ran as fast as I could to the burning piece of metal. I put it out quickly, then searched the heated metal for Vaktus. I found him, unconscious, but alive. I bound his arms and legs, then called for elite soldiers to take him to a transport and await further orders. I walked around, getting all injured and dead to shuttles to take them to the new flagship of Siatia, named “Ouroboros.” As I finished my walk around, I had engineers salvage whatever they could from the ship. As they were doing that, I planted a nuclear device on the ship, meant to destroy it to keep this marvelous piece of technological advancement out of enemy hands. I walked slowly to the transport that held Vaktus and the elites. I walked gallantly, not wanting to abandon this vessel. But it was no use trying to hold on to it. It was damaged beyond repair, and there were insufficient crew members to pilot it without a disaster unfolding. I passed the transport I flew into the ship, taking one more look at it, the fire still burning strong. I saluted it, still sensing the soldiers whom I had knowingly killed. I continued my walk to the transport, at a slightly faster pace than before. I entered the hangar, shuttles taking off to the Ouroboros at both sides. I walked to the transport, soldiers once again waiting for me. They saluted me as I walked onto the shuttle, following me on. Vaktus was in a prison cube, not much different than the one Tober was held in, in the corner. He was still unconscious as the shuttle took off to the Ouroboros. After a minute of flying through space, we reached the hangar on the new Flagship. A crowd of soldiers met me just outside my transport, following me to the bridge. When we reached the bridge, I went straight to the viewport. “Turn 10 degrees starboard,” I said to the navigations officer. The massive ship turned, bringing into view the Deathstalker. I held up my small remote control with one red button. I clicked it. The device exploded, creating a stream of plasma that shot out into space. The ship opposite of me ruptured instantly, sending debris every which way. It burned brightly with the plasma that didn’t get shot off into space. “Let’s go home.” I said to the pilot. He turned us around and shot into hyperspace back to Siatia. I walked to the transport that held Vaktus with five elite soldiers. We had a small hoverlift to carry the prison cube to a cell within the ship. We opened the transport and moved him onto the hoverlift. He was conscious again, but said nothing. He just glared at me.
We came out of hyperspace with a jerk. The damaged frigates and capital ships proceeded to the orbital shipyards to get repaired. The Ouroboros stopped just inside the gravity well of Siatia. A prison vessel flew up to meet us to take Vaktus to the high security block of the prison that Tober was in. I helped bring Vaktus to the vessel. “You don’t have to do this, you know.” Vaktus tried persuading me. “You can always let me go, then we can take over the universe together, like we were destined to do. We can rule over the largest empire known to History. We will be History.” “Don’t even bother.” I replied. “My mind is already made up. This is what needs to be done. Now, silence.” The prison transport landed and guards poured out with riot shields and formed a path to the transport. I lead the lift the prison cube was on onto the transport, then sat in an available seat. “Staying for the ride, General?” One of the guards asked me as he got on. “Yes, I am.” I replied. “Well, you might want to buckle up, sir. It can get a little bumpy.” I took the guard’s advice, buckling up. The ship started off to the planet with a lurch. Vaktus mumbled something unintelligible. I ignored it. A rush of air could be heard outside the ship as we entered the atmosphere, a comforting noise after being in space for only a couple hours. We flew low to the palace, which was on the other side of the planet. I sent a message to Ardus, telling him that we had Vaktus and were in the planet’s atmosphere. He said he would get Tober ready for the plan. A high pitched whistle could be heard outside the ship. I looked out the window behind me. Nothing. I looked out the window in front of me. A white trail of smoke came through the sky, then stopped halfway down. The whistle grew louder. I realized what it was as it hit us. It was an Arcadian missile. We went crashing down towards the snow covered trees of the forest below. We were still a mile away from the palace. The pilot died from the explosion. I took control of the ship and brought the nose up, keeping us airborne. I piloted us to the palace, where I radioed in that I would be crash landing. After a minute of being over the gargantuan palace, I couldn’t keep the ship up any longer and it crashed into the ground with a thunderous noise. It didn’t explode on impact, keeping me from dying. I blacked out as I saw a swarm of people crowd the area.
I woke up a couple minutes later, as the crowd as getting bigger. The ship was torn to shreds, the prison cube Vaktus was in was demolished. He was still unconscious. I got up, still dizzy, my vision blurry, and my hearing impaired. I staggered over to Vaktus as he was getting up. He pulled a knife from his sleeve and tried stabbing me. I grabbed his arm and twisted it, making him drop the knife. I punched him in the stomach, the brought brought my knee up to the same spot. I grabbed a piece of metal from the crash then smacked him over the head with it, forcing him to the ground. I bound his hands then picked him up. I began to walk him over the soldiers that were jogging over in formation. As I was walking over, I staggered three times, almost falling twice. Once the soldiers took him from me, and began their trip to the prison, I staggered for a final time, this time falling to the ground, going unconscious before I even hit the cold pavement.
I woke up an hour later this time. I was in my quarters in my bed. I got up slowly, making sure I was no longer dizzy and my vision was fine. As I got up, I felt better than ever before. A message was waiting for me on my commlink. I opened up the message. It was from Ardus, telling me that the plan would commence as soon as I went to the courtyard. I left my quarters, going to the courtyard for the final part of the mission. As I went outside, the bright light burnt my eyes. The Siatian people applauded as I walked out onto the raised platform for this special occasion. Ardus was waiting for me. He walked to meet me, embracing me as we got to each other. We walked to the center of the platform, where two prisoners waited. Cameras whirred around us, taking pictures and recording. Across the universe, TVs tuned in for this momentous moment. Vaktovia was severely weakened, having been attacked by Arcadia and Siatia. Their leader was taken hostage, and their planet they were rebuilding on was devastated by the bombardment of the fleet under my command. Arcadia was severely weakened as well. However, not nearly as much as Vaktovia. News had buzzed around that Vaktovia and Arcadia were attempting to meet for peace talks. Emperor Castellian of Arcadia and General Hades of Vaktovia were discussing a way to get their respective leaders back, taking a momentary pause in their deadly war. However, by the time the negotiate peace, it would be too late. Ardus and I continued our walk to the two prisoners, both of which had a black bag over their head. I pulled both off as I walked past them. They were Vaktus and Tober. This next step in the plan would permanently cripple both empires. Ardus pulled out a golden revolver from the podium, handing it to me. I took it, loading it with the bullets made specially for this moment. They could tear through even the strongest bone. They expanded as they entered tissue, causing the maximum amount of tearing possible. Once it stops moving, it lets out a tiny explosion, killing them by burning them from the inside out. Ardus began to speak into the microphone on the podium. “People of Siatia, citizens of the Universe. It is time for a new order. A new power must rise to meet these two once great Empires. With the capture of their respective leaders, we have crippled both immensely, reducing them to ashes. As I speak, the Siatian Fleet is moving out, ready to assault Arcadia and permanently put it out of power. Vaktovia has already been destroyed, leaving it uninhabitable for generations. Frostaria, the planet that Vaktus was planning on rebuilding his once mighty empire, has been destroyed by General Vah’Aris, who is the gentleman standing behind me. I met the General when he had killed several of my soldiers, whom are trained extensively from birth, single handedly with a pistol. I offered him the position of General under one condition; that he helps would lead the Siatian Army to domination of the known universe. He has more than fulfilled that condition, bringing the death of most Vaktovian Generals, bringing the plans that captured both Emperor Tober Delargivic of Arcadia and Emperor Vaktus of Vaktovia. Now, on intergalactic television, we will show you what we do to power hungry fools who think the Universe is their’s to capture.” With the last words, he turned to look at me, then nodded, ever so slightly. I pointed the gun at Vaktus’ head first. “You don’t have to do this. You can still come back and join me in rebuilding my Empire,” he said, trying to convince me to stop this. “We can rule over the universe. Arcadia is weakened. It is ripe for the taking.” “No. It must be done.” I said, pulling the trigger. The shot rang out and the crowd grew silent, the cheering stopping immediately. The body feel sideways, blood dripping out of the side of his mouth as he muttered something to me. I stepped over Vaktus’ body, now void of life. As I moved, the crowd continued its cheering, now for me. I walked over to Tober, a single tear rolled down his cheek. He said nothing. “Not going to try to convince me not to kill you?” I said. “There is no point. Once someone as dedicated to cause as you are makes up their mind, it is impossible to change it. All I want to say is that I am proud of what I brought the Arcadian Empire to before your brutes took me here. Here, where my final resting place shall be. Now, put that bullet in my head and get it over with.” And so I did. I pulled the trigger, blood shot out the other side of his head. He stayed up for a second, blood gurgling in the back of his throat. Then he fell forwards, slamming his head on the ground, dead. The crowd cheered once more, now that the two most important leaders in the universe were dead. And by the hand of their own General. Ardus chimed in “And with that final shot, the universe is one step closer to peace. One step closer to a unified Empire. One step closer to the perfect life. The Siatian Fleet is now bombarding the planet of Arcadia, destroying it. With this final strike on a once mighty enemy, Siatia has successfully established itself as a force to be reckoned with. One will think twice before attempting to attack us, such as the pitiful Arcadian Gladiators, the so-called “elites” of Arcadia, who stood no chance against our average soldiers. Mass production of high end weapons and vehicles will begin immediately. Mass training of our citizens will begin immediately. New weapons will be developed. Weapons of Mass Destruction will be developed, then mass produced. We will not be afraid to use these weapons. Any force, large or small, shall be taken over if they do not pledge undying loyalty to the Siatian Empire. You have one year to surrender to us before our hand comes down on you. You have been warned.” He walked off the platform into the palace, signaling me to follow. I had just set in motion a beast that could not be stopped.
