I had a dream last night, it was about ROBLOX somehow, I play this game too much... But anyways, in my dream I was just simple walking around, and then I exited the game. I read in the blog [still in my dream] that they made a new update to universes, so I tried it out. This is what happened -
- Your character was able to run to any game without the "teleporting to place" thing.
That was the main thing that caught my attention. Many MMOs use a method where a player is in a small area. The area contains players, but you can't see any players that aren't in your area. It loads up when you walk to THEIR area. I guess it's basically a mega-game in which there are smaller and smaller servers in it. Say an MMO-like game appears on ROBLOX.
- The player builds an area.
- Makes it a place.
- Uses a "connect-to-game" feature which allows the player to link to it.
OR
- The player makes a game.
- Selects a zone [will have a mininum/maximum]
- That zone turns into an area.
Pros -
Players will be able to swiftly change servers without being interrupted.
Data will be transferred in an easier manner. [player stats, tools, etc.]
Cons -
ROBLOX servers haven't even reached a limit of over 50 players yet.

| So you mean like chunks from mine craft? Where it slowly loads everyone in chunks. So when you walk to a new area of the server it loads a new game or chunk. |

"The giant MMO Many developers have attempted to make massively multiplayer RPGs on ROBLOX, but have been limited in their ability to create an appropriately massive environment. With the tech to create an interconnected network of places, all joined together by a hub world, a massive MMO becomes something anyone can create – and still maintain good performance for players on a range of hardware.
Developers who create on ROBLOX will have so much flexibility that they’ll be able to create a game with the scale of World of Warcraft, and be able to launch it without having to build their own multiplayer network or put down significant cash for server hosting. As is the case right now, they’ll be able to launch their MMO via ROBLOX and we’ll auto-scale our cloud of game servers in conjunction with the game’s (hopefully explosive) growth. (A good example of our scaling capabilities is the popular Murder Mystery, which was a surprise success and stretched from just a few to more than 6,000 concurrent players overnight.)
By the same token, you could even make your own Minecraft. Your own Clash of Clans. Your own Skyrim. And you could give it your own twist before getting it in front of gamers who are hungry for big, deep game experiences."
apparently ROBLOX either read this idea, or made it on their own |

This made me think of an idea.. I dont know how, but here.
Blocks only load within sight of your roblox character, an option you can set. Sort of like mip-mapping, but the blocks that are out of range do not load, which would decrease the lag tremendously on games with a great amount of parts. Once a player walks closer, different blocks would load and well un-load, but I think that would just make up for the lag you lost. Its an idea though. |
