I've been screwing around with the new lighting on GT1 for a while now, but I'm not entirely satisfied with it yet. What I'm missing most noticeably is a way to make a part glow.
The lighting system as it is currently envisioned is inserting some objects into a part, and the part gives off light. WOOP!
However, the problem is that I want a part itself to glow, to look like it's actually giving off light.
Take for example streetlights. If you look up at them you see there is a brightly glowing lamp in them. This would look great in Roblox, however we have to simulate it with a workaround.
The current workaround is with a Billboard and an ImageLabel with a corona set on it, but this doesn't cut it.
A part that already has the rendering code for it is any part with a SelectionBox adornee, on which the bounding box edges glow equally bright at maximum brightness at whatever lighting adjustments you set. Instead of doing just the SelectionBox, apply the rendering setting to whatever part this object would be in, causing the part/mesh/whatever to glow at whatever BrickColor it is set to.
I suggest a good name for such a rendering mode would be GlowLight.
Thanks for considering my suggestion, please post your thoughts.

| ...no I can't. It's a rendering mode. Low-level stuff. The scripts need to be signed like that debug script Shedletsky put out because you're going too deep into the rendering aspect of the game. |

Any of you model builders in the EBR think it's a good idea?
Ohbtw @OP Here's an example of the current workaround.

"Instance.new("PointLight",Workspace.Part)"
Nope. That creates a light object, what I mean is a glow object that makes the part glow like it's giving off light, instead of actually giving it off. |

| The gametest1 version of dynamic lighting is probably the first working beta of dynamic lighting. This idea may have already been implemented into the developer's version of the feature, just not implemented into the public release due to major/minor bugs and whatnot. |

| I know, not the best descriptor. The system in it's current version gives off an "invisible" light that is used for rendering the light cone or sphere. What I mean is like a glowing bulb, where you can see the source of light as a spot of brightness. |
