To give a full length scouting report on your favorite MLS team.
The season is 3 weeks away, and teams for the most part, are done making offseason moves. Apart from cutting or signing rookies and trialists, rosters are just about set, and Rune will tell you what you need to know for the upcoming 2014 season.

FC DALLAS

IN:
M Ryan Hollingshead (12/9/13 - 2013 SuperDraft)
M Adam Moffat (12/13/13 - trade from Seattle)
M Brian Span (1/9/14 - weighted lottery)
M Hendry Thomas (2/12/14 - traded from Colorado)
F Andres Romero Escobar (2/14/14 - loan from Dynamo Kiev)

OUT:
M David Ferreira (11/25/13 - option declined)
M Ramon Nuñez (11/25/13 - option declined)
M Erick (11/25/13 - option declined)
M Jackson (12/9/13 - traded to Toronto)
M Victor Ulloa (12/9/13 - out of contract)
D Ugo Ihemelu (12/9/13 - option declined)
F Kenny Cooper (12/13/13 - traded to Seattle)

OUTLOOK 2014: FC Dallas has had a pretty mediocre offseason. Longtime coach Schellas Hyndman has stepped down, and Colorado Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja has left Commerce City for Frisco, TX. Dallas saw key players leave this season, in striker Kenny Cooper, midfielder Jackson, and captain and 2010 MLS MVP David Ferreira. FC Dallas has made a key midfield pickup in former Colorado stalworth Hendry Thomas, but that's all the certainty they've had in the offseason. New signing Andres Escobar, and rookies Brian Span, and Ryan Hollingshead will have to prove their worth. Raul Fernandez has had a quiet offseason, and without improvement in the defense in front of him that has slipped since the last part of 2013, I don't see them getting far with Fernandez's tendency to carelessly rush off his line. The forward line is drastically screaming for help. Dallas should be thanking their lucky stars the USA saved Mexico in qualifying, because if Blas Perez were headed to the World Cup this summer, Dallas would be competing for last place.

HOUSTON DYNAMO

IN:
D David Horst (12/17/13 - trade from Portland)
D A.J. Cochran (1/16/14 - SuperDraft)
M Tony Cascio (1/21/14 - loan from Colorado)

OUT:
F Brian Ching (11/25/13 - retired)
D Bobby Boswell (12/9/13 - out of contract)
F Calen Carr (12/9/13 - out of contract)
D Mike Chabala (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Alex Dixon (12/9/13 - option declined)
F Cam Weaver (12/9/13 - option declined)

OUTLOOK 2014: Exciting is not the word to describe this offseason for Dynamo supporters. Reinforcements in the defensive line and forward line were drastically needed. Houston saw the last of Bobby Boswell, who had his heavy contract declined, and picked up by DC United in the re-entry draft. Defensive help came in the form of former Portland Timbers stalworth David Horst, and the 16th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft out of Wisconsin, A.J. Cochran. Currently on trial are Austin Aztex midfielder Sito Seoane, defender Mike Chabala, forward draft pick Mark Sherrod, and brother of former player and USMNT midfielder Stuart Holden, defender Euan Holden. The key pickup this offseason however came in the form of the league's first ever inter-league loanee Tony Cascio. Cascio will provide versatility to play in the midfield and up top. Most needs were addressed in the offseason, the only two question are, will it be good enough. Dominic Kinnear always finds a way to make his squad compete. The last question is, can the Dynamo survive the World Cup, that will possibly see their two best players, captain Brad Davis, and Honduran international Boniek Garcia leave. If they can get through this period, and solidy their questionable defense this year, they should have no problem competing.

TORONTO FC

IN:
M Jackson (12/9/13 - trade from FC Dallas)
F Gilberto (12/13/13 - transfer from SC Internacional)
D Justin Morrow (12/17/13 - trade from San Jose)
F Jordan Hamilton (1/9/14 - Homegrown)
M Dwayne De Rosario (1/9/14 - Re-Entry Stage 2)
F Jermain Defoe (1/10/14 - transfer from Tottenham)
M Michael Bradley (1/13/14- transfer from AS Roma)
D Bradley Orr (1/24/14 - loan from Blackburn Rovers)
GK Júlio César (2/14/14 - loan from Queens Park Rangers)

OUT:
M Michael Thomas (11/29/13 - option declined)
M Darel Russell (11/29/13 - option declined)
F Robert Earnshaw (11/29/13 - option declined)
F Justin Braun (12/9/13 - out of contract)
F Danny Koevermans (12/9/13 - out of contract)
GK Stefan Frei (12/10/13 - trade to Seattle)
M Bobby Convey (12/13/13 - trade to New York)
D Richard Eckersley (1/27/14 - trade to New York)
D Jonas Elmer (2/7/14 - contract terminated)

OUTLOOK 2014: Exciting IS the way to describe this offseason for Toronto FC. With 17,000 season tickets sold, and talks of expanding BMO Field to up to 30,000 and adding cover over the stands, one can't help but feel that Toronto FC's supporters are being rewarded for withstanding the long years of pain. They've certainly addressed all offseason needs, and the only current weaknesses seem to remain in Homegrown center back Doneil Henry, and coach Ryan Nelsen. The question isn't whether TFC is good enough to compete, it's whether they can find the chemistry, and the drive to win in time. TFC's motto is "ONE CLUB" but is it really? We'll find out soon enough.

LA GALAXY

IN:
M Baggio Husidic (11/14/13 - free)
F Samuel (1/7/14 - loan from Fluminense)
F Rob Friend (1/13/14 - free transfer)
M Stefan Ishizaki (1/30/14 - free transfer)

OUT:
M Colin Clark (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Laurent Courtois (12/9/13 - option declined)
D Sean Franklin (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Michael Stephens (12/9/13 - out of contract)
M Pablo Mastroeni (12/10/13 - retired)
F Jose Villarreal (12/23/13 - loaned to Cruz Azul)
M Hector Jimenez (1/14/14 - traded to Columbus)
M Kyle Nakazawa (1/21/14 - retired)

OUTLOOK 2014: The jury is out on LA's offseason. 6'6 Canadian striker Rob Friend will join the attack along with Stefan Ishizaki, Sweden's best winger. They'll always do well, but will they do well enough to contend for another title? My opinion is no. They haven't done enough to contend. Landon Donovan, and Omar Gonzalez are going to be key losses for the World Cup this year. Draft pick Kyle Venter will cover for him. LA has lost promising young talent in Sean Fraklin, Jose Villarreal, and Hector Jimenez, which was part of what made them so good. The key to contending will be young sophomore homegrown Gyasi Zardes. He will need to have a strong year if the Galaxy want to make noise in a year when they aren't considered favorites.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

IN:
M Paolo DelPiccolo (11/25/13 - Waiver Draft)
GK Brad Knighton (12/11/13 - trade from Vancouver)
F Charlie Davies (1/9/14 - transfer from Randers)
M/F Steve Neumann (1/16/14) - SuperDraft
F Patrick Mullins (1/16/14 - SuperDraft)

OUT:
F Chad Barrett (11/22/13 - option declined)
M Ryan Guy (11/22/13 - option declined)
D Tyler Polak (11/22/13 - option declined)
GK Matt Reis (11/22/13 - option declined)
M Clyde Simms (11/22/13 - option declined)
M Juan Toja (11/22/13 - option declined)
D Bilal Duckett (11/22/13 - waived)
F Matt Horth (11/22/13 - waived)
M Gabe Latigue (11/22/13 - waived)
F Juan Agudelo (11/22/13 - out of contract)
GK Matt Reis (12/11/13 - retired)

OUTLOOK 2014: New England has a talented young who not only made the playoffs last year, but took Sporting Kansas City to the conference semi-finals, losing only in extra time. They had the 2nd best SuperDraft, grabbing two of the top rated forwards, Steve Neumann, and back-to-back Hermann Trophy Winner (equivalent of football's Heisman) Patrick Mullins. This should more or less make up for the loss of Juan Agudelo, in which Charlie Davies will see extended playing time. Longtime GK Matt Reis retired, but the goalkeeping position won't be a problem as newly acquired Brad Knighton and Bobby Shuttleworth compete for the spot.

NEW YORK RED BULLS

IN:
M Bobby Convey (12/13/13 - trade from Toronto)
D Armando (1/23/14 - free transfer)
D Richard Eckersley (1/27/14 - trade from Toronto)

OUT:
GK Kevin Hartman (11/21/13 - retired)
D David Carney (11/25/13 - option declined)
D Brandon Barklage (11/25/13 - option declined)
D Heath Pearce (11/27/13 - out of contract)
F Fabián Espíndola (12/9/13 - option declined)
D Markus Holgersson (1/2/14 - contract terminated)

OUTLOOK 2014: New York has had a fairly quiet offseason in which more was lost than gained. Bobby Convey is a notorious locker room cancer past his prime, and the questionable pickup of Richard Eckersley, who's making an awful lot of money for a fullback. Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill are just another year older. The Red Bulls will see a slight drop in production.

CHICAGO FIRE

IN:
D/M Lovel Palmer (12/13/13 - trade from Real Salt Lake)
F Harrison Shipp (1/9/14 - Homegrown)
GK Kyle Reynish (1/10/14 - free)
M Chris Ritter (1/13/14 - Homegrown)
D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado (1/15/14 - trade from Seattle)
D Patrick Ianni (1/15/14 - trade from Seattle)
F Giuseppe Gentile (1/24/14) - waiver draft
M Benji Joya (2/5/14 - weighted lottery)

OUT:
GK Paolo Tornaghi (11/25/13 - waived)
M Arévalo Ríos (11/25/13 - option declined)
D Michael Videira (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Corben Bone (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Joel Lindpere (12/9/13 - option declined)
F Maicon Santos (12/9/13 - option declined)
D Shaun Francis (12/9/13 - out of contract)
D Wells Thompson (12/9/13 - out of contract)
M Daniel Paladini (12/12/13 - traded to Columbus)
D Jalil Anibaba (1/15/14 - traded to Seattle)

OUTLOOK 2014: Jalil Anibaba to Seattle? Why? I'll answer. Head coach Frank Klopas has been fired, and San Jose's Frank Yallop is in charge. Yallop is notorious for playing a boring route 1 bash and dash thug game that makes the beautiful game, well... Not beautiful. Chicago's defense this year will be similar to Seattle's. Mostly because it is Seattle's. The highlight moves of the offseason remain to be the trade that sent Jalil Anibaba to Seattle, and Patrick Ianni and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado to Chicago. Ianni, Hurtado, Berry, and Soumare will compete for center back minutes this season to what should be a solid center mostly. Unfortunately, that was the only improvement of the season for the Fire, besides pickups of US Youth International Benji Joya from Santos Laguna, and homegrown signing from Notre Dame, Harry Shipp. Chicago had a productive offseason, but not productive enough to keep up with the rise of the East.

COLORADO RAPIDS

IN:
D/M Marc Burch (12/12/13 - Re-Entry Stage 1)
M Marvin Chávez (1/7/14 - trade from San Jose)
M Marlon Hairston (1/16/14 - SuperDraft)
D Grant Van De Casteele (1/16/14 - SuperDraft)
GK Joe Nasco (2/12/14 - free)
M Jared Watts (2/12/14 - free)

OUT:
D Diego Calderón (11/21/13 - loan expired)
M Jaime Castrillón (12/9/13 - option declined)
GK Steward Ceus (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Jamie Smith (12/9/13 - option declined)
M/D Anthony Wallace (12/9/13 - out of contract)
F Atiba Harris (1/7/14 - traded to San Jose)
M Jamie Smith (1/10/14 - retired)
M Tony Cascio (1/21/14 - loaned to Houston)
M Hendry Thomas (2/12/14 - traded to FC Dallas)

OUTLOOK 2014: More losses by far than gain for the Rapids in the offseason. They saw their head coach Oscar Pareja jump off ship at the chance to coach FC Dallas, and have still yet to name an official head coach. That's amateur hour as we're 3 weeks away from the start of the season. Midfield anchor Hendry Thomas has left along with his coach Pareja to FC Dallas. Tony Cascio, Jaime Castrillon, and Atiba Harris are gone from what was a bolsterous attacking side last year. The key to 2014 for the Rapids will be rookies Deshorn Brown, Shane O'Neill and rookie of the year Dillon Powers avoiding a sophomore slump.

CHICAGO FIRE

IN:
GK Stefan Frei (12/10/13 - trade from Toronto)
F Tristan Bowen (12/11/13 - trade from Chivas)
D Chad Marshall (12/12/13 - trade from Columbus)
F Kenny Cooper (12/13/13 - trade from FC Dallas)
F Corey Hertzog (12/18/13 - Re-Entry Stage 2)
M Aaron Kovar (1/9/14 - Homegrown)
F Sean Okoli (1/9/14 - Homegrown)
F Chad Barrett (1/9/14 - Re-Entry Stage 2)
D Jalil Anibaba (1/15/14 - trade from Chicago)
D Damion Lowe (1/16/14 - SuperDraft)
M Marco Pappa (1/31/14 - allocation)

OUT:
GK Michael Gspurning (12/9/13 - option declined)
D Marc Burch (12/9/13 - option declined)
M Blair Gavin (12/9/13 - option declined)
F Steve Zakuani (12/9/13 - out of contract)
M Mauro Rosales (12/11/13 - traded to Chivas USA)
M Adam Moffat (12/13/13 - traded to FC Dallas)
F Eddie Johnson (12/17/13 - traded to D.C. United)
D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado (1/15/14 - traded to Chicago)
D Patrick Ianni (1/15/14 - traded to Chicago)
F Fredy Montero (1/30/14 - transfer to Sporting CP)

OUTLOOK 2014: Some key needs were addressed by the Sounders this offseason. They have acquired Jalil Anibaba, Kenny Cooper, Chad Marshall, and former Chicago Fire MVP Marco Pappa. They have gotten rid of questionable goalkeeper Michael Gspurning and have signed former TFC netminder Stefan Frei. Him and Marcus Hahnemann will compete for the starting job. In an offseason that saw Fredy Montero's transfer to Portugal official, a surprise exit by Steve Zakuani, and an expected exit by Eddie Johnson to DC United, Seattle just might have performed in the art of addition by subtraction. The big question mark this offseason is Clint Dempsey. He has gone off on an offseason loan to Fulham, and has done nothing, going from starting, to being dropped from the bench, to not even featuring in the match day 18. Some question whether this was the right move instead of gelling with his teammates, something people think he failed to do in 2013. Some are even questioning if Dempsey deserves to go to the World Cup. He'll have to put up some good play in 2014 to prove he belongs on the squad.
