"I am the beginning of the end and the end of time and space. I am essential to creation and surround every place. What am I?"
My nana (Creationist): "God." Me (Evolutionist): "Air."
Just thought that was funny.
The actual answer is the letter 'E'. |

We both quickly answered. |

That confirms it. 'E' is the answer to everything.
All hail 'E'. |

My god... Petrikov knew all along. Why else would he have spammed 'e' over and over? |

So Petrikov is my grandfather?
Oh my gosh. |

Air is relative.
The Earth's atmosphere is about 77% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and the remaining 2% consists of gases such as Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Argon.
And anothersinii, if you are referring to Oxygen as 'air', it exists elsewhere in the Universe. Stars are fueled by nuclear fusion, Hydrogen atoms fuse to make Helium atoms. Later in the life of a star it heats up and starts fusing Helium atoms and creating heavier elements, depending on the star this might last for millions to billions of years. Once Iron and other heavy elements start to take hold, the star is doomed. Depending on the mass of the star it either goes supernova or it just blows away its outer layers. Among the elements blown away is Oxygen. For reference, look up the Orion and Crab nebulae, they both contain Oxygen.
Here is a nice and short video about this topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D05ej8u-gU |

It is most likely that somewhere in the vast reaches of space, there is are planets with suitable atmospheric conditions for human life. I mean the atmospheric composition does not have to be precisely the same as Earth's, all we would need for breathing would be one close enough to it. But if you take air in general, air does not have to be limited to the parameters of the Earth's atmosphere, for an alien out there (you don't need a mathematician to tell you that there most likely is extra-terrestrial life out there) air might be something different, perhaps a lot more Methane and a lot less Oxygen. The term 'air' is highly relative.
"Those worlds in space are as countless as all the grains of sand on all the beaches of the Earth" - Carl Sagan

| Finding an atmosphere with about 75% Nitrogen, about 20% oxygen and 5% other elements might not be that rare since there are billions of stars in your galaxy alone and there is at least 100 billion galaxies in the Observable Universe alone. Finding a planet with a similar atmospheric composition amongst those huge amounts of stars of which many could have planets is not an easy task but given the resources, abilities and patience, this search would turn up enough planets to fill a hard drive with. |
