So many new ideas/concepts are being realized, and technology is just shy of the gates of sci-fi movies(no, I'm not referring to "LONG LASTING SCENT TECHNOLOGY" -- I'm referring to mechanical technologies.) Japan has schools in which students use PDAs to communicate and navigate their way around the school, and South Korea is building an invisible tower, but what is going on in America? I didn't have enough money in my lunch account today to pay for lunch, so I tried to pay with my debit card, yet even though we are in 2014, NOT 1978, the school wouldn't take my electronic money -- they only accept cash. Debit cards have been around for 36 YEARS, and my American school system refuses to catch up to the future and take electronic forms of money. America is lagging behind in the technological race of the world.
Phones, laptops, and any form of electronic devices are BANNED from my school, and the school computers are used very rarely(despite these being excellent instruments of education.) The American schooling system hasn't been upgraded since Socrates invented it himself BEFORE YEAR 0(a little over 400 years before year 0 actually.) Other education systems have happily used technology to their advantage, but America seems to fear and despise it. Do you ever think America will overcome its fears and embrace technology, or will it continue to be stubborn and be absorbed into another, more advanced, country down the road? |

My school is finally turning into an e-school.
I mean, you have a point, for example, in foreign countries like Japan, South Korea, and such, most of their schools are running up-to-date operating systems like Windows 7/8, whilst my school is still upgrading most of our computers to Windows 7 from XP.
You see, in America, we have so much bureaucracy that it takes forever for things to get done here, thus also it is EXTREMELY expensive.
Only some people actually take the initiative to try and create some unique things, such as the owner of PayPal, who is working on the vaccum train.
I feel America is going down the drain for now. But during the year of 2017, we'll come back with lot's of new technology. America was smart and let other countries use up their oil. Now, America admits that we had more oil holes than known. By 2017, they state we'll be drilling as much oil. Oil = Money Money = Technology
But, our schools are still one of the best.
It's really competition, that's getting us new technology. Apple competing with different companies, has made their urge to make more cool products extreme.
Same with Computer and Gaming companies.
Technology these days is all about accessibility, where simplicity is the key these days. Like asking Siri, vs typing "What's the weather like?"
Other countries have so much competition, that it is neccesary to give their employees/students/whatever the best they can. |

| I despise using pencils and paper for most of my classes, and reading from a text book taking notes while a teacher lectures, and losing assignments in my jungle of a binder (yes I am horrible with physical organizing lol). It would be a whole lot more enjoyable using computers to do all that stuff (and a lot more efficient). I am glad we are at least using ActivBoards though. |

| I have card things for my lunch. I haven't a clue what they're called though. The machines are something like 'Transaction Revaluation System' - not sure though. |

@Piggy,
Systems might be bad. But we offer an outstanding education. |

As soon as schools can stop thinking about brand loyalty, and more about education, then we might get decent hardware and software on campus. What most schools fail to realize is:
Windows isn't the only desktop OS on the planet.
This iPad isn't the only tablet on the market.
HTML5 is a standard. |

@Vanilla
when you find enough energy to punch a hole into the next dimension,THEN we can build a TARDIS.
when I saw that "the science of doctor who" special, I knew more about the functions of the TARDIS than the scientists on that program.

Or you guys know nothing about how any of the things your talking about work and you just assume that America doesn't care.
All of you get out and come back when you actually know something on how stuff works.
Your logic:
>Other countries have better tech
>America doesn't care |

America needs to give up on power and focus on education
so then we'll be smarter when we focus on power later

| What's wrong with Chromebooks? You can install another linux operating system alongside ChromeOS if you detest it heavily. Aside from that, since the operating system is basically a browser, you don't have to worry about security issues. |

There're slow. Break easy.. The cover fell off of some guys just by opening it."Not kidding saw him do it" Useing the chromebooks is like trying to use lua when you have already mastered Java. |

| Ah, that's a decent argument. Though, the simile of going from Java to Lua doesn't resonate with me: I've done it. Besides, the usefulness of a language is entirely dependent on the scenario. People don't write everything in assembly for a reason. |
